from Rivals, I don't have access to it though:

Jarrod West thought he'd be on the verge of enrolling at Stanford. Instead, he's heading to prep school and plans to restart his recruitment with Notre Dame a potential player for the receiver from Bethlehem, Pa.

Yeah that far I got, just wondering if anyone (BGIF cough, cough) could elaborate.

I believe he will be attending a juco to try and improve his grades, but ND has not typically gone after players in his situation.

In the article he said it was a low SAT score. From what it sounds like he is going to take the year at a prep school because he still has Stanford as his leader, but he is reaching out to other schools as well. Most of them are high academic schools like Vandy, ND and WF.

so I guess the just of the article was, he had a lower than expected SAT couldn't get into Stanford, is attending a prep school, but is opening his recruiting back up and would like Notre Dame to consider him?

And getting into ND would be easy for him?!?

Stanford has stricter restrictions than ND. They are a fantastic institution, and as much as I love ND, their academics are not on the same level as Stanford.

TerryTate has the substance. West didn't get Stanford's Admissions approval. I suspect he also has problems with the NCAA (don't know that for fact) as if his GPA/Test Score met the NCAA minimums he could get into almost any college. As he's going to a prep school he apparently is trying to raise his GPA which allows him to have a lower Test Score. It could also be to better prepare him for a retake of the test to improve that score.

ND, Stanford, Vanderbilt and a couple of other schools used to be the only Div 1A programs that required 16 core courses. The NCAA used to require only 12 core courses. Over the past few years the NCAA raised it first to 14 and then to 16 for everybody. He may have a core course problem. If so that would rule out everybody in Div 1.

Stanford used to require an SAT score of 1000 and it was pretty rigid as I recall. ND routinely took prospects in the 900's and I know of a few that were in the 800's. Harbaught started offering some prospects that ND didn't for academic reasons. Nobody knew if Stanford Admissions would sign off. Apparently not based on West.

I guessing West was close enough that a bump up in his Senior course work GPA would get him over the hump with whatever his test score was. He apparently didn't get what was needs. I recall some Bootleg articles in the past fretting about him meeting academic requirements.

I don't understand any interest by ND. I know UC offered him so Kelly and company were familiar with him but as he was the 128th ranked WR, UC would be interested. Considering recent recruits like Tai-ler Jones, and prospects like DaVaris Daniels why would Kelly be interested in the 128th WR?

Compare the ranking of UC OLs and the 2011 OLs Kelly has offered and gotten verbals from at ND in the past two months.

NAH Man your "Guesses are uneducated" He had lower than expected SAT's his grades are fine as the ar 3.8 w/ honors courses. AND NO he isn't having an issues w/ the NCAA idiot....Way to go and try to discredit a kid who has done nothing but work hard. as for being 128th ranked who cares if you got the tools 6'3" 190 40 inch vertical 4.56 he will be a great asset to ND.

If you are trying to promote an athlete, that is probably not the best way to do it.

Sorry for the late post, but I completely missed this thread. How is Stanford "ahead" of ND and has "stricter restrictions?" Seems to me to be too many variables.

I'll take Stanford over many others in most anything, even lived near there for a bit, but I'll take ND over Stanford.

Is it based on endowment? Harvard lost 10 billion last year.

yes I know, and that is my fault. I just don't like when people throw in blind accusations with out even knowing then facts. I know everyone is entilted to an opion, however why whould you put "I suspect he is in trouble w/ the NCAA" then follow up w/ I don't know for sure. This kid has never been in trouble in school or with the law so to put that in peoples mind it just isn't right. It did get me upset and my emotions took over. Jarrod is very football smart and has the body his 40 time can be faster but his hand and route running are good.

The poster you got personal with simply posted, and has always posted articles from around the country, with no opinion and never an accusation.

I hope Jarrod can have a great career wherever he goes. If he is that good, I hope he finds a home at ND.

BGIF is the oracle when it comes to football recruiting news. I give him the benefit of the doubt in these situations. Probably not a good move to poke the bear on your first post.

Some of the stuff that I have read BGIF post has seemed, how do I put it, "out there", BUT after the dust has settled and things are made known, BGIF has been on target, if not a little conservative, on his accusations. I will, and I think most in here will as well, take BGIF's word on recruits.

From what I have seen, the "bear" posts are not "his word". That should be clear to you guys. The bear simply collects and shares free information on a one-stop shopping thread.

I am insulted that the "bigedense" would not refer to me as the one "out there." I brought you Christmas gifts. Led Santa's sleigh with my red nose. It was cold, but I skipped Cleveland.

Neutered my deer friend. You are in a leauge of your own. You are the one that we all depend on when we need something. Whether it is a scoop, a laugh, or that little red rider b b gun you finally brought me for Christmas this year. (I had only been asking for it for 30 years! But thanks for finally getting through to the big guy that I was old enough to not shoot my eye out.) By the way, I am getting used to driving with one eye now.

yeah some of our schools are better, some of theirs are... really ND and Stanford are mirrors of each other... two ELITE ELITE schools that are perhaps THE TWO schools who have been the best throughout the years at having legit athletic programs without compromising academic standards...

Academic rankings almost always have the two schools very close from year to year and really trying to hold either over the other may be a stretch... really the only real striking difference between the two schools may be their obvious political alignments... and even there you see many hard leaners from either school work with or for the other University (Connie Rice comes to mind)...

really out of all of our rivals you have to have respect for Navy and Stanford... Michigan would be on that list too on a lower degree... doesn't matter if you want to admit it Michigan haters... UM is a fine school (but obviously lower on the scale tan us or Stanford)

Stanford is a damn fine school. Notre Dame is as well.
