Usain Bolt

RECAP
Bolt 23 years old, 6-5, 207, 9.58 for 100m

Councell 17 years old, 6-5, 220, 11.54 for 100m

It should be intuitively obvious, even to the most casual observer, that in 6 years Councell will lop 2 seconds off his 100m time if he loses 13 pounds.

This made me giggle.

Visited G Tech. He came away very impressed. ND & G Tech are leaders with UNC & South Carolina following.

He was ready to commit last week, but his dad recommended he take his time and think about it. Maybe once the rush of the GT visit wears he will start to come back towards ND

Per ISD:

Councell Commits To Notre Dame

BOOYAH another solid defensive pickup. FINALLY - ND may have a defense

On Sunday night, Ben Councell (Asheville, N.C./A.C. Reynolds) pulled the trigger, giving his verbal commitment to Notre Dame.

“He did commit yesterday to Notre Dame,” A.C. Reynolds head coach Shane Laws wrote to ISD in a text.

“I think the biggest thing is he’s 6-5, but he runs well," Laws told ISD in the past. Councell will play the DOG backer position in the Irish defense. "He’s a legit 4.4 guy, and at 6-5 he can cover a lot of ground, and when he gets there he’s bringing it too. On top of that, he’s very intelligent.

“He was a big part (of our state championship). Blocked a field goal at the end of the game to pretty much seal the win for us. It was a big deal for us. He made a lot of big plays in the game, and made a lot of big plays all year long. You don’t play in state championship game without players like Ben Councell.”

Welcome Aboard Ben!!!

I am cautiously optimistic about the job BK is doing recruiting so far. I don't remember CW having a dozen kids committed by July and we all felt he did a decent job recruiting. The thing I really like about what I have seen film-wise on these kids as they seem to be more instinctive football players. Obviously, we all love to see players capable of making "big" plays, but we are losing games due to the fact, we have not been making the normal plays consistently. Our defense regularly turns 2 yard carries into 6-7 yard gains with poor tackling, poor pursuit angles or being out of position looking for the highlight play. I see Kelly's recruits making "big" plays after they completed their assignment, not gambling that they guessed right.

This was Weis's "second" class or his first full recruiting cycle. Kelly is stacking up nicely. Don't forget Reuland & Frazier transferred, and Aldridge never came close to the hype. Actually, now that I look at this class, I'm not impressed with the ranking system and/or Weis's development of talent

And Jones, Jackson, Prince, and Carufel.

Webb,Schmidt, and Yeatman as well. Throw in the fact that a lot of those guys that made it all 4 years didn't make huge impacts and that class looks pretty weak.

It gives us alot of options as far as defensive alignments go. He could drop back into the secondary as we have a safety blitz and so many more options woohoo

He's gotta be playing with his hand off the ground. OLB projection with that speed.

Not sure what the new terminology really means but he is being projected as the DOG LB. I'm guessing that is Brian Smith's spot, since Flemming is on the other side playing the hybrid CAT position, which is where Burton is projected.

I'm not 100% sure but i believe that DOG means that he would have contain alot in this defense. not that he would never blitz, but even when blitzing he would have contain responsibilities vs. action(run, boot, etc) to his side of the field. again, thats just my guess based on a limited knowledge of those two terms.

We need big time defensive ends to solidify the defense for the future.

If Councell is going to play LB, will Utopo and Shembo be molded into DE's?

I like the athleticism of all these guys, but I'd like to have a player or two learn DE right away. We've got Filer and Fleming as hybrid's right now anyway.
