They will want to pair us with Bama/Fla loser. I would love to play southern cal ( love saying that ) and for sure the team would like it. Problem is a team in Pitts Pa that is no pushover and ahead of us a this time. Pittsburgh game is going to be nasty hard.

It would surprise me if they put us with BSU... only because I think the committee kind of wants BSU to get the crap beat out of them so they stop complaining year in and year out. I don't think ND could trounce them the way other teams could. I think we could beat them, just not pound them.

Because ND has not played an elite team all year. We lost to a soon to be 5-7 or 6-6 Michigan team, whos greatest win outside of ND is Indiana. We lost to a USC team that lost to Washington and got destroyed by Oregon. Oregon, who you might not know, got dismantled by BoiseSt.

The fact that an elite defense would destroy or at the very least neutralize NDs ailing offense, and the fact that ND can't really stop anyone, tells me that it would be a painful exercise in how far ND is away from being a top5 team.

And yes I do watch a lot of football, it sure seems like you don't.

once again phork, you cant predict the future. if i knew who would win every game before they played i wouldnt be on this site, i would be making millions in vegas.

after the way oregon played against usc i dont think anyone wants a piece of that action but i wouldnt be surprised at all if they come out flat for the stanford game this saturday, teams change from week to week, emotions change, circumstances change, these are kids, capable of extreme highs and extreme lows, you almost never get the same team two weeks in a row.

Not fair to call our offense "ailing" when we are averaging over 31 points a game and we're just getting Floyd back now. I've said this the whole year: I wouldn't be worried about playing any team on a neutral field besides Florida and Bama. Our D is playing better and I'm not saying we're going to have a top 25 D anytime soon, but I bet at the end of the year if you just look at our Defensive stats from the last 6 games, we will have a top 40-50 D which is easily good enough to hang with anyone with our offense. And you say you watch a lot of football, but I have a tough time believing it if you say an elite defense would "destroy" our offense, especially considering we will have Floyd back for a bowl game.

I hate to say it, but I have to agree with phork. Our offense is amazing, but the defense....it's still off, and if the O happens to have a couple 3 and outs (because we aren't scoring on every possesion) I question if the D could stop the other guys. We made a HUGE step in landing Teo and getting him in there as a true freshman, but we're a few blue chip recruits away from building an "elite" D.
The sheer team speed of teams like...Florida, LSU, Texas....Notre Dame hasn't seen anything like that since....well Jamarcus Russell and LSU in the Sugar Bowl, and we all remember that.
I would and always will give us a puncher's chance in any game we play because of our quick strike/big play capability, but a football game is 60 minutes long, and you can't rely on one aspect of the game that long..

Everyone wants to complain about how Weis hasn't won any "big" games and his best two "wins" are close losses to USC. Kelly went 0-6 against BCS teams at Central Michigan and whenever he has played ranked teams at Cincy who aren't in the Big East, his teams have done pretty poorly (0-2 and outscored 72-33.) I like Kelly, but its hard to say we should hire him when his best wins have probably been ones over 9-4 WVU and 9-4 Pitt last year.

I thought earlier in another post, USC wasn't considered into the "elite" category. You are most certainly my anti-matter phork. I could no longer see eye-to-eye with you than look straight down Lombard Street. I know it's odd seeing "straight" and a descriptive San Fran landmark synonymously placed within context...

I agree our o-line got destroyed by USC. But it was still only a 7 point loss, and I'm not saying Floyd would make us win easily, but there's some people who seem to think just because we lost once to them then we would again.
