If you cant name your source, dont claim to have inside knowledge. Many posters have gotten burned for that.

My inside source comes from Eric Reichel, an associate with inside knowledge of the Athletic Department.

Yes, I can't wait for the "who the h e double hockey sticks is that?" comments.

We either keep Charlie or get Brian Kelly. I personally want Brian Kelly, but Charlie is a great recruiter and I hope he can have a role as an offensive coordinator or recruiter.

Everyone has an ND clause. But no one wants to go.. Heh. Stoops would be a good pick up imo. Defense minded, good resume. Venables would be another good pick. I favour Kelly, but that doesn't mean I am not open to other people. No for Gruden, did I mention that before?

I wonder how many coaches have an ND clause in their contract... I guess that is directed towards BGIF cause he seems to know everything.

I like kelly as a head coach also, the only thing that worries me about him is that I have heard that he is a major D-bag, and has burned bridges recruiting in the past. Aside from that you cannot argue with the fact that everywhere he goes he wins, and I don't see why that could not continue at ND, unless he has some major recruiting issues.

If CW gets the axe at head coach there's no way he's going to stay in South Bend...he's going to be skipping back to Foxborough with a nice buy out check

This would be my main concern with Kelly as well. I dont know if he has the type of charismatic personality to lure the big recruits in to play for him. For this reason I would rather roll the dice with Gruden. His energy, resume, and the fact that he would be coaching Notre Dame would be extremely appealing to a young recruit I would think. I could easily see Notre Dame bringing in top 5 recruiting classes on a yearly basis under Gruden.

CW is my first choice to remain, but if not Jim Harbaugh. Again nothing out there but the flava-flave of the week. Need to stay the course until after Jimmy's senior year.

Agree with your points and Kelly is a long shot at best Having been in the Tampa area while Gruden was the head coach here for the Bucs, I just don't see it.

From what i have heard of Kelly's personality is he makes Weis seem like a puppy. Very arrogant and a d-bag. If the alumns hated Weis's arrogance i dont see them loving Kelly

Jimmy is not going to have a senior year. Quit setting yourself up for disappointment. It's for the best.

I know a lot of you guys(myself included) don't want an NFL guy but I have always admired Tony Dungy. I think he has very high morals and would be a ND kind of guy. He has proven himself in the NFL but we all know that CFB is a different world. I know he's retired and all and that it won't happen but I would like to see how that would work out.

Gruden and Dungy are my first two choices. I know a lot of people don't want to go the NFL-route, but I would take that over going the Big East route (Kelly). And I think Harbaugh could be a good fit, but like Jason said, he seems to be a bit of a dick and who knows how the alumni would feel about it. And he's from Michigan...

Oh, wow! I never even thought about Dungy. That's a great point! I don't know if he has any interest whatsoever, but I would take Tony Dungy in a heartbeat!!

Reasons for Dungy:
1) His Tampa-2 defense would be a welcome addition to Notre Dame
2) Even though he doesn't have significant experience, I think he would be a tremendous recruiter based on his personality
3) His quiet passion is contagious I believe and would be a strong motivation for the team

Now, I know he is not an exceptional offensive coach. However, I do think with his connections, that he would find a top caliber offensive coordinator to help him out. (Hell, this guy may talk Charlie into staying on, ha ha.)

I know that this post is highly wishful thinking. I do not really think that Dungy would come here based on how much time he wants to spend with his family, and how much he wants to step down to college and unretire. However, he is a Midwest guy with a very strong faith, so ND could potentially have a shot.

I am a supporter of giving Charlie another year (if he doesn't lose the team), in some part due to the lack of talented coaches who could replace him. But, I know that I would jump at the chance to get a Tony Dungy in here. ...Personal plug: If you want to read a good book or get a better knowledge of who Tony Dungy is, read "Quiet Strength," it is a tremendous book.

Also, what good parent alive wouldn't want their kid playing for him for the next 4 years. Tony is the kind of coach and person you want your kids around. Man I wish it were a possibility!

for sure. you kids would get to spend more time with tony than his own kids ever did. i think tony is too busy mentoring fine young men like michael vick to bother with nd.

brian kelly will be the next coach.

Everyone on here kills me,

How about we bench, Young for getting his ass kicked all night..How about we bench Floyd for not looking at all like he has in the past, How about we bench every one who dropped a ball Sat. night. How about we kick that ding dong off the team that got the penalty for roughing the kicker, Last but DEFIINETLY not least, know one can sit here and say that the refs were not onesided in that game agaist pitt. Esp. the no call face mask on Tate and how they used CHarlie's timeout to review a play and then would not give it back...Oh and the fumble call, even the booth was like how did they see that.....You coach hating d-bags, need to realize it's not Charlie, it's the team....Sorry to SAY IT!!!!

Hold on, I think that's quite the blanket statement. I know that I personally said that I support Charlie for another year, except if Dungy (or someone of similar caliber) becomes available. I know that some have been completely unrealistic and unfounded of their criticism of Charlie or the team in general, however I don't think overreacting like you have done helps anything. And it is definitely not true that the head coach is absolved of any blame for any loss.

Dungy

Dungy

as a lifelong Colts fan, I am here to tell you that you don't want Dungy, and it wouldn't happen anyway, so forget it.

He's a uncompromising Christian - he would never do the Catholic thing. I know its not a requirement to be Catholic, but he would see it as a compromising of his beliefs.

Also, he's not interested in what it would take to be a college coach. He wants to live in Florida (the last 2 years of his Colts run, he'd moved out of Indy back to Tampa, and was COMMUTING back and forth every week). He doesn't want to travel, and won't be up for the commitment to recruiting it will take. He won't want to live in South Bend like you'd have to.

And lastly, as much of a calming influence as he had, his coaching was questioned a lot. His defenses lacked fire, and his belief that speed ALWAYS trumps size cost the Colts several games. We had 250 lb starting DT's under Dungy. Teams ran up the middle at will. The first thing the new coach did when Dungy left was demand size up the middle. We have it, and the defense is SOO much better this year for it. A popular nickname among Colts fans is "One-and-Dungy" (half joking, but half serious) - we lost WAAAAY too many first round playoff games under his watch. Don't get me wrong, he's beloved by Indy fans, but he's not the perfect coach the National media would have you believe.

Trust me, guys, he ain't coming, and you wouldn't want it anyway.

Since we're just throwing names out there, how about Mike Shanahan. If you remember there were rumors when we hired Charlie, about Shanahan. At that time Shanahan was employed, now he isn't.
