As things stand now-no. There is not much to gain by joining, all things considered. That could change if they are given an ultimatum by the Big East or the Big East is raided by other conferences and destroyed.

If the Big Ten and subsequent realignment destroy the Big East, Notre Dame will join the Big Ten. That is the only way I see Notre Dame joining any conference.

Unfortunately, I think ND's hand is going to be played for them by the Big East and/or the pressure of missing out on a 16 team Big 10. I think BK had it right when he said that he likes to be able to play around the country and play in big name places such as Yankee Stadium, but I just don't think that will be enough pull to stop this from happening. If the Big 10 can't pull off this move, it will be another "super" conference that pulls ND their way.

Without an incentive or a major shift in college athletics, there is no need to join up. IF Swarbrick senses complete conference re-alignment then maybe.

no way, no how. i cannot get on board with this no matter how cool it would be to beat ohio state every other year.

Independence is what made ND who we are today, how can we sell out and join a conference that didnt want us back when we were peons, but want us now after we beat our own trail of tradition and championships through hard work by ourselves!!

Big 10 didnt want us back in the day, now that we are the biggest brand in maybe all of sport they want to cash in on our years of blood and sweat from the likes of Rockne, Montana, Holtz, Leahy, Tim Brown, Paul Hornung, Ara Parseghian, the list goes on.

Sure it may be a scary thought going it alone with all of this realignment, possible super conferences etc. I am sure it wasn't easy to go it alone back in 1910 either but here we stand, the greatest college football program ever.

Stand and fight to stay the greatest, or join the big 10, blend in with the rest, and lose our identity.

The choice is simple.

I voted NO, but ...

I think ND should join the "super conference" .
Things could potentially get ugly for scheduling football games, and the Big 10 has a solid academic track record as well.

Being in the Big 10 would also help the basketball team, because the Big 10 has a couple good teams (MSU and PU), but is not near as deep as the Big East's strength of schedule... Getting 2nd or 3rd is very plausible in the Big 10.

I really hope this happens, but I still want out of conference games against USC and Navy... and National TV broadcast. If this deal can work out I want it to become a reality.

Plus, I wouldn't have to listen to ESPN analyst cry about ND's strength of schedule.

Here's to hoping for the best situation to occur!

ND will never, and I mean EVaahhhh!! Join a conference...not gonna happen.

...the day ND joins a conference, is the day the NCAA will forfeit Reggie Bush-USC games....

I don't want ND to join a conference, but I would love to beat State Penn on a yearly basis. Paterno would be pissed to have to give up the likes of Eastern Illinois, Kent St., Youngstown St., Akron, Temple, and Toledo to play ND, Nebraska, and / or Missouri every year.
