Greatest NCAA basketball coach in the country right now? In my opinion I would say yes, but would love to hear others thoughts.

Duke has been virtually non-existent for a better part of the 2000's.

I have to agree...never been a fan of Duke (UNLV!) and neither for Coach K. But coach K has a good team every single year. He has had to adapt to the 'one and done' era and still puts out a good team every year. The team is in the top20 (usually top10), or flirting with the top10-20 every year for 25years! Izzo is defintely one of the best coaches, but I believe coach K and the program he has built is better.

yeah... that's the thing with sports where the playoff COMPLETELY overshadows the reg. season... which SHOULD be much more important than some silly three week crap shoot....
I'd like to see the best reg. season records over this span... Coach K obviously deserves some mention too

maybe, maybe not...but this year coach K has added another acc regular season championship, acc tourney championship, another sweet 16, another final 4. he does it year after year after year; whether he is loaded with nba caliber talent or not.
I'm going out on a limb and saying Duke is going to take it, I think they will win it by dominating the boards and their outside shooting. Butler can win, because they are not as 'cinderella' as ppl keep saying, they are a good solid team. I think Butler will need to shoot lights out to beat Mich. St and Duke. I believe Mich St leads the big 10 in rebounding, which will force Butler to shoot a high percentage in order to win. Duke is rebounding the ball really good now, and has a better offense than Mich St. I think Butler can squaek by Mich St with good shooting, but might have trouble keeping up with Duke's offense.
that being said...where the hell is UCLA???

He doesn't exactly do it year after year. This year was the first time they've been past the sweet 16 since 2004. And don't start on the lack of talent thing with duke he recruits many high school all americans. Duke has not done a good job developing the talent lately

the sweet 16 is a measure of success for MOST college programs. How many sweet 16's has coach K been to since 1980? I think Izzo has 5 or 6 final 4's total...at one time coach K went to 5 straight final 4's. As said previous, he has had to adjust to the 'one and done' era which has brought back closer the pack, but he has a great incoming class next year and should be in a better spot then where they are now. I'll take coach K over Izzo, or Williams. those coaches are good, dont get me wrong, but coach K has proven, sustained success over a long period time.

kentucky had young players...the same players thought they won the game(louisville?) when they actually just tied the game up. Wall and Cousins were very 'green' I dont see those same type of mental mistakes at Duke, not saying it doesnt happen, but I just dont seem to see it.
in the end, I dont care if duke wins or loses, I dont like Duke. But I can acknowledge they have the premiere college basketball program in the country.
More steady and consistant than UNC

how many national titles did he win at Kansas? Who did he lose to in 1991? btw I remember that game, and all he had was Paul Pierce, who couldnt knock off Duke by himself.(who had just beat the undefeated UNLV team)

He has 2 since coming to unc and k has 0. Roy has out recruited him and out coached him. Head to head Roy has been owning k.

I hope you also realize that Coach K has coached at Duke 15 years longer than Izzo has been at MSU. Plus Izzo is 8 years younger than Coach K.

I know that's the point I've been trying to make
I guess a 2001 national championship and a 2004 final four doesn't meet the requirement for "much of anything". I'm not trying to hijack this thread, Izzo is a phenomenal coach. But, c'mon people, if you wanna say (as Fitz did) that they're down relative to the standards they set in the 90's, that's fine. But to say that a program that won a title in the 2000's didn't do anything in that decade is simply foolish.
Also, since Roy came to UNC, he has the split the series with K 7-7, unless I missed a game; not exactly getting "straight pooped on".
