Sweet. Go Irish. Lets keep on losing more recruits and maybe we can end up with the #119th best recruiting class. Oh well. If they dont want to play here then screw them. Looks like we can expect another 6-6 season in a few years with as many kids that are leaving. Keep this up and we could end up with 10 recruits. Defensive line is gonna be pathetic in 2-3 years if we cant get any recruits to stay committed.

The loss of Leuders is much worse than Bernard. We need D line help so bad. At least we got Nix.

Leuders, Bernard and Martin...casualties of the Charlie Weis firing. I'll try and stay optomistic until NSD.

what exactly did you expect to have happen? were guys who had committed to someone else just supposed to say oh hey ok the coach changed the system changed i think i will put my blinders on and just go ahead and keep on my merry way.

no that cannot be expected. please give the guy a year before you tell everyone how bad he sucks.

uh NDOM didn't say anything about any one sucking. What he said was right on. If we can't hold on to our Defensive recruits...our defense will suck. Kinda an un-debatable fact.

@NDinLA I don't know where I was. I just found this today :s . Still sucks even after two days its been news.

Funny video 31! :)

I dont think I can remember when I was so relaxed about the success of Notre Dame football. This coach knows what he's doing. If these guys dont want to come wish them well and let them go. Be classy and respectfull because they will wish they chose Notre Dame when Kelly gets this rolling. The reason I am so sure that success is coming is that they (coaches) give me the impression that they dont have to explain what they are doing as much as 'do the work and you will be successfull'. To me it says alot, I'm a coach and that is the formula-have a tested plan work it and success follows. They explain it to the players and thats all that is needed, we dont need to be in the loop. As far as 4/5 star players etc goes my feeling is the talent is closer than you think with what Charlie left and when they start putting wins on the board Notre Dame will get their share and more. In the mean time they will win with what they have-work the plan see the results. Honestly I havent been this relaxed about upcoming success for a long time. Watch what happens in 2 years. Dont get your pants in a wad over which 4/5 star guy decided not to be Irish.

I concur. Good post. Its pretty bad though when you lose players that you need to fill key positions with. DEFENSIVE LINE! We cant miss out on those guys and we have to SOMEHOW keep the defensive line recruits that we have. Star ratings dont matter to me. Matter of fact I wish they didnt even rate kids. But I have to say its VERY important that we start recruiting HEAVILY on the defensive line. Next year we should offer at least 15 defensive line recruits and maybe we could get a few to commit.

How do you define success?

I could not disagree more....what about the urgent issues that plagued ND all year long? what did the defense end up being ranked last year? 157th? 2009 Notre Dame defense could not physically hang with Stanford, thats a problem. How is the 2010 Oline gonna do? What is going to happen to our 'running' backs in the spread? Is Crist ready to man up is his first year at QB? (statistics suggest first year starting QB's will struggle. plus he has to learn a new system and he is recovering from a serious injury which will delay his progress.) 2010 offense is a complete question mark from personnel to the gameplan.

Now is not the time to relax; since the mid 90's, Notre Dame football has been in a serious tailspin with no end in sight.

Losing Lueders hurts...like an unsuspected sock in the gut.

I agree with this too. Notre Dame needs to get back to targeting athletes on defense moreso than productive high school players, we need to bring speed back to this defense.

Guys like Tuck and VA were great athletes that developed into great linemen. Thats what we need to get back to bringing in.

TD-If I had to say a position it would also be d line. Like you I'd like to see them offer so many that they couldnt help but get 2/3 good ones. Like you I think that the guys that are there will be the foundation for recruiting success down the road when they perform like I think they will under this coach. I was a Charlie guy but it was obvious something was missing. They wanted to do it for him and the school but the matrix of work was not in place. I cant think of how many times I saw practice clips and thought are they half @#$%^$ it or is it just me. Now there is no choice but to go-and hard. I would not be surprised to see some guys we think are starters that dont play as much or not at all as someone else steps up. Under Charlie that most likely wouldnt happen. Now to my shocker which will set hair on fire for some of the guys on this website. As a realist I am happy with 9 solid wins a yr and competing every year for bcs game. To me thats success in todays college football world. When it builds past that then goals can be set higher. That will have to be done with talent equal to the haves in college football. We are not there yet. To play for a national championship in todays college football arena you have to go the route of ala/fla/southern cal/texas/osu and honestly I dont know if I want those guys on campus. But I go back to my original thought- I am relaxed because this headcoach is in fact just that a 'headcoach' and his plan has proved to me that it works.
