I can believe it, this particular rating system even says that it was designed to reward teams with tougher schedules and punish teams with weaker schedules.

If anyone can find another team that has had a tougher first 4 games then us please let me know.

Haha, I was wondering what was going on. I read the article and said, "This has nothing to do with what I posted." No big deal though. It happens.

I love Coach Kelly's demeanor on the sidelines..it's exactly what ND needs.

I also love the Football Outsiders!

Hate to contribute to a threadjack [the article WAS funny] but "my-oh-my" can this rating really be true? I've been a fan of our defense, but #5?? And that was before BC was figured in. And if these ratings are anywhere near true, USC will be the only good defense we'll face all year [Stanford sort of---but what that says about Oregon's offense is a little unthinkable].

To put those ratings in context: Illinois has the number 6 defense in all the land.

To Syria and Jaker: don't feel like disagreeing with you guys, as the season's young, but so far Illinois' defense has been pretty good. They are 29th best in allowing few points, they really hampered Ohio State for most of the game [only 17 points until a late TD], and other analysts seem to think they're good too---example: Trevor Matich, who I generally think makes pretty good sense, believes that their defense could well win the game vs Penn State tomorrow. Anyway, the only reason to mention this is to indicate that the technique being used here may not be ridiculous. I've noticed other things in it which make sense, like who actually stops the other team when you know it's a pass.

They've also played 2 D2 teams.

This is a very small matter but just in interest of accuracy: Illinois has played four games prior to today--Southern Illinois is D-II. Missouri, Northern Illinois [a MAC team which is often decent], and Ohio State--D-I teams. I mention this because I believe that MAC teams are a little better at giving big schools a tussle than they're given credit for, and infamously upset a Big Ten team once in a while. They at least deserve to be given credit for being D-I.
