My roommate in college was an alumni at this school and I hit him up about this kid. Says he is a stud that does everything for his team. Plays TE on offense and is split out half the time, and plays DE/LB on defense..

sounds like Carlo Calabrese coming out of HS

Rodgers narrows it to eight likely suitors

Roger Brown ESPN
June 8

Tight end Richard Rodgers (Shrewsbury, Mass./St. John's) said he'll likely attend college at one of the eight schools that have already offered him a scholarship: California, Oregon, Notre Dame, Boston College, Maryland, Minnesota, Massachusetts and Virginia.
The process that leads to his final decision may not be easy, however. Rodgers grew up rooting for Notre Dame; his father, Richard, attended California (he handled the ball twice on the famous five-lateral play that beat Stanford); and his cousin, Jarius Byrd, played for Oregon before Buffalo selected him in the 2009 NFL draft. There's also the lure of local schools like BC and Massachusetts to consider.
"I keep in touch with those schools on a daily basis," Rodgers said. "I may not make a decision until into the next football season. Whenever I'm comfortable."

Not so sure ND's gonna buy a 2.185 GPA. Paddy Mullen had a 2.2 and was told by ND to improve those grades.

GPA's don't move too much.

Paddy Mullen and some others in the past with low GPAs or test scores have focused on their work and demonstated to ND's Admission's satisfaction that they had the ability and determination to handle the workload. They were granted admission to ND.

The dedicated jocks like Carson Palmer and David Terrell refused to improve grades/scores to meet ND Admissions requirements after receiving an conditional offer requiring improvent. Palmer went to Southern Cal and Terrell UM. Some are willing to do the work and some are not.

If those numbers are correct this young man has some improvement in the classroom to demonstrate. Who knows, he may have already started improving his grades with the current semester.

Recruiting Week in Review

Joe Bradshaw ISD

7/5

Rodgers met with Kelly, Diaco, Elston and Cooks during his visit. They told him they prefer him at OLB.

“We sat down with Coach Kelly. He let me know that they were trying to rebuild the program and bring it back to greatness. He said they’re going to bring it back and no matter what position I play, I can help the team; just as long as I’m at Notre Dame.”

...

“As long as I’m on the team and as long as I can contribute wherever I’m at, that’s fine with me. I prefer offense, but if I can play defense and play at a high level, that’s fine with me.”

...

“It was great. It’s just a very historic place. I’ve always liked them. I didn’t really know what to expect. The facilities, the coaches, the players, it was a great experience. There is a lot of people that care about the community and what the kids on the team do for the community and what they do in the class, that’s the most important thing.”

“Everyone is still in it. We’re going to take everything into account, location, a college town, big city, it’s going to be a tough decision.”

Top 5 BC CAL UMD ND ORE. He's like to make a decision soon.

Rodgers reflects on second trip to Cal

Mike Farrell
8/8

Rodgers visited Cal for a second time this summer. He's not sure if he'll take Officials or what his plan is at this point. He reports no leader among his Top 5: BC, CAL UMD, ND, and ORE

2nd trip to Cal, trying not to read to much into it.

Only 26 more days till we can start putting W's on the schedule and fully open the eyes of recruits and all the haters.

Go Irish!

Had heard some chatter through people up here that say he's leaning towards Cal because of his father - but hoping he changes up his mind. Would like to see him come to ND.

A few wins would change just about anybody's mind - just need some program stability (or at least that's what it says when I play NCAA football).

Rogers to Cal
SHREWSBURY — Like father, like son. St. John's High three-sport star Richard Rodgers will play football for the University of California next year, the talented wide receiver told the Telegram & Gazette today. Rodgers' father, Holy Cross defensive coordinator Richard Rodgers, also played football for the Golden Bears.
It's Cal for Rodgers!

Frank, thanks for "the scoop".

Cal isn't a surprise considering dad's legacy and mom's locale, - and the published GPA.

Any news of this kid elsewhere? Is he still solid Cal?

Looks to still be solid - haven't seen/heard anything over the airwaves or in the papers regarding a change. His family went to Cal - he'll probably be at Cal.

This probably makes no sense what-so-ever, but B&G still has Rogers' status as "Hot." Thats why I asked. And I can guess either someone there is lazy with their HTML, or they know something we don't...
