Scout's ranked him as their #1 OLB, 5 Stars.

In October DePriest made an unofficial visit to Cinncinati. Another prospect Kelly doesn't have to introduce himself to.

And back to the recruit in question who is a linebacker and doesn't in fact throw the ball . . .

Anyone know about this kid's academics? Not worried about if he can get in necessarily more if he is a good student as that would help out ND's cause. I'm trying not to listen what the kid says about academics anymore, but what he has shown in the classroom. It seems like everyone has academics as important and then have UF, Miami, and Alabama as their top three.

No GPA on Rivals but he does have offers from Stanford and Duke so i assume his grades are correct. Great highlight video as well, one of my early favorites.

Like those offers - makes me think that me think that we have a pretty good shot here. Just got to win now - I love how Mike Fran always talks about how us winning would change the world for recreuiting. I can't wait to see if he's right.

I always look at a kid's GPA and test scores before I reach a conclusion about whether they're serious about comments about going to a school with strong academics. Better correlation between statement and reality when there is a history of academic achievement.

All of that aside, I would like to get this guy. The fact he camped at Michigan provides some evidence that the tOSU influence may not be all that strong.

The trip to ND definitely opened his eyes. The good news is that he paid his own dime to get all the way to ND; the bad news is that ND has a lot of catching up to do and a TON of competition with some powerhouse schools. ND got on his radar with the visit, and it was a much nicer campus and area than he thought it would be. However, like I said, ND has a lot of catching up to do, and he wasn't really thinking about ND until the visit. He'll decide late in the process, and with a great year and an official visit, ND at least stands a chance now...

The upside is he's from Ohio so not many teams can pull the weather negative recruiting card out. He lives in a cold area, so he is use to the weather. It'll be funny to see if teams try to use that pitch..

Trey DePriest has long been considered an OSU lean, but Saturday’s visit to South Bend may have given him something to think about.

Sunseri keeping Bama in contention for DePriest

By Erik Stinnett,
CrimsonConfidential.com - Sunseri keeping Bama in contention for DePriest

4/2

Springfield coach John Cupps told CrimsonConfidential.com Friday morning that LSU, Arizona, Nebraska and Wisconsin are some of the bigger names that have recently offered, pushing the total number of offers to well over 22.
"I think it's too late for all of those -- except maybe LSU," Cupps said. "Trey hasn't come out and named a favorite, but I think his two leaders right now are Alabama and Ohio <NOBR style="FONT-FAMILY: Verdana; COLOR: darkgreen; FONT-SIZE: 100%; FONT-WEIGHT: normal" id=itxt_nobr_2_0>State </NOBR>"
Why the Crimson Tide and Buckeyes?
"Obviously, Ohio State is in the picture because we live in Ohio, and it's state law to be an Ohio State fan if you live in Ohio," Cupps said, tongue-in-cheek. "No, really, Ohio State has done a good job recruiting him, and it's just an hour-and-a-half away."
Of course, Alabama is much farther away. But, as Cupps pointed out, Sal Sunseri, the assistant coach recruiting DePriest to Alabama, is the Tide's trump card.
"He's doing a great job with Trey," Cupps said. "I wouldn't say he's in constant contact with Trey, but he keeps in touch with him and us coaches on a regular basis."

Sorry for the delay.

It's not up anymore, but it says that we have used both evaluation periods with Trey. I know Diaco was there for at least one of them. Also, he plans to visit either this summer or for one of his OV's apparently. He has not named a top five, but his coach - who has the majority of the quotes in the article, said we would be in there - along with Alabama, OSU, and I forgot who else.

Sounds like we may still have a chance, as opposed to not having any chance - which is where I thought things stood.

This kid has a game against another top recruit Braxton Miller fairly close to where I live. Might have to go catch the game. Will have to go watch DePriest play at some point.

DePriest deciding between Alabama and Ohio State - ESPN

Under Armour All-American linebacker Trey DePriest (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield) has narrowed his long list of scholarship offers down to Alabama and Ohio State.

He wants to get a look at each school one more time before making his decision. The No. 33-ranked prospect in the 2011 class plans to visit Ohio State on Friday and Alabama sometime after that, probably in August.

Speculation has the Buckeyes making a late push for DePriest's services, but the Crimson Tide still hold the lead. DePriest seems likely to announce his college choice sometime in August after his Alabama visit.
