Well even though I had us losing this game, it just seems like this is still a "Weis" coached team. I originally predicted a record of 8-4 MAYBE 7-5 (Which I got ripped for but oh well).

But now after seeing the same team lose the same close games I'm going to go with

Stanford = LOSS, Stanford will have at least 500 yards and score 40+
Boston College = LOSS.
Pitt = LOSS.
Western Michigan = WIN, BUT BARELY!
Navy = LOSS, Navy will have 600 yards rushing.
Tulsa = ???, I'm gonna say we get LUCKY and win SOMEHOW!
Utah= LOSS, Utah will have 500 yards of offense.
Army = ???, I'm gonna say we get lucky and eek this one out.
Usc = LOSS.

Final record = 4-8.

LET THE BASHING BEGIN!!!!

Oh, and welcome to Notre Dame Kelly! You will age at least 5 years per season as our coach, but at this rate you may not last very long just like the other 8 coaches we have had the past 10 years. Maybe that WAS a smart move to buy a home in a gated community. LOL

I think you can beat SC this year, your team is still very new in this offence by then is should be more in sync. And no, I don't mean it will be more boy band like.

If I could slap you NDOM I would.. Its GAME 3 of the Kelly era. NOT year 3. Everyone and their brother knew it would be tough going.

Like I said, in another post, kick back and enjoy the games this year and don't sweat it. Next year the hand wringing starts.

I believe Kelly is a very good coach and will get his people in place to win. But he also has to do a better job which he will.

I am so tired of all the bad attitudes. Did everyone think that we were going to fix this thing in one offseason. The reality is we are making progress on offense. Second, we are very average on D and that will not change no matter the coach.

Ummmm no were not. Were TERRIBLE on defense. Matter of fact we have no defense. I would'nt say giving up over 500 yards per game is an "average" defense. An average defense ranks around 50th to 60th, were ranked 104th. Thats not average my friend.

Jesus.....with fans like ours who needs enemies!

Well honestly NDOM is not too far off I think we beat Navy but aside from that he could be spot on. Is is really being a bad fan to be honest and realistic. Brian Kelly will be a success here. It will take a couple of years though.

What attitude should there be though, seriously and I appreciate your mentality. It is kind of old hat to witness terrible defense EVERY year, I mean some of the worst in the nation at ND. You are tired of bad attitudes I am tired of worrying if some random RB is going to break a tackle and go to the house on EVER SINGE hand off.

Im going to have to disagree to an extent. While these last two loses were games we could have and maybe should have won, we are still inexperianced at some crutial positions. Dayne is still a very young qb and will continue to make young qb mistakes in this complicated offense. Theo Riddick and TJ Jones are still very young and inexperianced wide recievers. TJ will learn to run his route past the third down marker and Theo will continue to grow into his new position.
This team is far to talented to go 4-8 even if this is a rebuilding year. We are three games deep into the season and most "fans" on that gameday thread last night were talking about how terrible Dayne Crist is, and how overrated Michael Floyd is, and how they "miss Jimmy." Im not talking about you NDOM but some of these so called "fans" need to relax. This is showing how far away from an elite program we really are. The fact is, no coach can come into a program and turn it around in 3 games after installing two new systems. It doesnt work like that.
Anyway, to match NDOM's predictions:
Stanford: 31-20 LOSS
Boston College: 28-17 WIN
Pittsburgh: 35-31 WIN
Western Michigan: 45-17 WIN
Navy: 24-21 WIN
Tulsa: 38-28 WIN
Utah: 28-24 LOSS
Army: 42-21 WIN
USC: 38-24 LOSS
I really think this offense will start to catch it's rythm and the defense will survive. 7-5 is a little under what I had originally thought for this year but with a bowl win, it will be a success.

ND may have the most bipolar fanbase I've ever seen. Last night was unfortunate, but one of the best college games in awhile. Sometimes you've got to smile, hand it to them, and buy the other coach a jock strap a few sizes up with built in shock absorbers.

I think between 5-7 and 7-5 is realistic.

Stanford, Pitt and Utah are likely losses. BC, Navy USC could go either way. Army, Tulsa and Western Mich should be wins. Could possibly move Pitt into either way column.

Really? We gave up 4 scores on 13 possessions? I mean seriously... if our safeties didn't blow so many big plays our defense would be very above average right now.

I can't tell if you're trolling or seriously believe this crap.

Predictions are kind of pointless. They are fun but who would have predicted that Dayne would miss half the Michigan game or that MSU would run a perfect fake field goal from 46 yds out? They have been the hard luck Irish so far this year but I think fortunes will change.

