So Nevada is the second toughest team we play? Maybe 2nd best offense, but their defense may be worse that WSU

Some of have been saying there one of the stronger opponents for some time. I think many fans just blow them off because it's not a NAME like USC or OSU.

I think of Nevada as being Navy with more talented athletes but lacking the discipline of Navy players. Both a plus and a minus. But considering the way ND plays Navy a definite threat.

There was another poll out this week ranking teams and ND was #23 and Nevada #24.

We should chew up their defense but we say that same thing every season before the Navy game.

Me too but I think we average more then 26 pts a game against our VERY weak schedule!

So do I, a lot more points than '08 through the air, on the ground, through the uprights, on defense, and on special teams.

Despite the maturing of Clausen, Tate, Floyd, Rudolph, and the OLine which all the writers mention, ND is only forecast to score 2.6 more points per game in '09 than in '08. Walker should make up that difference by himself. IF the running game stayed as poor as last year's this team will still score more points and I think the running game will improve significantly.

Last's years defense actually was the 3rd best in those 9 seasons, a 6.6 point improvement over the previous season. Tyrone's first season was a carryover of Davie's defense and had the lowest ppg, 16.7. ND's secondary is probably better than the '02 team.

On Offense '08 was the 4th best with more than a Touchdown improvement in PPG. I believe the '09 team with this schedule will outperform Weis's best production of 36.7 ppg in '05. If Charlie will keep his foot on the throttle (and the necks of opponents) this team will score better than 40 ppg. In fairness to WhatIfSports.com keep in mind they simulated games between ALL FBS teams and ND achieved the 72% Winning %, 26.3 PPG Scored and 15.4 PPG Allowed - Against the entire FBS slate of teams not against ND's 2009 schedule.

The 26.3 ppg forecast by WhatIfSports.com is probably 2 TD lower than what they will put on the scoreboard. I'd be pleased if we held the opposition to under 20 ppg. ND's only done that twice in the last 9 seasons.

Here's the PPG Scored and Allowed from 2008 back to 2000.

In '08 ND scored 23.7 ppg while allowing 22.2 ppg.
In '07 ND scored 16.4 ppg while allowing 28.8 ppg.
In '06 ND scored 31.0 ppg while allowing 23.8 ppg.
In '05 ND scored 36.7 ppg while allowing 24.5 ppg. (Weis First Year)
In '04 ND scored 24.1 ppg while allowing 24.1 ppg. (Tyrone)
In '03 ND scored 20.3 ppg while allowing 26.3 ppg. (Tyrone)
In '02 ND scored 22.3 ppg while allowing 16.7 ppg. (Tyrone)
In '01 ND scored 19.5 ppg while allowing 19.5 ppg. (Davie Last Year)
In '00 ND scored 29.4 ppg while allowing 22.3 ppg.
