... I'm sick of mediocrity.
This, I can agree with.

Alright, I'm not going to be able to stick around, but I'll leave with a final video that includes a reminder of the first 2 years of the Weis era AND my own personal thought: Weis or Edsall or Stoops, it would have mattered not, SHAQ and CRIST and TE'O and FLOYD and the gang are going to run the table. Result of the NC game is still hazy. But the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame will start off 12-0.

Peace.
Let's see, Charlie Weis was a strong offensive coach whose defense killed him. We're bringing in a strong offensive coach, whose offense relies even more on a WR-based aerial attack than Weis. Kelly will need a strong D coordinator to get this D in shape and will likely under-utilize ND's deepest positions: the TEs and RBs. On the other hand, he is Irish Catholic, and that's kinda cool.
I would absolutely agree, that the depth at TE and RB is better than at WR, but as for underutilizing it:
While there may be more depth at TB than WR, none of the TBs on this team are a proven home run threat, like Michael Floyd. So keep feeding Michael, and let the other guys play Scottie Pippen and Robert Horry to Floyd. If Rudolph is healthy, I don't think you can possibly NOT utilize him. Looking at this past season (2009), it looks like the TEs don't play a big role in Kelly's offense. Kazeem Alli and Ben Guidugli combined for 33 receptions. But Cincy did have 9 guys in double figures in receptions, so he doesn't seem to focus on just one guy and forget about everyone else. I'm sure Rudolph will make it very difficult for his coach to overlook, or underutilize, him.
Rudolph said he was really excited by the hire and actually thinks Kelly uses the TE position well in his offense. He said he was looking forward to working under Kelly, and it seemed as if Kelly reassured him that he'd used. No offense to the Cincy TE's, but Kelly has never had a TE the likes of Rudolph, so I'm sure he'll use him often and use him well...

I love the way he went about this process. He told the most powerful alumni group group/board of trustees that they were going to have NO SAY and would have no influence on the hire, and he stuck to his guns. And if you know anything about the BOT, then you know how difficult that is.
I loved how the entire media was tripping over themselves chasing false leads (and reporting them anyways), contradicting each other (and in the case of Joe Schadd, himself) every single day, every single hour. They all looked like fools, espcially ESPN and foolish websites like that football coaches joke of a site.
As for the actual hire, I LOVE it. Maybe I'm drinking the Kool-aid, but I've read up a ton on Kelly, and he just excites me for what he can and will do at ND. I'm in. Are you in?
It was gonna be Brian Kelly. The big boys were satisfied with Brian Kelly. They wanted Stoops or Meyer but knew it was a long shot. Kelly was interviewed, looked like a done deal, everything was in place. Then Swarbrick decides he wants to look at Randy Edsall. These guys had a shit fit. Then magically, no more Randy Edsall, despite mutual interest, and Brian Kelly is hired. Now I dont have anything but ennuendo from him on that but there was a real quick change of heart in about a 12 hour period.
Jack can say all this stuff but ND likes its big boy donors and they want to feel a part of this stuff and they are given their part.
The recruiting I don't think will define coach Kelly (his first couple of weeks), I think it will be his supporting cast. Let's see who he gets in here as assistants and then go from there. There is a couple I hope he retains.
As far as Swarbrick, I think he found the best one available.

You dont hafta leave man. You have a lot of valid points. At least from my perspective.

i dont understand why in every single post you bring up weis, usually more than once. sometimes more than kelly. can you explain why you would be in a thread about the NEW coach talking about the OLD coach so much?
honestly its time to move on.
Agree. Jack did not hit the 400 foot pluse home run we had hoped for, but he made good contact and maybe Coach Kelly can leg out a in-the-park home run for us. Time to move forward, me included, and support this team and new leader.
I disagree... BK is the next Urban Meyer, but without the sleeze.
This was a solid Home Run.
Anyone who thought that ND would get Stoops or Meyer is smoking something.
I agree that Rudolph and Floyd will play a huge role in next years offense. Kelly has said he will adjust to his players, but I still don't see how you can make use of four RBs if your stated goal is to run over 100 offensive plays per game.

I love the hire and Swarbrick, bottom line, signed the most realistic guy...
Side note: Baseball must be America's game. All common taters on all sports always use the term "Step up to the plate."
90% of American metaphors are baseball-related it seems.
