Mark it down - he'll go back to Indianapolis - done deal - - and fill Myles Brand's position that is still empty after Brand passed away.

Funny thing.... I think the ND postion is bigger.

However, does a guy who knows he is leaving within the year want to be the one to fire and then hire the coach that will be the next guys responsibility.

Link?

Because if you call it a done deal, then you are saying it is a fact. Otherwise, without a link stating that it really is a done deal, it is just your opinion. This comes out of the clear blue sky, so you have to give us more than 'it is a done deal'...

Call it a prediction.... I'll stand by it with a hit to my cred if it doesn't happen... within would not be a lucky F'n guess.

My sources tell me that if FSU does not renew Bowden's contract, that he will be the next coach at ND.

Be sure to take a major hit on my cred if this doesn't pan out, but it wouldn't be a lucky guess if it does.

Fair enough.

We've been burned here PLENTY on guys who say they have 'inside sources', and when their sources are inevitably wrong, they run with their tails between their legs never to be seen again. Meanwhile the site looks ridiculous.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

There should be penalties beyond hit to credibility here. If someone makes claims like that and they turn out to be wrong, we should be able to shackle them in a vStockade in the Irish Envy vTownsquare and we can all hurl vTomatoes at them and mock them openly. Or how about vFlogging?

It's reasonable for Swarbrick to be on a potential Search List for the NCAA President's slot. But what's the rationale for Swarbrick making such a move?

Brand made $935,000 while supervising a staff of 380 employees.

I didn't find Swarbrick's ND salary nor the number of ND Athletic Department salary. I did find an article describing compensaton at Florida.

Florida Enters BCS Title Game With Top-Paid Athletic Director - Bloomberg.com

UF AD Jeremy Foley makes $965,000 base (and has additional bonuses and benefits) while supervising 500 employees. UF President Bernard Meacham by comparision has a base of $416,000 plus benefits.

I believe ND doesn't have as many sports programs as UF but don't have the numbers for either school. I'd assume ND with smaller enrollment has less putting ND's Athletic Department employees probably between the NCAA's 380 and UF's 500.

I'll hazard the guess that Swarbrick (or Foley or OSU's Gene Smith) would be making a lateral move by leaving a top tier major university AD slot to become the NCAA's President. And as toothless as the NCAA is becoming (impact of Alabama, Bush, and FSU situations) I don't see why they would want to go there.

I will point out that Swarbrick came to ND from Indianapolis:

"Swarbrick, a former lawyer with Indianapolis law firm Baker & Daniels LLP, is no stranger to prompting change. While the chairman of the Indiana Sports Corporation from 1992 to 2001, Swarbrick was instrumental in bringing the NCAA offices from Kansas City to Indianapolis in 1997.

Currently, he is working with Mark Miles, president and CEO of the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership, to bring the Super Bowl to Indianapolis' Lucas Oil Stadium in 2012.

"Jack is a Notre Dame person," said Miles, who has known Swarbrick since 1985. "He kind of walks the walk and talks the talk. He believes in the university.

"He's very bright and competent. He does not care about having the limelight. He's not the kind of person who comes into the room and expects everyone to take notice and yet he is a great leader. People respect not just his integrity but his confidence and his intellect right away."

Swarbrick, a 1976 graduate of Notre Dame, never has been an athletic administrator at the collegiate level, but he was considered for athletic director positions at Indiana and Stanford, and last year's commissioner opening with the Big 12 Conference. In 2002, he was a finalist for the NCAA president's position that went to Myles Brand."

Those jumping on my ass for no link were saying?

South Bend Tribune: Notre Dame football: Why not Tuberville at ND?

"It figures they'd want to know if Swarbrick was actually going to be their boss for the long term or if the rumors he may be aligning himself to be the next NCAA grand poobah have legs?"

After reading that, I'm actually more comfortable with Tuberville than I was before. I like they he's gone around and learned from several different coaches since he left Auburn.

Don't think he'd be ahead of Kelly in my book, but I think he's ahead of Edsall.

I was saying, "Provide a link" and I'm glad you finally did. You expect us to believe 'sources'??? Sources have told us that it would be Stoops. Sources told us that it would be Kelly. Sources told us that it would be Edsall. Sources have told us that it would be Meyer.

So yeah, links are nice. Congrats on finally getting one. But don't get mad at people expecting links when it's the obvious thing to expect...

I'm with the TC, I have been thinking for a while his goal is the NCAA job... besides maybe he'll nail SC... :devil_2:

ALTHOUGH, this hire could play huge into that, that's my may rationale that Swarbrick can not settle for anything less than a HR... even more than a usual ND AD

NDinLA - Not mad... I don't throw out - my friend's mom who works with a lady that.... if I don't hear it from a guy/gal with a parking pass that I know sits in the dome's shadow or within steps (reserved parking) of the Joyce or Gug, then I don't repeat it... or I identify it (as I did in a few rumors by "a former national championship ND QB who still lives in South Bend" in another thead). I heard over the weekend it (JS) could come as early as February. With regard to the JS story... it would be inconvenient to ID where it came from.

Now, The South Bend Tribune could be commenting on this thread - LOL. But, I doubt it.

In an interview with Eric Hansen, Swarbrick has said he will NOT be the next NCAA president.

It was on Hansen's twitter: "Had 1-on-1 today with #NotreDame athletic director Jack Swarbrick for a story later this week. He insisted he will NOT be next NCAA prez."

The Hansen interview confirms my thoughts. I think that Jack wants to leave a meaningful legacy of his time at ND. That would be tough to do in two-to-three years.

I'd hate to lose this guy but if we did the NCAA would be in better hands, maybe like 'Kennesaw Mountain Landis' who would put the hammer down on cheaters. Either way we win. Jack looks like a stud to me.

He's going to need more than 2 or 3 years to undo the "legacy" of Monk, Beauchamp, Wadsworth, and White. I think he's a significant upgrade from White.

Swarbrick's seeminngly casual comment regarding Floyd, Student Athletes, and fame and notoriety, struck me as a tactful but nonetheless a follow up volley to Weis's shot at ResLife in his exit interview. I can't fathom Swarbrick taking a public shot at another department's policy without Fr Jenkins being on the same page. We can hope that some balance will appear in the Office of Residential Life to offset the draconian tone of Poorman, Shoup, and Firth.
