Mentioned on his twitter that Kelly was considering green jerseys for the Army game. I love the green jerseys but this is too soon.....way too soon. Shouldn't even be considered in his first year, IMO.

He said because of the Subway Alum following in the East he would consider it for something like the Army game.

Eh, I hope he reconsiders...just my feeling on it. Wait until we play a much more meaningful game, and do it in ND stadium (or at least a bowl game when we're huge dogs).

I think I am ok with them being utilized as an alternate jersey as opposed to what they once were. They have become affiliated with bad luck in the last 15 years, we haven't won in green, less the Army game in 2006.

We don't need the extra pressure that is affiliated with those jerseys when we play a top-3 caliber opponent if they are not worn at least once a season. Wearing them against Army in Yankee Stadium would be cool by me.

If that's how it's gonna be, then they should just put it into the rotation...it's no longer special.

They're no longer special when we haven't won in them in 10 or so tries.

I agree, if it was a matter of only wearing them less than 10 times ever, and we won those games-different story. I don't have a problem if they wear them vs Army this year. Much better than VT wearing all black and orange Nike Combat uniforms to "honor the miners", or FSU wearing them to "honor the Seminole Indians"

Just make it the neutral site jersey and call it a day. I know the older guys have a healthy dose of nostalgia with the green jerseys but I have had nothing but heartache.

I disagree...whether they won or lost in those jerseys really doesn't matter, imo. They served to pump up the team and the fans, that's about it...there was no guarantee of a win by wearing a certain jersey color. Last time I checked ND's all-time record, I didn't see an asterisk denoting games lost while wearing a green jersey.

I think it went downhill with CW....first time for USC at home, huge game. Great call. Next time, Army because the seniors wanted it? Eh, not such a great call. Last time, vs USC to honor the '77 team. Probably directed from above. Nice to honor the '77 team but really not necessary (except that the merchandising whizzes had a whole line of '77 gear you could buy). Weis flat out used it too many times and now it's become so commonplace that it means nothing any more....and even had we won wearing them the last "10 or so tries", I'm sure we'd still be seeing it this year and probably every season from now on. Merchandising demands it. Better would be to forget about it until we get in a big game again....ahh, but you can't sell a ton of replicas like that. Let's trot em out as often as we can.

Maybe you're right.....maybe there's no chance of them ever being special again....with the caveat that win/loss record means squat.

Much better than VT wearing all black and orange Nike Combat uniforms to "honor the miners", or FSU wearing them to "honor the Seminole Indians"
Except that at neither of those schools, are they even remotely a tradition.

The green jerseys were first used to differentiate between teams like Army and Iowa who's black uniforms were too much like Notre Dame's dark blue.

We lost our first game wearing green in 1921 to Iowa.

Then in 1927, Rockne started the second stringers in blue and brought in his starters in green. Count me as someone who would love to see this happen again...no matter how illegal it may be nowadays.

After that, ND wore green occassionally, but never as a psychological ploy like Rockne did in 1927. The only instance that I know of was in 1939's game against Iowa when the Irish switched at halftime and I believe that was as much to differentiate than to pump the team up.

In the 40's and 50's Notre Dame just wore green all the time. Same with the Devine years after the USC game in '77.

So we've worn green 8 times I believe since Faust. But the whole "wear green for a big game" thing is really just a modern invention.

That's why I'm for a total rebranding and wearing of green (at least at home) for a couple years. It's a good way to bring back the green without having people freak out about their use if its not against a top team.

Sadly, once I saw we kept the green Weis jersey with the minor changes, I knew we'd wear them at least once this year. The Army game seems to make sense.

Eh, I know Army might not be a top caliber opponent, but they do represent something special. Game in Yankee Stadium; historical opponent, many of whose players will be heading to war next year; it seems like a special enough occasion to me. Kind of like when the Hawks wore their throwbacks for the Winter Classic.

I love this move. Notre Dame shouldn't just wear the jerseys when they need a miracle--that is dumb. Wear them once a year, or less, for any game.

I like that idea... Blue at home, White on the road & Green at neutral sites.

I think we do use them vs army as the uniiforms are too close, plus they'll look good on the cover us Sports Illustrated.
