Anybody watching it just now?
Herbstreit ripped us a new one.But every single word he said was correct.
Said our football program has been irrelevant since '93,which unfortunately is true.
Everyone picked Stanford by at least 2 TD's.can't blaim them.
I will never wish for us to lose, even if it gets us a new coach, but we are going to get smoked today.

If anyone but Herbie said it I might be upset but I respect his opinion, he wasn't hating he was just telling it like he sees it.

Did anyone here see that sign in the BG that read:

Weis + Mangino = The biggest Loser (The Final Season)

They had another sign for Clausen but I couldn't read it..........

If you're watching CGD and saw that piece on Jake from California...whew. Had to bite my lip on that one and hold back the tears. What a kid. What a fighter. Classy pete carroll once again. I also love the fact that all the gator fans there chanted Jake afterwards.

USC's version of pass right

I hate to say it, but the more I see and hear about Pete Carroll, it is almost impossible to dislike him. I have always hated USC, but I can't say the same for Pete. Their success all starts with him.

I think we have had relevance during the last 3 coaching regimes for short periods of time:

- Davie dot us to a BCS game
- Ty went 8-0 to start his campaign
- Charlie started out strong his first 2 seasons.

we've been irrelevant as a football program since 93.

You (and others) keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

If the ND football program was irrelevant, why would CGD be talking about them? Why would there be talk that some of the elite coach's in college football be interested in a vacant position? Why would they have a huge television contract with a major network for home games? Why is every away game on a major network? Why would they have a huge and lucrative contract with the BCS? Why would the head coach be interviewed on 60 minutes? Why do all of the major (and minor) sports pages, networks, blogs, etc. write articles and run stories on the program?

Irrelevant means extraneous, inapplicable, pointless, trivial, unnecessary. None of those terms apply to the ND football program. If it did none of the above things would be true.

But they are true. And all are post-1993. In fact, they're all present day (except the 60 minutes interview with Weis, which was in 2006).

Irrelevant is not the word you (or anyone else) are looking for. Maybe slumping? Maybe in decline?

Certainly not irrelevant.

Exactly!!! Reps. I went on ESPN's college football page the other day, and 4 out of their top 7 headlines were on ND. Think about that. Not SC, not FL, not TX, not Bama, not LSU, not Ohio St, not Penn State. Notre Dame, during a 6-5 year. And that is just one website. GO look around the Internet. Hell, Michigan is in the same predicament, even worse off than we are, and they barely get a sniff nationally. There is no way in hell that ND is irrelevant. Mediocre, sure, but irrelevant? Not even close...

If we're irrelevant why is Herby going to call the game when neither team will be playing in a NewYear's day bowl game?

we're irrelevant as a football program in the fact that we havn't accomplished anything significant since '93.
so what if ty willingham started off 8-0? look how he ended.
who cares about getting to bcs bowls if you get absolutely blown out in them?
we're now moving onto our 5th head coach in less than 2 decades....that clearly shows our program has some serious problems.

i LOVE ND.i really do. but you guys can't honestly say that our program is anything to be excited about right now(and im not talking about our history...we have great tradition,im simply talking about how low we've sunk.)

we get all of this recognition and media BECAUSE we're ND. We have the most storied program in the history of collegiate athletics. That gives us some clout. That is why people talk about us.

I think we can get back to greatness. But it is going to take a LOT.
1.We have to get a championship caliber coach, whether it be pro or college.Someone who can run a tough defense with athletic horses, not the mules we have now.
2.Our administration has to understand the concept of getting the right athletes. Now, like has been said earlier,we can do this without watering down our university, there are ways we can do it.
3.Our fanbase, including myself, have to realize it will take some time, even with the right coach. It will not happen overnight like we have expected forever. When we put these unrealisic expectations on the shoulders of the coaches,it only makes it more difficult to get to the final destination.Understand that even with a great coach like Stoops or Meyer it will take probably 3-5 years to get to be a consistent BCS caliber team.

those are just a few of my thoughts on things we have to do. i know a lot of you will disagree, but i feel they're necessities.

Try Hulu.com for a backup. I don't know how to find the game on that site but I'm sure someone here does.

that clearly shows our program has some serious problems.

Serious problems does not mean "irrelevant".

can't honestly say that our program is anything to be excited about right now

Nothing to be excited about also doesn't mean "irrelevant." And I disagree. Is Jimmy Clausen nothing to be excited about? How about Golden Tate, one of the most exciting players in college football? Even if we lose those two, there's Michael Floyd. Armando Allen. Manti Teo. Those are guys to get excited about. The incoming class has a lot of guys to get excited about. Even a new coach is something to get excited about.

we get all of this recognition and media BECAUSE we're ND. We have the most storied program in the history of collegiate athletics. That gives us some clout. That is why people talk about us.

Now you're starting to realize what irrelevant means! This above quotation explains how we are not irrelevant. Excellent. You get it!

All the crap posted is why the next hire is so important... can't be a dumbshit move like Harbaugh, or Billick... has to be a solid move.
