Named to MaxPreps Junior All-American First Team, where he is described as "one of the biggest recruits to come out of New Mexico in years". NM produces some occasional nuggets: Landry Jones (QB, Okla), Alan Branch (Mich), Aaron Lewis (Texas), Bobby Newcombe (QB, Nebraska), and Tommy McDonald (Okla).

Hagerty, Westerman and Hanratty (all Lemming's All-Americans) would be a very nice combination - three of his five AAs. Texas has been following Hagerty hard.

ND is said to have offered. Hagerty is supposed to be at the March 20th Junior Day.

Oh, and Brian Urlacher was pretty good for the Lobos. Not sure what he has done since. :)

Texas adds pair of juniors to 2011 recruiting class

Randy Riggs, American-Statesman

2/28

Highly sought offensive line prospect Matt Hegarty of Aztec, N.M., said he received an offer from Texas Saturday but wants to take trips to Notre Dame and the University of California. The Longhorns, now with five offensive line pledges, might hold one more slot for either Hegarty or Christian Westerman of Chandler, Ariz., an earlier visitor.
Hegarty said he "talked about the time frame a little bit," with Texas coaches.
"I'm going to decide things pretty quick," said Hegarty . " Everything was pretty great. The staff was real classy about the way they handled things."

Hegarty's also picked up offers from CAL and Nebraska,

Good for Matt. I hope he doesn't rush into anything until he's seen it all and knows where he wants to go.

Is that on Lemming's tweet? Does anyone have his tweeter account/address by the way?

Don't know about it being on Lemming's tweets. Possibly, it came a from a bunch of comments Bob Wieneke reported in SBT as Lemming comments on Jr. Day. Wieneke didn't mention if he got it from tweets or whatever.

With offers from many of the top programs in the country, Hegarty will not trim his list until the summer, after he visits several schools in the south in June. But what he told Scout has me worried about whether he'll seriously consider the Irish or not. He said his focus in choosing a college was going to be education first, but as he got more offers and did so well in competitions, he realized he had to reassess his focus and put more of it on football. Now, it could be nothing, but then again we haven't exactly set the world on fire these past 3 years. We'll see...

Didn't he say that he nearly committed on junior day? I'm not concerned, we'll make the first cut.

The Springman offer could be an indication that the coaching staff is not real confident in their chances with Hegarty.

Good point, however scout is saying we offered Springman as a DE. Like FL said, I'm probably reading too much into his education comments. Then gain FL, Cody Riggs almost committed at the spring game last year too LOL...

ND visited him on Monday per ISD:

Notre Dame is one of the schools recruiting ESPN 150 Watch List offensive tackle and future U.S. Army All-American Matt Hegarty (Aztec, N.M./Aztec) the hardest, and on Monday, he was one of the first prospects the Irish staff went to go see to start the spring evaluation period.

Unfortunately, the 6-foot-5, 265-pound Hegarty wasn’t there. The blue-chipper had travel issues returning from his brother’s wedding over the weekend.

“Coach (Ed) Warinner actually stopped by (the school on Monday), but unfortunately I was stuck out of town. Didn’t get to see him, but coach (Kerry) Cooks is coming next week, and coach Warinner might come.

“I thought that was pretty meaningful for him to stop by on the first day, but again it was a bummer I couldn’t be there.”

Hegarty holds scholarship offers the likes of Notre Dame, USC, Oklahoma, Texas, LSU, Nebraska, California, Arizona, Arizona State and Northwestern. He says he hasn’t narrowed down his list, and also said he could visit Notre Dame again this summer.

“Nothing is definite,” Hegarty stated. He visited the Irish campus for the first time for the program’s March 20th junior day. “We’ll just have to see.”

Hegarty Might have Committed!

Hegarty Might have Committed!

According to both Rivals and Scout, it looks like Matt Hegarty, stud OL from New Mexico, has committed to ND. I'll keep this thread open until we hear more, and then I'll move it to his own thread.

This would be absolutely huge!!!
