I guess a 2001 national championship and a 2004 final four doesn't meet the requirement for "much of anything". I'm not trying to hijack this thread, Izzo is a phenomenal coach. But, c'mon people, if you wanna say (as Fitz did) that they're down relative to the standards they set in the 90's, that's fine. But to say that a program that won a title in the 2000's didn't do anything in that decade is simply foolish.

Also, since Roy came to UNC, he has the split the series with K 7-7, unless I missed a game; not exactly getting "straight pooped on".

Roy had 2 national championships that's the most telling stat. And if u know anything about the Harrison barnes recruitment that pretty much sums up unc vs duke since Roy has gotten to unc

I hope you also realize that Coach K has coached at Duke 15 years longer than Izzo has been at MSU. Plus Izzo is 8 years younger than Coach K.

its part of what im saying...i'll take consistant success, sustained over a long period of time over anything. i think its funny how some has said that Duke has slipped (as they are in the final 4, and staring down the barrel at another NC) Williams didnt win an NC till he got to UNC, an already storied program when he got there. As soon as he left Kansas, Bill Self did the exact thing he couldn't do at Kansas, win the NC. Matter of fact, Roy Williams was bookedended by 2 coaches (larry brown, bill self) that won an NC at Kansas, but he couldnt do it while there. Coach K made Duke basketball. The last thing i want to do is defend Duke or coach K, because im not a fan of either.

I'm stand here with my fingers in my ears and saying, "coach K, coach K, coach K....."

You mean the same unc team that was 8-20 one year and in the nit the next the 2 previuos years Roy got to unc? Unc was down when he took over.

I'm not taking anything away from Roy, he's a great coach. I think most people familiar with the situation would say that that team had awesome potential and the main thing required for improvement was addition by subtraction. The removal of coach Doh was the only thing that was gonna bring UNC back. Yes, I know Doh won a national coach of the year award, but that team hated and was obviously (to me, anyway) quitting on him.

P.S. I'm gonna stop cluttering up Izzo's thread with the Duke vs UNC talk. Sorry to the thread starter.

TOm Izzo is a spectacular coach, he's losing for the 2nd straight year in the NC though. He has a chance if it's vs WVU but even that is a tough match, wVU has been vicious as of late, but I doubt they beat Duke who has been equally vicious if not more. So I got MSU vs Duke, as much as I hate to say it Duke will be getting another one.

Hey wasnt it me calling for Tom to ND a few weeks ago? Ha,it will never happen-like I said though one can dream! I know Tom a bit (tremendously loyal to his roots-UP of mich), and think the world of him as a coach-I have tried to model his ways in my first years running a program-with great success. The thing about Tom though is how great of a guy he really is. There is no show with him. If anyone saw the Gumbell piece on real sports HBO, that is Tom Izzo to a T. Any time we down to State to watch practice hes over checking in before, saying hello-then opens up his offices after for film. If he has time to chat he does, if not he says to his grad assistants or secretaries "take care of these guys-anything they need." And Ive seen him do it with coaches he doesnt even know. Just a great guy. Im really not much of a State fan, but I will be cheering my ass off for Tom and 'them' tonight. Good things come to good guys who do things the right way, lets hope we got someone similar in Kelly. Lets also hope Tom hears his calling to turn ND into a national powerhouse on the hardwood and comes!

I'm still trying to figure out how this went from the Tom izzo thread to kiss coach k's ass thread

Because it wasnt a Izzo thread, even though the title may suggest. The OP stated how he thought Izzo was the best BB coach, then asked us to comment. My comment questioned how could the OP forget Coach K.
I really don't see many people kissing his rear end, they just feel - based on stats- that Coach K. is a better coach (even if most can't stand him). I honestly believe that Duke is the ND of college basketball, you hate them or love them, but you still feel strongly about them - one way or the other.

Pray
