Sports Illustrated has put online a terrific piece on an NFL agent, Josh Luchs, coming clean (only after leaving the profession, naturally) about paying collegiate players. Eight players have reportedly come clean, including former USC receiver R. Jay Soward; giving this agent some credibility. Notably, he also implicates Ryan Leaf.

People should know how the agent business really works, how widespread the inducements to players are and how players have their hands out. It isn't just the big, bad agents making them take money. People think the NFLPA is monitoring agents, but it is mostly powerless. People should also be aware of all that an agent does for his clients. Catering to their needs can be an all-consuming job.

Great read.

I think the agents should get there licenses taken away for giving these kids money. Even if they do have their hands out!

There should be a standard 1 year rookie contract based solely on your draft position. Players should not get agents until they are in the league and the NFLPA can help guide them.

That might seem stringent, but the type of system described in that article (which was hardly a surprise) has to go. It encourage borderline stalking of these young players.

The NFL and NCAA clearly have a relationship, the 2 should get together to get rid of this stuff

They don't care. No one really cares anymore. Everything is about the almighty dollar. There is barely a trace of morality left in the country as a whole.

Look at all of the UCLA and USC players listed. Friggin hilarious how much those LA schools cheated... and I'm sure the SEC/ACC country is no different right now.

Brian Kelly responds to the article:

"I don't think it shocks me," Kelly said. "I can't say that I've been living in this world of coaching with my head in the ground. You're concerned about it every day. That clearly is a hot-topic issue. That everybody is really discussing.

"When you really get down to it, you've got to be able to trust your players that they're making good decisions, because there's so much time for them to be away from you. Boy, it's hard to be standing around every corner and seeing who they're talking with. You got to hope you got the right kind of kids, and they are making good decisions."

The RKGs strike again...

Like the quote from BK. But I hate to say, but I think somewhere along the line, some ND players have probably taken money. And they probably will again.

Maybe not as many as some other programs, but I doubt any major program is completely clean in this.
