I bought a Blue & Gold magazine this past weekend at my local borders and it has a game by game predictions:
ND- 38 & Nevada- 24
ND- 21 & Michigan- 23
ND- 27 & Michigan State- 20
ND- 34 & Purdue- 17
ND- 33 & Washington- 10
ND- 27 & USC- 31
ND- 28 & BC- 13
ND- 42 & Washington State- 7
ND- 40 & Navy- 20
ND- 23 & Pitt.- 17
ND- 30 & Connecticut- 14
ND- 31 & Stanford- 27

The predictions look acurate to me. If they have to have us losing to a Michigan team I would say we would lose to Michigan State, we should beat Michigan this year. I am optimistic on the USC game and at least they have use close with them and I agree with the Stanford game I think that one will be a close game. What is everyone else's opinion on these scores??

I WANT to be optimistic but I'm not gonna be. Wow big surprise there huh? Not sure if Michigan can beat us. Its possible but I dont think they will. I say we lose to Mich State, Usc, and Pitt. But that last game against stanford is a trap game to me so we COULD lose that too. Overall I say we finish 9-3 or 8-4 and Charlie boy will be fired. Just a guess though.

I think that we beat Pitt this year, McCoy went to the draft right?? ND needs to beat Mich State. It will be interesting to see how Carroll plays with a unexperienced QB this year. I do agree that the Stanford game will be a trap game. I don't think Weis should get fired?? Who is out there to replace him and who would want to come to ND?? Weis needs to stay put.

6-6 will get him fired. Hell I bet 7-5 or maybe even 8-4. No way in hell we lose to Michigan. Because if we do we won't beat them for a very very long time.

My take is going to sound crazy but I think the "o line" is going to be very good and the offense is going to score and score and score, here it is- man this sounds way out there after the last few years- no loses when we go to Stanford, and I too think it is a trap game, cant do scores but everything I've read and my gut tells me our Irish are going to do themselves proud this year, I think we beat SC, and once again we will all know what the deal is right off the top as Nevada is a competitive quality start, honestly that is the game that scares me because its first and the Irish may not have it cranked up yet, " I can hear the train comming".

"o line"

thats the biggest factor for me. If the lines,o and d line plays well then rest of the team should fall into place. as for cw the jury is still out for me. I would like for him to stay and leave on his terms but, show me something!!!

I'm with you Dommerfreak I would really like to see Charlie get it done, I was critical last year but retracted and changed my mind, no matter what happens (I still think it will be good) he has been a stud and worked his @#* off, for his sake I'd like to see him beat SC, my hat is off to the guy and I feel good about this program and what he has done to bring in players, success is very near, the train -man- the train -------------

once again no way he is fired. because there is no way he'll go 6-6, 7-5. 8-4 is a very slight possibility and he wont be fired for that.

hes winning at least 9 games, so im sorry for all you charlie haters, but hes gonna be here for a while.

we arent losing to michigan either.

If we go 8-4 he is gone, and 9-3 maybe depending on the losses. 10-2 is the the minimum this year

id be willing to bet my left arm that he wont be fired this year. and its sad that every year has turned into a "how is weis gonna save his job this time" rather than a "i cant wait to see how we do"

IMO I think that ND is going to play their worst football in the first half of the Nevada game. Then they are gonna wake up and realize HOLY SHIT we got what it takes to kick some ass and take names!

There is no way we loose to scUM. We r gonna go into the big house and silence it.

We have a by week b4 U$C and that gives us 2 weeks to focus on that game! I see us beating them finally!!!

I think that we will all know if this is going to be the year that ND goes on a NC run or if its a mediocre 9-3 team after the first game.

I am not one of those people. I know he is going to get the job done. But if we are 8-4 that is unacceptable

They have a bye week also, so I don't see that as any sort of advantage. I do think we will finally compete with them. A win is possible, but I still think we will be the underdog in this one.

But if we are 8-4 that is unacceptable

Weis himself said that 9-3 is not good enough. And, it's not. I think this team will win 10 games (yes, I have on my rose-colored glasses). But, like you said, IF he is 8-4 or worse, he's a gonner.

I disagree. The only way he keeps his job at 8-4 is if something happens beyond his control. (Clausen and Crist both go down for the season, 2 or 3 key injuries at OL or DL, Losing Tate and Floyd, etc...)

A record of 9-3 or above I would say his job is safe. 8-4 he'll catch a lot of flack, but it's questionable as to whether he would be fired. Anything less than 8-4, I would say he's gone ... either fired or he would resign!

U$C and Mich. St. games concern me the most (losing). Stanford and scUM games are a level of concern below the forementioned because these games are on the road and both schools hate losing to ND so much that they will have a major focus on beating the Irish. Damn, I just hope the Irish don't lose to scUM ... I hate those bastards!!! Muck Fichigan!

I like us as the underdog in this game. I feel like the conditions going into this game are perfect. 2 weeks to prepare, the game is at home, ND is the underdog, U$C is gonna try and be smart by not overlooking us but I think we are gonna suprise them.

