As my good friend BGIF reminded me, it is now sparty week. Lets focus on that.

I am anxious to see how our defense plays against a more traditional offense.

And i cant wait to see more Dayne Crist, does anyone else think he is going to leave ND with a better legacy than both Quinn and Clausen?

Legacy = winner

Short answer - YES!!!

Sparty is going DOWN! Man do I hate me some MSU! KLM gonna throw a 320lb Olineman on top of their QB to start the game. Next play Teo will Super Fly Snuka over the line to break their RB in half, forcing a fumble for Ian Williams to moon walk for SIX. WHOOO. BRING IT SPARTY!@!!!#@$%@$

If he can get a BCS win than yes. Actually if he can beat USC he probably will have a better legacy.

those two things arent out of the realm of possibility for this year.

as well as the future, especially if floyd and rudy return next year.

Crist has 2 years of eligibility after this year?

I saw somebody breaking down ND's chances of making the BCS on Bleacher Report this morning. I don't see it happening unless ND goes undefeated the rest of the season. They have too many teams to leap frog and there are only 4 available BCS slots. So if they lose another game I think they are out even if they beat SC. Who cares though I would just rather see a good bowl win.

It's crazy how Floyd seemed to be as good as gone after his Junior year but after these first two games his NFL stock has to have dropped. He's probably the one person who misses Weis.

He's gotta be blaming himself. He dropped 2-3 balls where he would've racked up at least 15 yards a piece late Saturday that would've kept the chains moving, and him possible getting a TD, instead we stalled, and lost. He really picked the wrong time to get a case of the dropsies.

You can tell he's putting a lot of pressure on himself. No play epitomized that more than the one where he reversed field...he's trying to put this team on his shoulders. Its great when it means he becomes a force run blocking, but sometimes all a receiver has to do is catch the ball and get down.

Floyd's stock has not dropped a bit... yes, he has dropped a few balls... but he has been money on downfield blocking also and his upside his still unsurpassed by anyone in cfb...

Only an injury or a lockout will keep Floyd from ballin in the NFL next year... Rudy may be in the same exact boat

Who knows? 10-2 could easily do it. I think if we were to have our 2nd loss come in one of our next 4 games, and end the year on a minimum of a 6 game winning streak (obviously including wins over USC and Utah) then we could find ourselves in the top 12. PAC-10, ACC, and Big East always seem destined for just 1 BCS spot. It could down to a BCS picking either a 10-2 ND or a 11-1 Iowa or 12-0 Boise/TCU. I'd probably like our chances there regardless of the outrage of us being picked ahead of other teams.

we have a once every four year tie in with many bowls... the gator i think is one of them... meaning we can trump the conference tie-ins once every four years if we qualify...

While it isn't worth much, I think ACamp is correct. I don't see the BCS this year, maybe on the cusp is the ceiling. As for Sparty, I think we have a very good chance to win. Our D should be able to perform against their offense.

There is no tie in to the Gator Bowl anymore. The once every 4 now applies to the Champs Sports Bowl. The contract between ND/Big East and the Gator Bowl ended last year.

I just remember last year people saying that if ND got to 7-5 they may get a Gator Bowl bid, because it was the last year they could go. But obviously we never got to that point.

Gator isn't unfortunately. Our bowl tie situation is pretty dire right now. We can go to the Champ Sports Bowl once every four years. Besides that, we literally have nothing. Its either BCS or a Hawaii Bowl-like game. (we go to whichever bowls didn't have one of their tie-in teams qualify...think the SEC or Big 12's #8 team.) We could go 9-3 in a couple years and go to a horrible bowl in other words.

Isn't ND eligible for that Yankee Bowl or whatever it is called? That would suck playing in Yankee Stadium in January.

1. This week's game against MSU will tell a lot about this team and their persoanlity. After last week's loss it will be easy to come out in a ho-hum manner and casually go through the motions, but if they are able to play hard ( with pride) and win against a team of less talent convincingly it will tell a lot about the future of this teams potential.

2.- Question, what is the Notre Dame Clause in the BCS? What are the outlines of wins and losses and automatic bowl bids?

Hopefully they are out of his system (drops). I can recall Tate having some bad drops as well during his junior year. It is amazing how much Tate meant to the offense last year. Floyd will come around though.

If i remmeber correctly if we are in the top 12 of BCS we are eligible for a BCS bid.

yeah basically... but I do believe it is top 11(i thought) and we are automatically in now... no longer jsut eligible...

but this shit seems to change every few years... maybe I heard wrong

Last time I checked, if we are in the Top 12 then we are eligible for a BCS Bowl Game (And who wouldn't take us?), and if we're in the Top 8 then we're automatically in.

That's my understanding as well.

As for other bowls, with the high A&E* quotient, I gotta think we'll get in a decent bowl game if we don't make the BCS.
