Hopefully when our coaches got word of this they were on the phone w/ Martin. Now that these big schools are interested in Martin his ranks will rise. If ND loses bye-bye Weis, recruiting, and the whole ND football program. Bascially ND must win. I hope Martin is not one of those guys who we'll see next February w/ 3 hats and he does not choose the Irish.

The big schools have always been interested in Martin, he just never took calls because he was committed.

So you're telling me none of us have any reason to root for the Irish if Charlie isn't here in 2010?

Polish Leppy,
My reply said nothing about not rooting for the Irish, I would say just about everyone on this board is going to always root for the Irish. Like I said in my previous post, if ND has a losing season, I think the program will fall.

Shirley discusses Washington visit - ESPN

Martin close on visit No. 1

It has been a wild year for defensive end Chris Martin, who is playing his senior year at Grandview (Aurora, Colo.). The Notre Dame commit played his first three years at Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland, Calif.) and was planning to play his senior year at The Hun School (Princeton, N.J.) before those plans fell through.

"That was a little too expensive of a move and I have cousins in Aurora," Martin said. "It's going great out here, we're 3-0 and the competition is a lot better than people think. It's actually better than in Oakland. Our league is the real deal and we have a top 25 national team in Mullen on the schedule.

"I'm playing all over the place. On defense, I'm at linebacker and defensive end and I'm even playing some quarterback on offense. We run the spread and the Wildcat and I've scored a few touchdowns. I haven't thrown any yet but hopefully soon. I have about five sacks as well and I'm having a great time out here."

Martin gave an early commitment to Notre Dame and has never wavered on it. Recently however, the athlete has said he would like to take a few official visits and is close to setting up visit No. 1.

"It's not set in stone but I'm looking at visiting Florida (Nov. 27)," Martin said. "That's the only one I've discussed so far but I'm talking with USC, UCLA and Cal as well. I'm still not sure about everything right now, I'm just taking things slow and I'll see what happens."

Martin said taking visits has nothing to do with his commitment to the Irish and he's still very happy with his original decision.

"I just want to see what else is out there because I never really did that," Martin said. "I never had a chance to see any other schools so I just kind of want to take some visits to experience that whole process. I haven't discussed it with Notre Dame so I'm not sure what they think about it but I'm sure they'll be OK with it.

"My commitment is still solid and Notre Dame is definitely where my heart is at right now. This has nothing to do with them at all and I still plan on signing there. I just want to enjoy the process, you only go through this once."

brah it's kinda like proposing to your girl and then going out on dates with other chicks.. I'm sure your girl would be OK with that???? Mr. Martin and others if you commit to a school then stay with your commitment, if not shut your mouth and commit after you visit all the schools.

Doubtful. Ask Omar Hunter how that turned out. Also, I hope this staff has plan B in place with the CHANCE (carter?) that Martin jumps ship.

If you're lookin, we're lookin

yeah, I guess you can see it like that, but I guess it might be like proposing to any girl you don't really know. Then looking around to find the second best fit just in case that one isn't there at the end.

Sorry, but if I'm him I'd do the same thing. He's really committed to CW AND ND. He doesn't want to go to a failing program, and I don't blame him. Not everyone grew up a ND fan like us, where it is easy to pick ND. He chose ND, and things look shaky in the program. He's still committed to us, but he wants to lookaround. Normally, I HATE that. But in this case, in this unique year, I don't blame him. The program could go in many different directions, and he needs to keep his options open in his mind.

The FL visit is really late in the year, which is great for us. If we win, he's ours, and I doubt he makes that trip if we're staring at a BCS game and the media is kissing our asses. But if the program is a mess, which is very plausible given our defensive struggles and injury woes and ref woes, then he should take a visit. No, he's not really committed in the true sense, and yes, I HATE Urban Liar and I am getting flashbacks of Omar Hunter, but still, the kid says he's Irish but he wants to check out other schools. For studs like him, you just have to deal with it.

This is no differenr than what happens at other schools with other recruits. Prater committed to SC, but is taking to OV's still. It happens everywhere. With Martin, wake me up when it's NSD...

Gators making a play for Irish-commit Martin

Defensive end Chris Martin (Aurora, Colo./Grandview), the No. 143 prospect on the ESPNU 150, committed to Notre Dame in February. However, the Florida Gators have not given up on Martin and would be interested in hosting him on an official visit the weekend of Nov. 28 when the Gators play Florida State. Martin is also scheduled to make an official visit to Notre Dame the weekend of Oct. 17 when the Irish play USC. In the end, I see Martin staying with his commitment to the Fighting Irish.

Guys,
Just give him and this a rest. There is NOTHING that can be done about this. All CW can do is keep winning. Go IRISH

It'll be handle in the case of "if your looking, we're looking"

Sadly, Martin has Weis by the balls if he wants to play it that way. We need Martin alot more tahn he needs us. Go ahead give my scholarship to a 3 star recriut from Indiana, I have USC, Florida & OSU knocking on my front door.

Yea, Martin is one of those recruits you always make an exception for.

It isn't often that a player with his talent has the scholastic qualifications to be admitted to ND. We need him A LOT more than he needs us.

Oh no! Don't throw the star power rating at me! We all know these recruiting services get it right everytime and no low star player has play over his potential. What kind friend would Martin be after recruiting his best friend(Moore) to ND and go else where. That's a pretty crappy friend if you ask me. Martin isn't going no where if you ask me. Why would he consider a team(USC) who didn't want him at their raising stars camp.

If we win Martin will stay ND, if we lose, it will be a different story. I am not to fond of the "looking around" option, but come on, these kids are 17, 18 yrs. old, and this is a huge decision for themselves. In the end I think Martin stays true to the Irish.

Martin will be making an official visit to Cal for the USC game, with mom's blessing.

Mom probably wants him to come see her. She loves her son and she has the opportunity for him to come to Cali to see her on somebody else's dime...
