Who are these people picking Michigan?
From what I have seen from both teams over the last few years and I have to say, Michigan WILL be good once RichRod gets his athletes into place. Right now, he just does not have them.
Michigan getting those athletes will make them, the Big Ten, and Notre Dame better teams because the bowl games will not be the first time any of them face the Spread Offense with great athletes.
This year is about 1 and a half or 2 years before that happens.
Notre Dame by 20.
That's an interesting take .. (the impact on the league thingy that is, not the rosy domer prediction).
I agree with the first part, but I think RR is surprisingly far ahead in putting his kind of talent, conditioning and schemes in place. But you're right that by the 3rd or 4th recruiting class ....
The second part ... good insight but there ARE other teams in the midwest that have been running full time spread schemes for a while ... but you're talking Northwestern, Purdue, et. al. The perception is they use it to overcome lack of recruiting punch/talent .... UM is really the first major program in our area.
Gary Danielson's school of thought is the UM will be the "last major program to go to the spread". As much as I respect that guy, I think he's totally wrong; it's just begun. Most teams are running some version of the spread in their overall package and I think you'll see a lot more of it than less.
Whether or not that makes the Defenses better able to win bowl games ... dunno, but an interresting idea.
