I figured he thought it was ND band. Charlie concurred in the Presser the other day.

Reminded me of a Pennywise show I went to a number of years ago. After much alcohol, my friends convinced me to do a stage dive. I got up on stage, high fived one of the guys in the band and went for it. Now, I go about 6'5" and 230+, so as soon as I left my feet, the crowd parted like the red sea.

Ah, Pennywise. Awful band, awesome Stephen King character.

I think he made the right move. What was he going to do, lower his shoulder into the tuba player?

The main reason I can't stand Pennywise is because they sing that Bro Hymn song and that is the song they play at Ducks games and I hate the mother f-in Ducks! So happy hockey is here already!!!

Can't see it in that video, but I love how he slowly walks out of the band then shakes Kamara's hand lol

does anybody know where I can find the picture of this for my background? I saw that someone had it as their avatar.

I just love how everyone else in cyberspace thinks Golden is a jerk for this, and all of us think it was AWESOME!!! You can google "Golden Tate dives into band" and every single comment at the end of an article or youtube video is negative.

Keep on catching those TD passes G!!! And i support every dive into a band you make! GO IRISH!!!

I had the same reaction you did. His action was viewed as showboating but he did it to avoid trampling the band and to protect himself. His launch expended some of the energy of his run as there was nowhere for him to run. The band was close to the endline and at least the first row is sitting in chairs. Could easily have been some mangled people including Tate.

Agree completely. He's getting some heat for it, but how is this different from when Jeter jumped into the sands at Yankee Stadium a few years back?

It definetly could have been worse! Like someone in this thread said earlier, "What was he supposed to do? Lower his shoulder into the tuba player?" If he hadn't dove like that we would hear the country bitching and saying, "Why does ND have the bands so close to the field!? He should have tried to jump over them and avoid smashing the tuba players head in." Theres just go winning a public relations battle like this when you are ND.

.....so as soon as I left my feet, the crowd parted like the red sea....

that is always hilarious to watch...it seems to happen at least once at every show...

I went to a static x show about a month ago, and I kept telling the ppl I was with that all that stage diving, and getting into pits was for young ppl. Im not that old, but im not young enough to risk getting my teeth knocked out. When your young, its all 'good friendly violent fun',..when your old, getting your teeth knocked out isnt fun, its just expensive. One kid was laid out on the floor for about 5mins. They carted himoff on a paramedic stretcher (coincidentally, he didnt look like he belonged there)

The only people i have heard have beef with his dive are Michael Wilbon (hater) and MSU fans. I was on the Rivals boards and alot of people found it prettty awesome. MSU fans, however, were complaining that he could have hurt someone and that it was unecessary showboating, but irts cool to plant your flag on our 50 yard line

I think going in the way he did was actually safer than if he just barrelled into them at full speed with his helmet and cleats and elbows flailing.

Yeah, that was my one and only time trying it. I guess it is for younguns and for people under 200lbs. In that split second right after I jumped, the look on people's faces was like they were running from a crashing plane. Damn alcohol for giving me liquid courage!

I love the reaction. Golden could have gone low and shattered somebody's knee, ran straight ahead and really hurt somebody, or gone over the top and evenly distributed his weight among several people, thus lowering the chance of seriously injuring somebody.

People are ripping him.

And they still don't consider that Golden thought it was the Notre Dame band.

I've heard the brilliant idea of photoshopping the photo of Golden in midair, putting two ND flags in his outstretched hands. lol
