He doesn't have the skills to thrive in ANY type of offense. Seems like a great guy though.

You got them reversed....

Rees - maybe
Hendrix - No (and he is waffling on his committment)

Where are you getting that Hendrix is waffling? ISD has a premium article out today about Kelly contacting Hendrix. I don't have access, but the intro leads me to believe that Hendrix is pumped about playing in Kelly's offense at ND.

Can someone with access to ISD shed some light?

If read a few article... South Bend Trib for one that said Hendrix was weighing things and waanted to see who Kelly got as QB coach and really liked Powlus..... every article seems to say something similar waffling...

with all due respect, Sharpley is a great team guy and asset to the football team, but he simply doesn't have the skills to thrive in Kelly's offense. i trust Kelly's coaching abilities to "develop" our young freshman if there is a Crist injury. also, having rees enrolled in january should help the cause.

Hey, I prefaced it by saying "Its funny to say this" for a reason. All due respect to Evan, I don't think too highly of his skill-set either. But I think higher of it than I do a true freshman. If Crist goes down for a game or 2, I'd rather have an experienced player like him to step in than Hendrix or Rees right now.

If Crist were out for any lengthy period of time, that'd be different b/c to be honest I'd consider the season likely done anyway, so they might as well go with a true freshman and see what he's got. But lets say he's just not ready by week 1, but he is by week 2 or 3, I'd trust Sharpley better to go in an kind of manage the offense in his absence more than a true freshman.

UPDATE:

Crist's recovery is going great. Should be good for Spring. He will not be in pads and will definitely not be touched but he will be ready to throw.

Let the competition begin .... Crist and Rees during the spring and then add Hendrix aand Massa to the mix this fall. Gotta love it .... the spread offense is going to put some major points on the board!

Brian Kelly made it clear yesterday on Rivals radio that Crist is the starter and the 3 incoming freshmen and the walk-ons are competing for the backup job. I believe that it would take a setback or another injury to keep Crist from starting day 1. There is nothing I am looking forward to more next season than seeing Crist develop into a leader of this Irish team!

Don't have time to get a link right now Steve, but I read it on a paysite; I believe Kelly said it during his presser. Things are looking really good for Crist right now...

Crist's Injury

Crist's Injury

If there is a offense that lends an advantage to having a bad knee QB it is the spread. Generally no back pedal out of center.... it should be an easier transition than if we were still running a pro style offense. I know Cincy rolled out with their QBs, I don't think A-B straight line running will be an issue with an ACL recovery. I think we are Golden folks!!!!
