Well after 44 consecutive hours of meditation i have come up with a few more arguments. Here we go

1. Dion Louis will annihilate the irish defense

2. The spread offense cannot work against the teams on ND's schedule.

3. USC will continue its streak against ND for 5 more years

4. Navy will rout the Irish D

The last is a prediction for you guys to make.

5. When will BK bring out the green jerseys? (specific games not number of years)

Have at it Irish Fans!

1. Most likely Dion Lewis will annihilate any team he faces.

2. Untrue, Cincy ran the same spread offense and it worked on many teams, including an impressive comeback with Pitt.

3. Unlikely, USC is faltering at the moment and may have 3-4 years of mediocrity.

4. I see them winning but not a rout, Dobbs and the Navy offense will have 300+ rushing yards.

5. Never, they are bad luck!!!

1. Fact. He's damn good and one of the reasons I have us losing this game.

2. False. Purdue loses their entire secondary, Michigan has freshmen and sophomores across the board in theirs, and Stanford's sucks. Confidence boosters. I've said that about a thousand times in recent days.

3. False. It ends by 2012.

4. False. We return to the world of 2005 where we beat them by 20+.

5. NOT this year. I'm fairly certain Kelly would see it as a distraction and you know what Kelly thinks of distractions.

1. I dont know about annihilate. I think that the defense is going to be fairly good this year. I think Dion Lewis will have his yards, but I dont think any phase of our team will be getting annihilated by anyone.

2. False. Why would it not?

3. False. Ive got a gut feeling it ends this year.

4.False.

5. I think he will do it sooner then later.

1. Dion Lewis might be the single most overrated player in the country. He is NOT an elite back he simply benefits from playing incredibly weak rushing defenses and a pretty solid o-line. I guarantee he is a complete bust in the NFL and I expect us to smother him this year.

2. Well I never expected Michigan's spread to struggle so much... so maybe.

3. That is very possible but not probable.

4. Navy will be an utter blowout in favor of the Irish.

5. I don't think he will at any point this year because USC is away and he doesn't seem like the kind of guy that likes gimmicks to begin with.

You meditated on stuff like Dion Lewis and Navy versus Irish for 44 consecutive hours?

I just came to my logical conclusions about both those subjects in the time it took me to type out this post. 'bout 45 consecutive seconds

Honestly, I want ND to show up at Purdue wearing the white away jerseys with green numbers. It would be a great statement and a (hopefully) easy way to end the discussion/speculation.

Kelly will win games and the spread or the Notre Dame version with fine running backs and these receivers will win. Lewis is great and a handfull for anyone-point taken. Southern cal will get their full of Brian Kelly over the next 5 years. They will beat Navy. Fasten your seat belts boys this will be a good ride. Its not the jerseys its the players in those jerseys.

Dion Lewis is a great player, but he can and must be stopped.
Make the rest of the team beat you, not their star!
This is where coaching and planning comes in.

I've watched him play numerous games. Anyone with good speed who can get to the second level can make slow safeties look like idiots. And there is no doubt he runs hard for his size. I'm not saying he is a bad player. I'm saying he is overrated. There is a pretty big difference between the two.

I think he will probably have another good year in the weakest BCS conference but I guarantee you he is not the elite back most people think he is. You see overrated players prosper all the time in the right system against inferior competition (i.e. Hawaii quarterbacks, Graham Harrell, Kevin Smith and oodles of running backs over the years) and I truly think Dion Lewis falls into that category.

When the playing field is leveled in the NFL he will be an absolute flop. And should Pitt ever have to play an elite college defense it will be the same deal. As such, I really think a 3-4 with the linebackers we have will handle Pitt with ease this year. But that is just my personal opinion and time will tell if it is correct.

Lewis is a ridiculously amazing running back. I don't see how a true freshman running back who ran for 1,800 yards, 17 TD's, with a healthy 5.5 YPC could be considered overrated.

Maybe if everyone had him as a 1st team All-American and top 3 Heisman canidate, we could say he's being hyped just a little too much. But he's still flying under the radar as far as I'm concerned. He's getting some All-American love and he's a darkhorse Heisman contender for some people, but he deserves all that as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah maybe if he plays in the SEC he doesn't get the numbers he did, but maybe he'd be playing with better teammates too? Whether or not he succeeds in the NFL doesn't mean anything to him being overrated now. The kid's 5'8" if he's lucky, it's likely he'll struggle in the NFL, but that doesn't take away from his elite status in college.

Plus, he got to play against a really good North Carolina defense in their bowl game last year and torched them for 159 and a score. This dude is legit. Notre Dame may not see a better player all year.

I appreciate all of those points except for the part I've bolded. Maybe it is just the people I know and my proximity to Pittsburgh (although I'm not really THAT close to the Steel City) but most talk I've heard has him as a Top 5 Heisman candidate and on the level of Mark Ingram (i.e. 1A and 1B in terms of top RBs this year).

And one reason I think he is overrated is that his backup, Ray Graham, had an even better YPC than Lewis did. That tells me you could stick a lot of 'good' backs in the Pitt system and their stats would make them look 'great.' Again, the kid is quick and I love how hard he runs through the hole for his size. But we will have to agree to disagree that he is so good that "ND may not see a better player all year."

In a couple months we will know who was right :)

As much as this hurts but it is a good reminder that he is a huge liability and should be game planned around stopping him because he did run for 150 yards.

Fast foward to 2:05 and watch the safety, a combination of great running and poor tackling.

Ray Graham only carried the ball sparingly, ending up with 60-something carries. He should have a high yards per carry average. It's much harder to maintain that average when you're carrying the load for your team week in and week out.

Maybe Graham is good too, but his slightly higher YPC average still doesn't mean Lewis is overrated.

Does'nt matter how bad he's doing this year. He's still gonna carve up our pathetic defense. I will bet you anything he rushes for at least 120 or more.

I never said he couldn't do some damage against us and I won't take that bet. All I said was that he was overrated and that his amazing stats last year were a product of playing crappy defenses with a dominant OL blocking for him.

And I feel vindicated.
