Kelly has another five months to get his team ready to go.

No, he doesn't. Spring practices are incredibly limited. After that, he can't coach them until the fall. That's why he was saying that they have to lay the foundation NOW, that they have to start the process NOW.

In the spring of 1964 I wonder what those future all americans thought of Ara? That would be a good post by some of those guys if they ever read our stuff here. This guy wins football games and I bet they dont stink come next Sept. The survivors will be big players.

“Today was an evaluation. We want to see guys who want to hit. Everybody says they’ll hit you, but then you put them in a drill and you find out who can hit. There’s no lying out there. It’s one-on-one … You’ve got to strike somebody. I believe we have a lot of players who can helps us in special teams and make us a very good special teams unit.”

i really liked this quote, not so much about the special teams but about hey who is going to actually go out there and bring it?

i am getting more enthused about kelly by the day.

Its all in the plan to let everyone know you will be judged only on performance, the message has been sent. I look for this group of guys to respond and I look for this coach to win games. I am relaxed about Notre Dame football for the first time in years, they will win football games under this coach to the standard that Notre Dame expects. This style of coaching is exactly what is needed when a total overhaul has to be done.

I am impressed. Particularly the "attention to detail" part of his statement. Most succesful teams are known for doing the little things right. This is fundamentals to coaching.

I agree with most, this was needed at ND. A little shake-up. I wasn't in favor of letting Charlie go-I thought if he stayed maybe that would keep Clausen and Tate. But its starting to come out now how 'non-intense' things were and now am buying into the fact that this was the right move. Who would have thought that with Charlie, he seemed like a no non-sense type of guy.

I was a bit skeptical of BK before he was hired. But I like what I am hearing out of him. More excited to see him in person the weekend after this!

Sorry but I just wanted to make a point. The faithful at Notre Dame don't know they just hired the next 100 game winner and a national championship or two.

Wow! Charlie could have used your insights about 4 years ago. I believe in Kelly but how many years are you giving him to win 100 games and a NC?

Back to earth,....... we should see some type winning trend in a couple if not three years with this transition.

yea that whole toughness thing is very important! something charlie wouldnt know anything about seeing as he never really played the game! Coach Kelly although not a div.1 all star at least played the game in college and knows first hand what it takes to be successfull! thats not something that can be overlooked imo!

He's been tough on discipline too:

I was in class Monday while a football player was talking about how tough Coach Kelly was being on them about the lack of leadership on the team. Apparently, he's instituting a zero-tolerance alcohol policy.

Timely.

That would make ND only the second team to my knowledge with such a policy. It's required of all BYU students not just the football team.

According to an earlier press conference, the players aren't allowed to trash talk, either.

good, that is one of the most important things to me, i am sick and tired of everyone having something to say every time they do something. this was my major issue with golden tate.

the alcohol thing should kind of be expected with the events that have taken place in the last few weeks. some will say its going a little too far, i say good.

You guys know I was a Charlie guy, but this coach has the right stuff, Weis will be proud and happy for the team and university. Kelly seems to be saying detail and practice habits are how you will play. I look for a few guys to leave but the ones who stay will win football games. A lot of football games

.

I believe BK meant no trash talking and fighting in practice with each other. Trash talking the opponent during a game is part of the game itself. Golden Tate never got penalized for trash talking and show-boatin.

I remember Golden Tate saying something about before one of the games an opponent ran by Jimmy and stomped on his turf toe. Golden then went on to say, "So when Jimmy and I burned the other teams defense, of course we are gunna let them hear about it."

Was on a Michigan board (they're hilarious folk, sometimes) and they were speculating how much of a struggle our offense would have this year in reaction to Kelly's statement. Some of the answers were truly hilarious.

Some compared our offense going into this year to Michigan's going into 2008. When another Michigan fan posted something like, "Are you serious? They're loaded and we had jack." he got hammered.

Another went on to say that (get this) Dayne Crist and Michael Floyd are system players and would struggle in the spread. This drew laughter (or as close as you can get via Internet) from many people.

Some speculated that Michigan will have a huge advantage offensively when the two teams meet on September 11th. This was almost wholely agreed upon.

Michigan fans. They're lovably moronic, sometimes, but you gotta hate 'em, anyway.

I feel the same way. I don't know how old you are, but do you remember back in the early 90's when the trend was to take your helmet off and parade around everytime you did something? I absolutely HATED that! I was so happy when the NCAA made taking off your helmet a penalty.

i am old enough to remember that and remember it annoying me as well :)

its really not the way to play the game, back years ago if you talked too much you got your head handed to you. now with all of the penalties and video replays there isnt justice like their used to be.

you dont talk to em you show em on the next play.

imagine those guys playing back 40 years ago. they would have shut up real quick.

less talk more action, today its really more talk less action. and its a shame. but i guess thats how our society is as a whole.

im 34 btw, sometimes i think i am older than my age :)