For some perspective Oklahoma gave up 4 scores in 11 possessions to Air Force... and they're ranked #7. Our safeties simply cannot shed their blocks well enough on running plays and constantly take bad angles. If we had better safeties our defense would be very B+.

we finally have a coach that makes out team competitive.with weis we lose by about 30 last night. kelly is dealing with players who havnt been developed over the last years, and has had only like 8 months to do it.
we have played 3 games....if youre going to jump off a cliff for being 1-2, then stop being a fan.its that simple.

You are dead on regarding the safeties but our d line is just as bad at times. Although now that we are in a 3-4 we really have more personnel issues. Our ends are not up to snuff and neither are our OLBS. Safeties are fail sauce, NT ILBS and CBS are ok to good. So if we upgraded at safety we still are just in c territory but it would be a start.

Let's not forget that Michigan State has a pretty good offense. They are well balanced and have plenty of weapons to move the ball.

If they can keep their stuff together they'll have a nice season.

Boston College is a team that Notre Dame needs to shut down. If we see the same ~450-500 yards given up against the Eagles, then the defense probably sucks.

After the initial shock wore off, 5 minutes after the game, I found myself actually just laughing out loud. It went from pure anger to just comedic relief...like how the hell does this keep happening?

But yeah, many of you need to chill a bit.
There's so many amazing coaches on this board I really wish you guys would have been there to make it all better.

Were the Detroit Lions of college football. Where great talent goes to die. And the team that always grabs defeat from the jaws of victory.

Last year Charlie biggest loss was by 7 to Stanford. I think you're going a little over board on that one.

I'm still remaining optimistic and saying 6-7 wins. I find it remarkably sad that 6 wins would be optimistic.

We'll find a way to win at least one of our next three, IMO. We could...

A) Outscore Stanford
B) Outscore Pittsburgh, who struggled with the Utah spread in week one
C) Stop a less potent Boston College offense

Then...

Blowout wins over Western Michigan and Army, a comfortable (maybe 10-14 point) win over Tulsa. A win over Navy. Maybe we'll have to outscore them, but oh well.

And then we'll have to split Utah/USC to make a bowl, IMO. The most likely one is USC, because their defense is poor.

No, I didn't think we were going to win the NC this year, but I have seen some coaching decisions that left me scratching my head for answers. Kelly may have a decent resume, but our 2 losses this year fall half on his shoulders, factually speaking.

Off the top of my head:

-Calling a flea flicker on your 2nd strings first game action in game 2? I mean, get the kids feet wet with a run or something. He looked like a deer in headlights, no wonder he threw an interception.

-Going for a TD to end the half against Michigan. Unexplainable with your 3rd string QB in. If they kick, we win that game.

-A 46 yrd FG attempt against a freshman kicker, and a fake, no matter how gutsy is not even on your radar? Unbelieveable. 2 of the guys watching the game with me said they might try it, and they were serious, yet Kelly doesn't consider this? 2 men back and the game is over, we win.

There are countless other decisions that confound me in all three games. So I'm not willing to just sit idly and think because Kelly had a good resume, it would translate here. It didn't for Weis. We may not have all the tools we need- so we need to make better decision on the field, and so far that is not happening. With the midline talent they have they have to rely on no coaching mistakes.

I see some things I like, but I also see some things that make me cringe. It not a stretch to say they could be 3-0 right now on playcalling alone. Granted, that's all things being equal.

Its been widely reported that the play was covered, the coverage was either knocked down or fell down.

The non-FG against Michigan.. And we win how? At this point you don't know if Crist is going to be cleared to play. You are down by 2 TDs with Michigan getting the ball back right after half. Haven't stopped them all game. IMO you really have no choice.

I'll give you the flea flicker, that was a head scratcher.

Weis was never a head coach, offensive genius but never a leader of men.

I'm young and have been watching football more frequently in the last couple of years so I wont say I'm an expert, but in my opinion, it's Kelly's first year... It takes time. Patience is virtue. Stop looking at the negatives of the game and look at what good they've so far. They're still finding their common ground.

I live in Michigan, but love Notre Dame. But look what we have for an NFL team here? They won two games last year, and zero the year before. Still a fan of them though.

Winning is nice but it's not everything. I would rather watch a team improve and take losses to learn from mistakes then to see them look the same every game and win win win. (ahem UofM I can't stand Denard's name anymore >:X) I would like to see them come back from the losses and improve by the end of the season. But ten to one, it's gonna take more than a season to see a huge difference overall with a new coach, for any sport.

What an amazing pack of bandwagon jumpers! I don't know what you whiners are but it isn't Notre Dame fans. You wait for the slightest sign of weakness and you resign. You are definitely not RKGs. We get more rational analysis from the Trojan Trollers than we do some of the supposed Notre Dame fans on this site.
Yeah, it was a tough loss. Hell yeah, I'm tired of this sort of thing! But, this ridiculous hysteria is utterly foolish.
