they are on the verge of getting cliff lee from the mariners. said they are offering montero and two other players. it is on yankees.com and ny post, si.com and espn has also reported it. said no agreement has been made but the talks has intensified on thursday. he his schedule to pitch tonight.

All I have to say is 'don't hate the player, hate the game.' Until MLB does something to stop it, the Yankees are playing by the rules. I think baseball should have some kind of cap, but they don't so...

That being said, I heard on sports radio show(I think it was Van Pelt Show) that there was a list of the top 10 richest owners in baseball and old George didn't even crack that top 10?! So there are owners out there that have the $ and just won't spend the $$$ to win. The Yankees do spend the money, to put the best possible product on the field for their fans. I'm not going to complain!

as far as the Yanks and a salary cap... they spend how much money and they have won exactly one title this decade... WOW... my opinion is if they or any other team wants to spend that much let them... it has been PROVEN that other teams can beat them with very little spending in comparrison and for all this talk about no parody in baseball... since 1988 there have been 15 different champions and that includes the run where the Yanks did in fact win three straight at the end of the 90's (again, while NOT spending like drunken sailors) where as the NFL has seen 12 during that time line... while having one extra season (1994)

and in the last ten years... the NFL has seen 7 different teams win the title whereas MLB has seen eight different teams... to me the salary cap doesn't do what is supposed to do... stop danastys from poping up and taking the game over... while what it does do is often force teams who have drafted well and built a GREAT championship caliber team from within to trade a significant number that talent because of the cap...

Had this same argument in class the other day. Baseball has had alot of teams pop up thanks to some really good management and GM's. The problem with the Yankess was they were spending all that money on power hitters and lost in the playoffs against quality pitching, defense, and speed. Salary cap's don't improve parody, what kills it are the owners who treat teams commodity instead of trying to win. I remeber when Fox owned the Dodgers and it was infuriating seeing how the team was treated. A solid front office will create winners withous spending 300 million a year. Look at the Twins and Rays
