I know that being in the top 8 guarantees us a spot in a bcs game. is there a certain minimum ranking that we must have or no?

I would hazard a guess that ND would have to be in the top15 minimum to be selected. Since every conference can only have 2 teams in any total BCS games.

A. Has won at least nine regular-season games, and
B. Is among the top 14 teams in the final BCS Standings.

I disagree. We still have a hobbled quarterback and are without the best receiver in the country. It is also way too early to talk about the bcs. Depending on the way things shake out, 10-2 might easily put is in. Or it could end up we arent close. Its only the first weekend in October...

Just an observation, not a statement. It COULD happen. We certainly need our opponents to keep winning. And we will continue to be without the best receiver in the country. We are one of the few teams that is actually ranked by how it wins, not that it wins. Injuries or not, ND will get hosed. We've seen it. 10-2 with the potential for 0 of our wins to be against top 25 opponents would not bode well.

And its never too early to talk BCS.

We are 4-1. Last weeks win was a "W". They're always going to say our schedule isn't tough enough, and we are not in a confrence and need to be. We beat USC we probably will get ranked 23-24. Personally the rankings are a joke ! Oklahoma 2-2 still in the top 25? with or without Bradford? please just shows you how screwed up the system is.

Lets just keep winning games everything else will fall in place.

Keep the faith !!!

GO IRISH !!!

You have to understand the voters point of view here.. Here is ND at 4-1. 1 Blowout victory and last minute wins and an OT over teams with a combined record of 6 - 13. A loss against the only good team on the schedule.
ND was supposed to "Show Me" and so far they haven't impressed anyone.

The offense has been very impressive but I would agree the D has to improve. One thing I was impressed with was the goal line stands. I think 28 is just about right for us right now. Let's play USC and when we win, then we can talk about rankings.

13 - 15? That big a jump against a 1 loss team? Don't see it.

I'm with you but the country sees us differently-my thought is make your own respect- I want them to come out 'cold blooded ready' against SC. Some jumping around before the game (OK) but quietly confident and ready to make a statement against the crown. SC does not think there is any way possible they can loose this game. You watch the postings by their poeple the next 10 days- they will tell you they cannot loose. This is a players game. I think Notre Dame wins this game.

I believe this is a perfect set up!

Keep telling us were not good enough....

That should only motivate our team to play at a higher level! The more we are backed in a corner the better we'll play next saturday! That's

Our crowd better be in it too!

The biggest reason is the voters are suspect. In recent years ND has lost bowl games badly and their reanking looked foolish. The voters are incosistant anyway. USC loses by 3 to an Unranked UW and drops 7 spots from 3rd to 10th I believe. Ole Miss loses by 4 to a better unranked South Carolina team and drops from 4th to 17th I believe. The voters have their teams they like to see, right now ND is not one of them.

OSU vs. ND Schedule & Ranking

OSU vs. ND Schedule & Ranking

Interesting stats I just figured. Especially all you Irish fans in Buckeye country who have to listen to radio announcers trash our schedule!

OSU W-L
  1. Navy 1-4 W
  2. USC 4-1 L
  3. Toledo 3-3 W
  4. Illinois 1-4 W
  5. Indiana 3-3 W
  6. Wisconsin 5-1 W
  7. Purdue 1-5
TOTAL: 21-19

ND W-L
  1. Nevada 2-3 W
  2. Michigan 4-2 L
  3. Michigan St. 3-3 W
  4. Purdue 1-5 W
  5. Washington 3-3 W
  6. USC 4-1
  7. Boston College 4-2
TOTAL: 21-19

So we should be in the top 10 with a win this Saturday!! Shouldn't we?

Not exactly. Stats can say a lot things and can prove your argument in several ways. But the truth is a little deeper here. While ND was unimpressive, as a whole team, OSU blew out everyone except Navy and of course the loss to USC.

If you handed those numbers to someone who knew nothing about college football, you might actually prove the teams are equal. A little research would prove who belongs where.

I didn't say we were better but a W is a W and USC beat OSU we beat USC, thats what polls are looking at. OSU D is better than ours thats a no brainer, but there offense clearly needs work. Not a fact yet, but I'm pretty sure our opponents were tougher than there's so far.

Not to go away from the topic here, but has anyone else been really impressed with Navy this year? I always pay attention to them anyway, but more so this year with the close loss to OSU. They've looked really good, and they play 13 games this year. With the bowl game, I would not be surprised to see 10-11 wins.

Oh and they're playing SMU tomorrow and they've ran the ball 96 straight times against them...

Yep, thats the main thing I bring up when I'm talking to the buck nuts here. Actually they don't have MSU on there schedule this year, but they usually do.

go to phil steele's site and look up strength of schedule for '09, that'll shut those buck nutz up. ND was 36 and OSU was either 39 or 40.

Thanks, I'll check it out, but they just shun it like it was a mistake and still think there strength of schedule is still better. They're the most annoying fans ever.
