They better start throwing some of those wide outs on the other side!

Besides the eight on the two deep, (Blanton, Gray, Walls, Wood, and McCarthy, Motta, Smith, Slaughter) we have four others listed in on the roster, not including Barry Gallup, Jr., and Derek Roback, so that puts us about triple to the last man. (It is a shame when a program gets hit with such injury and tragedy as Michigan’s db has this past year. But if you remember, they didn’t have anyone who could cover our receivers at all last year. Since we have a coach who just may exploit a weakness until they stop ‘em, it may serve well to state the obvious: There is not one guy on that Michigan list that could crack the two deep at ND.)

If you listen to the Michigan fans you'd think that their defense is going to be lights out... Either way this is the wrong forum for such discussions.

Hey to Desmond Howard, this game is a toss-up and we're coming out the gate 2-4.. What does Desmond know.

That Dime package for Michigan will be intimidating. Watch out for that invisible inside CB - he comes out of nowhere.

UM has four "good" players on their defense.

Martin, Roh, Ezeh and Mouton.

None of those players are even close to the best at their position in the Big Ten.

None of those four players are tabbed as 1st or 2nd team All-Big Ten players accoring to Steele, with one (Martin) being a 3rd teamer and two (Mouton & Roh) as 4th teamers.

When has this ever happened at Michigan? We're used to playing against Wolverine squads with 4 or 5 All-Big Ten players, maybe two or three 1st team All-conference players, and possibly an All-American in there too.

Yeah maybe their front 7 will have a good season, but it's nothing like what we're used to seeing in Ann Arbor and it's mich more likely that they are average than anything close to dominant.

And with that secondary? Combined with another system change?

Worst Michigan defense ever.

lol It was funny when that dude was like "but they were 3-3 LAST YEAR!" and Desmond really had nothing for it.

It was funny to me when some of them were saying Stanford had a chance to win the Pac-10, but then didn't mention them while they were almost criticizing the first 6 games of the schedule.

Check out the secondary - 5 players for four positions.

College Player Database - Depth Chart

That chart is flat out wrong.

To start with Michigan went to a 3-3-5 last Spring to battle the spread and to compensate for their lack of defensive speed. I can't find any article saying they've got back to a 3-4.

The list of names under DBs is incomplete. We've discussed some of those players like Cullen Christian in the thread on UM's DB losses. I did a google search for UM depth chart and didn't find much up to date. Below is an article which originated at Bleacher Report so consider the source. That said, it's does describe the 3-3-5 (note the two hybrid LB/S) and lists the other bodies at CB. UM is hurting in the secondary but has considerably more than 5 bodies back there.

I put the 5 projected starters in BOLD.

... newcomer Thomas Gordon, who may appear to be lining up in one of those hybrid (LB/S) roles. Floyd Simmons, Kenny Demens, J.B Fitzgerald, Mike Williams and Josh Furman are all aspiring linebackers.

The remaining hybrid (LB/S) position will remain with Jordan Kovacs.

Despite his lack of pure backfield speed, Kovacs accounted for 75 tackles, second-best on the 2009 squad. Of course, many of those weren’t near the line of scrimmage.

With Woolfolk on the mend, J.T. Floyd inherits the cornerback slot while it looks like James Rogers starts on the other side. Freshman Cullen Christian is expected to see significant playing time with Courtney Avery, Teric Jones and Terrence Talbot providing the competition.

Redshirt freshman Cameron Gordon will man the FS position, with Marvin Robinson and Vladimir Emilien as backups.
