I kid, I kid. But seriously... considering the work the lacrosse kids have been doing with Fields of Growth in Uganda and their success on the field last year they are truly a team to be proud of. Since I hung up my cleats a couple years ago to torn ligaments (I have the joints of a 70 year old) I've been working with our athletic department on PR/recruiting and writing freelance for the ESPN lacrosse affiliate Inside Lacrosse.

If you care at all about North America's Sport, check out my hastily-written and not very polished article (much harder to write when you have a day job that works you 12 hours a day...) that just ran this afternoon: Link

nicely done, lacrosse is an awesome sport and its gaining a lot of popularity. last year was so exciting.

lacrosse seems to be really popular in the midwest, one of my cousins who lives in ohio played in high school and he said its huge up there.

its catching on down south as well tho, if you ever need help spreading the word to recruits let me know i run a media buying agency, and i'd be glad to help anyway i can.

What part of Ohio? It's only big in the more affluent suburbs, if anywhere. Cincinnati and Columbus I would assume. I'm from Toledo, and it's only big in the two all-guys Catholic schools and a few of the wealthy public schools.

I'd much rather play lacrosse than baseball. Just a painfully boring sport of anticipation. Lacrosse is wonderful, and America's true national past time.

Of course, a real man throws shot put, like I did. :)

Bill Belichik gives ND lacrosse a shout out in a press conference:

"Coach [Kevin] Corrigan did a great job at Notre Dame," said Belichick, whose son Stephen is a junior defenseman for the Scarlet Knights. "When I saw my son’s team, Rutgers, beat them out there, they sure didn’t seem like a national championship contender at that point. But they just got better with each game, and they really played great down the stretch, and that’s when it counted. They got some great goaltending and big plays out of their midfield. So it was a terrific game, and it was a big win for Duke after they had been so close. So it was great for lacrosse."

More mainstream any day...

it's also really big up here in cleveland. it's huge at my high school and last year the freshman team had 90 kids on it

lacrosse seems interesting... but growing up in Southern California you get ZERO exposure to it ever... it is my understanding that it is much bigger in other areas of the country...

I can remember in American Pie when they all played LAX that seemed like the most unrealistic part of the movie to me... lacrosse in high school??? Who does that?! lol

I do try to watch when it is on though... seems cool

I should change the title now that we're #2 to women's soccer... but 5 Notre Dame players were taken in the Major League Lacrosse draft this evening. Senior Midfielder Zach Brenneman was taken #5 overall with fellow midfielder David Earl, defensemen Kevin Ridgway and Sam Barnes, and LSM Andrew Irving taken in subsequent rounds. The five players taken were second to only Syracuse who had 7 players drafted. Pretty crazy for a football school in Indiana :)

For those unfamiliar with the MLL, it is the main outdoor professional league for the sport and is starting to pick up steam. The league just announced expansion earlier in the day to add new teams in Charlotte, NC and Columbus, OH (lookin' at you IrishInColumbus... you've got no excuse not to get into the sport now).

Nothing to watch on your Sunday without football? Think again!

Notre Dame will be playing Team USA in Florida at 1:30 EST tomorrow. The game can be seen on ESPN3 or on ESPNU. At the moment, it appears the ESPNU will be airing the game at 10 PM EST (not sure what they have scheduled for the afternoon slot that conflicts).

Storylines: the Team USA goalie is ND graduate Scott Rodgers. ND will likely be without all-american midfielder Dave Earl for this game so it will be tough sledding on offense.

Gosh, I always wanted to try lacrosse, but growing up in a dwindling Indiana city does not really give you the chance. I love any sport where I can beat up on someone else. :)

6-0 at halftime. The talent on Team USA is ridiculous. So many incredible athletes.

With that being said, ND has had a lot of scoring chances but is just not shooting well. You can tell they've only had 10 practices. Hopefully we can hold them under 10 and put a couple goals on the board.

7-4 heading into the 4th. Amazing quarter by the Irish. Some of the young pups settled down... I wonder what Corrigan said to them at halftime. If they can hold Team USA south of 10 goals that will be incredible.

12-7 final. Very good second half after and epically bad shooting display in the first. A lot of work to be done but this could be the most talented ND team ever. Game airs 10 PM EST on ESPNU.
