Okay, seriously people... you guys have to be all idiots.

CW has stocked the team with stud recruits, he put out one of the top ten offense's in the country this year, and totally shown sides of this team maturing and becoming a BSC bowl caliber team.

There will always be close games that go one way or the other. That's football. But if our team keeps looking like it does for the remainder of the year and shows so much progress, perhaps we can do it.

What if he beats USC and still loses one more game this year? Don't you think that way of looking at the season is flawed

Lose only to USC or he's gone? When was the last time ND played for the NC? Outside of the very recent elite (USC, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas), when has a team been expected to only lose one game a year? The rest of this schedule is not a given. Trips to Stanford and Pittsburgh are not easy games for anyone, let alone this team. I think 8-4 makes him questionable, but 9-3 or better, and he buys himself some time.

I believe the AD mentioned a New Years Day bowl or bust. But in year 5 I would expect that ND would be competing for a BCS game.

It's scary to think that almost every key player on offense and defense will be back next year (minus some departures on the oline). If this team finishes the year at least 9-3, they will head into next season as a National Championship contending team full of upperclass stars and future 1st round DPs.

Hey, I am behind Weis 150%, but if he loses to any other team than to USC, thats a second game we lost this year where we have superior talent. If he beats USC and we go 10-2 still, let him stay obviously.

If we loose to USC and another team that is a 9-3 record, 3 games better than the year before. Maybe it's just me but that is still very good progress, as long as the other loose other than USC isn't a shut out and we look like crap.

As Brown said our team next year will be made up of almost all starters... all from Weis's recruiting. If we do not compete in a BCS next year (assuming we don't make one this year) then I say fire Weis. But as of right now I'm still 110% behind him.

Seems to me that if we lose to SC again, the only way Weis keeps his job is if, 1.) we win all the remaining games on the schedule or possibly drop a close 3rd game, leaving us at 9-3 at WORST, and, 2.) we are playing in a New Year's Day bowl game....and we MUST win that game as well.

I think any regular season record worse than 9-3, he is toast.
Any NON-BCS bowl loss, he is toast.

Just my 2 cents.

8 - 4 and he gets another year - he finishes out things with JC and he has a more developed D-line (many 5th year O-liners) and a host of skilleds. If he's mediocre with that class - he turns over the reigns (so many South Bend people are talking some Mishawaka High guy named Gruden) and he has a senior D-line, Crist, Theo, Woods, Evans, Welch (I assume Rudolph and Floyed are gone).

Getting back to the article. The whole premise is incredibly stupid.

1. If Weis gets canned, then the 3-9 year will define his era at ND. It will be compared to his first two years, and people will point out that he could only win with kids recruited by someone else.

2. If he wins and stays, then there are probably some very good years ahead, that will likely define his era at ND.

This article is nothing but sensationalism, and yet another example of the media just trying to stir up controversy, to get people talking.

This decision is much more subjective than wins and losses. There is no mark that say 9 wins or beat usc or go to a bcs game or your fired. This decision is based on the direction of the program and at the end of the year has the team shown significant growth. All those other things will help but it is not as easy as win 10 or else

I would rather see Weis stay as offensive coordinator rather than be totally let go. Then have Gruden, Pat Hill, or someone else as the head coach. I don't know how long CW can be the head guy with his health anyway. But he does run an awesome offense.

I really believe Pat Hill would be perfect for the job. I don't know if he will be in Fresno much longer. He has done all he can there.

Those departures on the offensive line are huge. When was the last time we lost some reliable starters on the offensive line?

How about 2005? Dan Stevenson and Mark LeVoir, two experienced players, left. The next year, Quinn is pummeled.

How about 2006? Ryan Harris, Bob Morton, etc. We all know what happened the next year.

Pat Hill? Are you kidding me? If you can't play defense you are not going to go very far.

If CW goes will we really be better off? I'm a Tampa Bay Bucs fan and Gruden didn't impress me here. If we keep swapping coaches we'll never have any stability in the program.

We have talented sophmores waiting with baited breath for an opportunity to step in and take their place. And Verducci ostensibly knows what he's doing.

Does getting jobbed out of the UM game do anything for his record? Will Swarbrick look at it differently if we lose to USC by one score, another team by one score and that UM loss..??

Meanwhile, Notre Dame followers have their own list, and they're not waiting until December or January to do the performance review. Some of the criticism directed at Weis is valid and deserved. Some of it is shrill and reactionary.

He's on target there. "The Season's Over!"

But there is no denying he is at an intersection of his Notre Dame career.
...

Like it or not, we'll likely know by the end of these five games.

USC is more mortal than anytime in the past 5 years but they got there seasonal "burp" out of their system. The game would still be an uphill battle - with Clausen, Allen, Aldridge, and Floyd healthy.

Weis could win the next 5 and could lose to PIT and/or Stanford.

The article really isn't about 'defining' anything. Its about whether he keeps his job, plain and simple.

As others have said, there's no magic number of wins he's got to hit. The the USC game is a true litmus test. We have GOT to be competitive in that game. If we get drummed again, it will just feel futile the rest of the year no matter what happens. Its the kind of thing that can kill your season, much like the loss to Carolina was last year.

you guys are the best

you guys are the best

I hear all the Charlie stuff, I like the posts and we all know the pressure, espn-irrelavant. I think there are guys on irishenvy with more sense and insight. Just get past these next 2 games and get SC in here, Irish are going to play out of their minds in that game.

I think you have to keep Weis, he has done a lot for ND. We just need to find a Defensive Recruiter as good as Weis is an Offensive Recruiter.
