Councell has spoken with WVU coaches and was told he should be expecting an offer shortly, but as of now, he is still waiting on it. It’s tough to imagine what the Mountaineers are waiting for. Just by looking at Councell’s measurables, you can’t help but come away impressed.

A 6-foot-5, 220-pound outside linebacker and rushing defensive end who has been clocked at 4.39 in the 40-yard dash, though he likes to round it up to an even 4.40, likely out of humility. That’s fast for any position of the field, much less a tall, rangy defender of Councell’s stature.

At the college level, he knows he will probably find himself bulking up and lining up with a hand in the ground and tackle in his face. Still, he feels his athleticism and speed leave him capable of playing both OLB and DE in a system that sends an extra rusher off the end, as Jeff Casteel has made a habit of doing in recent years with the 3-3-5.

Ultimately, his decision will come down to how comfortable he feels off the field, and not necessarily on it, in his college town.

“If I should get hurt or something during college and I can’t play football, would I fit in at that school? So I need to get a feel for the school and see if I’m comfortable there,” he says.

Defensive end / outside linebacker Ben Councell (Asheville, N.C./A.C. Reynolds) has been offered by Notre Dame, according to ESPN affiliate Web site IrishSportsDaily.com. Auburn, Duke, Maryland, North Carolina State and East Carolina have also offered the 6-foot-4, 220-pounder. Clemson, South Carolina and Georgia Tech are showing interest. Councell, who plans to decide this summer, said, "Once you get to college, most of the programs will have great facilities. Mainly, I'll be looking for the feel and playing time. I don't want to wait till senior year to start. I just need to evaluate all my opportunities."
He registered 124 tackles including 13 tackles for loss during his junior campaign.

6'5", 220 with a 4.39 40. Probably more like a 4.8, but nonetheless a freak of nature.

I agree with your skepticism. None of the services list him with a 40 time. The only place I found a time is in the wvillustrated.com article quoted previously. I imagine they'll be several articles on him Sunday, maybe one of them will shed some light on his footspeed.

OK. That makes more sense. A 4.4 hand held 40 definitely does not translate into an 11.54 100 meter. A 17 110 HH is more like a 14 year old's P.R.

Shit. I ran an 11.3 in Payless shoes my sophomore year, and I didn't run no 4.39 40. Based on that article, I would guess he is a better quarter miler or half miler.

I would figure a guy that big would be gassed by the end of 100M. The guys who run at the Olympics are usually around 5'6 to 5'10

Well, he wants to play early and often... BK reaches deep into his depth chart historically... we have spots RIGHT NOW for his position...

he wants a place he has a "feel for" and he and his father LOVE Notre Dame... this is a perfect fit for Councell and a complete no-brianer... so of course he'll comitt to Florida.

It should be intuitively obvious, even to the most casual observer, that in 6 years Councell will lop 2 seconds off his 100m time if he loses 13 pounds.

LMFAO BGIF. I think Councell is going to be our next commit. His video shows his speed and lateral movement. He could use some more size, but that will come. Another big athlete with a motor. I'll take a 7 DE/LB hybrid guys this class if we could

Councell is a very impressive, and IMO, underrated player. I think he could be a star OLB for us.

Agreed. We will not have all hybrids, but looks like the goal is around 4 DE and 3 OLBS with quicks quicks quicks. Need more athletes.
