ND vs. USC #46

Oct. 15, 2005: Coach Charlie Weis promised Irish fans that his alma mater would be relevant again. And with 2:04 to play, the Irish led No. 1, defending two-time national champ USC, 31-28. Trojans QB Matt Leinart converted a fourth-and-9 at his own 26 with a 61-yard pass to Dwayne Jarrett. Three plays later, from the Notre Dame 1 with three seconds to play, Leinart spilled into the end zone. That Leinart got there with a push from behind by Reggie Bush only made it worse. None of Weis' five Irish teams flew that high again.

I was thinking about that Rutgers game where he pointed to the camera after making the kick this morning before I came here... lol... the Ole Miss one is hard to forget too...

now I couldn't access the top ones so I assume it's not out yet???

BC 93 will be high up there...
The U getting hosed on that PI call will be up there...
From a Bama persepctive letting us complete that pass out of our endzone in what? 73... that'll be up there...
The U turning the ball over three hundred times agaisnt Penn St...
tOSU losing to Michigan every year under Cooper...
Arizona St. losing a National Title on a last second drive in the Rose Bowl in 96ish
Nebraska's constant failures in bowl games, namely the two point fail against Miami, actually that may be number 1
The Rocket call back may be up there also

The Stanford/Cal game where the Stanford band charged the field will have to be up there too. I might say top 5.

Also, Boise St./OU Fiesta Bowl. Even though I loved watching the Sooners crumble, it was surely painful for some fans.

Def the U in the OSU championship game
Def the U turning the ball over against PSU in the fiesta bowl
Def The hail marry by LSU @ Kentucky where the Kentucky kid on the sideline had a meltdown (I think Skyler Green Caught that ball)
The Citrus bowl/Capitol One bowl where Iowa played either LSU or Florida (can't remember) and Iowa scored a 50 yard TD pass to a senior WR who caught like 4 balls his career.
Another one Oregon St. at LSU and the Oregon State kicker Alexis Serna missed 3 extra points and Oregon State lost by 1.

oh yeah, the serna game in the bayou... that will indeed be up there...

I thought about the bosie Ou game... my wife is a Sooner grad... she didn't hurt in that game... more happy for Boise... I think a ton of Sooner felt that way... they may have it up there for the fame of the game but it wasn't that heartbreaking

Michigan losing to App. St. (A D-II school in case some don't know) at home when ranked #5 has got to hurt. They will never live that down. There are so many though, there really is no telling how this list will shake out.

Actually losing to a very competitive and good Navy team is ten times worse than losing to App. St. whilst ranked number five in the country... haven't you heard that???

I'm calling it though, the fumblerooski game will be number 1

I have heard, although I try not to listen to the foolish banter of a fanbase in turmoil.

"Punt Bama Punt" 1972 Iron Bowl, 10-0 #2 ranked Bama up 16-0 with 10 minutes left in the game. Auburn marches down the field but only manages a meaningless FG. Next possession Bama forced to punt. BLOCKED! Auburn takes the loose ball into the end zone. Next possession, deja vu all over again. Bama can't move the ball. Punt blocked returned for TD. Same guy blocked both punts. Both loose balls returned for TDs by another same guy.

Bama didn't get to claim another NC. (but they thought they should have won it).

That ND/SC game in '05 was painful but even with the loss it sort of verified ND as being "back" in the national picture. Of course that ended up not really being the case but I just think there are a lot more painful games in ND history.

Yeah. Every ND loss is painful. I never went so ballistic in my life in public as I did at last year's Navy game. Thank God there were only 2 other people in the joint, unfortunately one of which was the owner. He was a shotgun blast short of kicking me out.

I was at my wife's aunt's funeral in Iowa during the Navy game. We went to the service at the church and then once we got out I grabbed her iPhone to check the score. I started to throw a fit, driving back around Council Bluffs having to wait for ESPN to update their site. It was 14-0 Navy and I made it back to her grandparent's, where we stayed to watch the rest of the game. Her whole family is either Iowa or Nebraska fans as they live right on the border, so I took an incredible amount of shit from them for that game. It was the first time I met a lot of them because we were both military, so we weren't afforded the opportunity to plan a big giant wedding with both families. We needed to get that done before they shipped one of us somewhere else! Great first impression on both sides!

How about Colorado vs Michigan 1994 at the big house. Cordel Stewart to Michael Westbrook I believe. I hope that makes the list lol. Didn't Colorado beat our brains in in the Fiesta bowl that year? Yuck

NEVER MENTION TO THE BUSH PUSH TO ME EVER A-FU*KING-GAIN!

*REALLY BAD MOOD NOW!!!*

Yep. Masochism. There's that other thread that talks about ND's greatest losses. I might as well bash my temple rather than glance at that thread again. And posters freegin gleefully add memories of losses to that thread. Sadists.

Well, id have to say that there are no bad losses, only better learning experiences, what we learned in 2005 was that sometimes fate intervenes, as we then learned in 2010, fate sometimes changes her mind...

I know this is going back a bit, but ND-SC 1964. To go from 2-7 in 1963 to moments from an undefeated national championship, only to have it stolen away. So close!

interesting top three... even being a big cfb and baseball history guy I was not aware of any of the top three before I read the list... seriously...

the most famous one is def. the failed two point try in the orange bowl... that was at eight or something...

How is that Nebraska game not higher up? I suppose because they ended up winning a bunch of championships.

If I remember correctly, 10-9. Rocket had a punt return called back on a phantom hold.
