Hey guys, lets look at Iowa. Based on record they should have fired Kirk Ferentz a decade ago. They stuck with him and the continuity of the program has made that into a pretty decent program. Jon Gruden isn't going to cut it as a college coach. Peterson wont leave Boise as long as he is getting BCS contention. Chip Kelly probably wont leave Cincy because he is top dog in teh Big East. Yeah, we will be loaded next year, if Charlie stays. If he doesn't say goodbye to a lot of the players, a lot of the recruits, and a lot of future wins.

Kirk Ferentz?

Iowa football has never mattered, nor does their history compare anything to that of Notre Dame's. Kirk Ferentz can go 1-10 and 3-9 in his first 2 seasons and nobody would care other than their local fanbase, but the program had been irrelevant for the final years of Fry's regime.

Iowa is a decent Big 10 program, 3 good seasons followed by 3 mediocre seasons. Nobody cares.

This is Fat Charlie's 5th year, do you honestly see us improving next season with what we are & what we most expect to lose at the end of the season?

This was supposed to be our year, now we are calling about the Alamo Bowl.

I've supported Charlie and understand that he is a young HEAD coach. He's got plenty of years under his belt as an OC, but he is still learning as a head coach. That being said, although I don't think he should be fired (which would set the program back AGAIN), he needs to take a long look in the mirror. This was just a bad game from the start. Much of that is not his fault. The turnovers were not his fault. The penalties are not his fault. What disappoints me though is that he did not have this team ready to play. This team was not ready to match Navy's intensity. Another thing I am just frustrated with is red zone offense. Do we have any other plays other than the same fade patterns that got Floyd hurt? What about some Play-action? SOMETHING!! This is definitely not good for recruiting. The defense was just embarrassed today. If I am a stud recruit, why would I want to play on THAT defense right now?? Where were the adjustments? It was like they've never seen this team before. UGH!!!!

One more thing.....this defense was going to get us beat at least 1-2 more times. Many of you probably drunk the kool-aid after the WSU game. WSU sucks in a MAJOR way. The truth is that we have a TOP 5 offense and a bottom of the rung defense. Charlie needs to recruit his arse off on the defensive side of the ball. Right now we are not good enough to overcome a bad game by the offense (like today). That happens. Offenses will have bad games. We don't have a defense strong enough to overcome that. If our offense is bad, we pretty much don't have a shot to beat anybody right now.

Positives

- Catholic (Notre Dame likes Catholics)
- Has turned Central Michigan (had back-to-back seasons with 9 and 10 wins) and Cincinatti (the Big East's most dominant team) into good programs. He can win anywhere.
- He wins, plain and simple, with two, three, and four star recruits. Imagine what he could with Clausen, Tate, Floyd, etc.?

Negatives

- Has not coached a big-time program.
- Has not proven he can recruit for a big-time school. (However, Weis is a great recruiter and had no prior experience with any college football recruiting, so this might not be such a negative

Seriously Charlie is an upgrade over Ty & Bob, however if we are going to be on the level of the actual Elites in college football we need to make a Good hire. Not another B list hire and hope they can exceed expectations in 7+ years.

If we fire Charlie and hire someone who has a good reputation with coaching, recruiting, and building a program up we wont have to sit around and complaining about mediocrity like we have been doing for the last 3 years. If the administration went out and brought in someone like Brian Kelly, or Urban Meyer, or Mark Richt, or Les Miles do you believe they would underachieve like Charlie Weis has while at Notre Dame?

This is not about the football program, we are capable of being an elite team once again, the problem is we haven't made the right hire and we've suffered the last 10 years because of it.

You are correct! The example is Cincy, and BSU would both beat us, yet they have much much less talent then do. They are disciplined, tough, fundamentally sound football teams. We on the other hand are not.

First, I don't know how long you have been on this board but we do not insult players or coaches. A Mod will get after you for that if they have not already. Secondly, yes, I do see us improving next year if Charlie stays. During the 3-9 season people were saying the same thing, "Will we improve next year, I dont think so" Well we did, 4 more wins. After last year, people were saying the same thing, questioning Clausen and other players and Weis, and look what happened, we are better than last year. We are at 6 regular season wins right now. I see us improving on last years win loss record. Next year, I see improvement again.
