Camping at ND after visiting Mississippi and LSU. At 6-1 his height will be a concern to some. Height was never a problem to Doug Flutie. Don't know if Ely can scramble like Flutie. He's listed at 4.57 but as a Pro QB not a Dual QB. He's put on 25 pounds of muscle in the past year.

He's got about half yards and TDs as Worley does and Scout and ESPN rank Ely about twice as low as they do Worley. Rivals however really likes this kid making him their #5 Pro QB with 4 Stars and a 5.8 Rating. Worley by comparison is Unranked Pro QB, 3 Stars with a 5.5 Rating. And Worley's 3 inchs taller. Ely's 19-0 as a starter versus Worley's 9-6 this season. However the Plant Program is the better of the two teams.

Ely has been out "on the tour" making visits and competing in QB camps. He was the top QB at the EA Sports Elite 11 QB Camp held in Tuscaloosa. He finished second in the Nike Camp at Gainsville behind Jeff Driskel.

Florida didn't offer and they won't. They already have a verbal from Rivals #1 rated QB Jeff Driskel who Ely finished second to at that Nike Camp in Gainsville.

i undestand that but if they did it seems it wouldn't matter. wasn't saying they was going to offer or not.

He is a winner. Kelly loves winners, so I wouldn't be surprised if he gets the offer.

3 ints I think that says a lot about him, took care of the ball and gave his team a chance to win. I think in the Blue Gold Game there were a total of 4 ints and Jimmy had 4 all last year. I think we're going to miss that. I Ely gets an offer he looks like something that can really develop.

Looks great on film. Makes all the plays and moves well enough to make people respect his feet. My only concern is if he has the size to stand up to the beating a college QB takes. If the staff thinks he is big enough after seeing him the last few days, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get an offer soon.

Lets get him. 20 td's 3 pick's run 4.5-4. forty we can work with that.

yea. lets offer every hs QB on powerhouse high school teams b/c they have great stats and good forty times because that always equal good football talent....

Worley is legit, and fits the system so i can deal with that. As far as this kid goes, if kelly wants him, thats for kelly to decide. Personally, i think we should wait till next year b/c they have some big time talent for QBs in the 2012 class. We took 3 legit QB only players last year, with two more that could convert.... we arent hurting at this position fellas. We can hold out for big fish next year if need be.

I agree on taking Worley but I've never liked the idea of missing at a position, even though we'll have a few QB's red shirt next year (or so I think)

ELY to BAMA!! thats a high caliber program to say the least. If we dont land Crow or Mauk do we look back at this and regret not offering or pushing for Ely??

High three-star quarterback Phillip Ely (Tampa, Fla./Plant) committed to the Crimson Tide Wednesday during a 5 P.M. press conference. Rated as the nation's No. 15 player at his position, Ely selected Alabama over LSU, Clemson, Wake Forest and Ole Miss. Rutgers, South Florida, Vanderbilt, Iowa State, Michigan State, Tennessee, Cincinnati and Arizona State are among his other offers. He completed 127 of 219 attempts (58 percent) for 1,860 yards, 20 touchdowns and three interceptions last season.

Since I last update his profile:

ESPN up 21 slots, and 4 points on the Grade.

Look for Scout and ESPN to bump him a star and a bunch of slots in their next ranking.

I understand that and I have seen where we are the leader for Crow. Does he look to be the best in that pack from what you've seen so far?
I was just worried about not pulling a qb this year after Bubba flipped on us. I like what we've done on defense and I'm eager to see how we do with the three kids you mentioned next year.

the staff allegedly told zeke pike he was the most impressive at a summer camp (a camp that crow attended)...

for that reason, i think the ND staff is very high on pike. with that said, i also believe they like matty mauk and gunner kiehl. from what i have read and with some speculation on my part as well, i do not believe crow will get a committable offer from kelly unless we strike out on those said three players listed above (pike, kiehl, mauk)...

pike has the most impressive offer sheet out of any 2012 QB and picked up offers from bama, florida, tennessee, and auburn within a weeks time.

all signs pointing to him being the #1 rated QB in 2012.

a lot can happen though between now and february 2012, we will probably have a better idea as to which QB prospect we are eye balling after this fall....