I just have a really good feeling. I know its optomistic, but I just think it all works to our advantage.

First of all, I will not be too happy if we come out of the Nevada game and only win by 14. I am not saying we will definitely blow them out, but, if we don't blow them out, I am going to be very skeptical about the rest of the season. We need to send a statement to our fans, our players, and the rest of the country and destroy Nevada. If we only limp to a 14 point ho-hum victory, I am not going to feel too good about the rest of the season.

With that being said, I don't see us losing to Michigan and there is not a chance of us losing to Stanford. No way, no how. Palo Alto will be all Irish fans. It is almost a home game for us every time we play there.

The first game is going to set the tone, in my opinion. If we don't blow them out - and I mean with ease - it is going to be a much longer season than people are predicting and I am in for another season of heavy drinking.

Ummm, something tells me that you will be in for another heavy season of drinking no matter what GoIrish LOL.

Listen, I hope we blow them out as well, but the first game of any season sometimes can be tough in the sense that you are still ironing things out, maybe trying to find your stride, your identity, and many times teams get toooooo amped, to the point that it hurts the team (that hasn't been a problem for ND the last 2 years unfortunately!). And Nevada's offense is tricky. By the 2nd half we should have it down though, and we should be good.

As for 8-4 and CW still having a job...not gonna happen, not with this schedule. Name 4 teams he could lose to, with this veteran talent that we finally have again, that would be acceptable??? USC, and then you maybe can make the argument for Pitt and MSU, and even then that would be debatable. We're loaded, the schedule sets up favorably, and we finally have a team full of veterans backed up by young studs eager to hit the field. As another poster said, the ONLY way CW saves his job after an 8-4 season is if a series of catastrophic injuries happen.

And I'm a HUGE CW supporter. Just saying the truth. This is make or break for him, and he knows it. I think he'll succeed...

Oh SNAP! You don't know me...oh, wait. Yeah you do. Crap! You're right. I guess I am going to drink heavily either way, but it will be for different reasons whether we win or lose.

I agree about the first game of the season being tricky with working out the kinks, but this is a team that we should, for all intents and purposes, blow out of the water. They shouldn't be able to hang with us for more than a quarter or so, theoretically speaking. All I am saying is that if we don't come out and pound them in to submission, I will be a little guarded in my predictions for the remaining 11 games. Our defense might take a bit to get their sea legs under them with the Nevada Offense, but our offense should be able to score virtually at will. Even if our defense give up 24 points, there is no reason our offense shouldn't be able to put up at least twice that. I just think we need to set the tone early in the season.

If we have a replay of the SDSU game last year, I think we will be right back in the same situation. This team more experienced and more talented, but they are more accustomed to losing than they are to winning and we need a big win right out of the gates to establish that positive mindset. Purely my opinion, but I think it will be a mistake for Coach Weis to take his foot off the pedal and cruise to a "sportsmanlike" 14 point victory. Set the tone for the season that we are taking no prisoners and we are going to leave a trail of death and destruction in our wake!!!

CRANK ME UP!!!

I'm right there with Go Irish they should pound Nevada pretty good, not the same for me on score as these first games have a way of leveling the team/talent but in the final results that Sat night the nation should sit up and say uh oh! those kids that took a beating the past few years are men now and Notre Dame is loaded, my great wish for this season besides 10-11 wins is that we "pound the sass" out of the teams that have rubbed our noses in it the last few years, the thing that has intrigued me is how many of the "experts" has said all the things we are saying- even they finish off their predictions with that small shadow of doubt that they are not sure if Notre Dame is as good as they expect them to be, I think they are the genuine article.

If Charlie wins 9 games they will feel out other coaches and depending on who they think will be the next coach will determine if he gets fired, but it wont matter because we will win more than that

....will get him fired....

The FatMan isnt going anywhere, get used to it.

First of all, I will not be too happy if we come out of the Nevada game and only win by 14

38-17, 31-10 or maybe even 34-17....that is what I would like to see from Notre Dame against Nevada. Try not to get caught up in "they have to win by X amount of points...." you will be headed for a fall.

my thought is
Notre Dame should beat Nevada handily; at the end of the game, there should be a noticable difference to EVERYONE watching, that one team is clearly better than the other. Quantifying the win, by attaching a point spread, is only going to get you disappointed. Even with a good win.

Another thing to expect about the Nevada game if it goes as planned. Expect the media to say things such as, "it was nevada...", or "they were supposed to win...", or "no big deal, they havent shown me anything.." expect those comments all SEASON long. Also know that as long as you hear those comments, ND will still be rolling. Those comments will not stop all year, expect it.

Notre Dame will not get an ounce of respect till a BCS win over a good team.

returning talent and cw calling the plays. i like our chances! but another mediocre season and the hammer will drop one way or another. as i said before blowot wins are nice and all but ill settle for the wins. imo at this point we need to beat teams we shoud beat, finish games, and dominate in the trenches.
