I'm sure this guy is great. But ... Do we really need another DE in this class? We have 3 already. I know that there were some who said one of them could grow into a DT, which would be great. But, I'd sure be happier to see some action with DTs as far as recruiting goes.

Good question. As Lueders (240), Martin (240), and Utupo (250) are just entering their senior years they're probably going to arrive at ND at 255 -270. At 6-0 - 6-1, Utupo is the most likely candidate to move inside but depending on their growth and development either of the others could end up inside.

Ian Williams and Paddy Mullen each have 2 years of eligibilty left going into '09 but Hafis Williams, Brandon Newman, Sean Cwynar, and Tyler Stockton have all 4 years left. Ethan Johnson has 3 left.

At DE, KLM has 4 years, Neal and Wade each have 2 and Nwankwo 3. Ethan Johnson could play outside. Nwankwo could also "grow" to the inside.

Looking at the people and eligibility I'd add a DT and another DE. But is there room for Chance if Shembo says, "Yes" or if Moore is viewed as growing into a DE? They both have the potential.

thats what i am sayiing. with Barr Shembo and Carter it is becoming a numbers game. It kind of sounds like Chance might be on the outside!

I raised the question with considering Barr. Whether he comes to ND or not I said some months back that I suspect he'll grow into a LB. In college he could well grow into a DE. IF he wants to stay at RB he needs to start dieting, now.

Think his Chance passed already. Shembo has his spot saved just in case. Utopo could certianly grow into a DT and Barr plays wherever he can make the biggest impact.

Hell... I'd give Barr a scholly even if all of our DE spots are filled.

I would too. Get him on campus and be honest that you'll play him where he earns his spot the quickest.

And then let him earn it at FULLBACK. Kid would be a beast at that spot and give us that weapon - I'm hoping Alldridge is that for the team this year.

I don't think we would take Carter at this stage. Shembo is likely to end up Irish within the next couple of months and that would mean 4 ends.

I don't think the staff pulled the scholly but from reading recruiting sites it sound as if there have truned their attention to other recruits.

I have heard mix reviews on carter that he is not that great of a player

I dont know what to make of him either. Wisconsin pulled their offer from him and with less intrest coming from the ND coaching staff Im starting to think that he might not be as good as advertised

If Shembo commits we are done with Carter. Last spot is being saved for Anthony Barr

I don't think that's true Jason. Shembo is almost a foregone conclusion at this point the way ND recruiting guys are talking (of course, anything can happen). Even buddy Kendall Moore has said as much. If the ND staff was confident he was going to commit, why let Chance visit Friday if they don't have plans for him? This isn't Florida; CW and the fellas don't operate that way.

If Chance wants to commit, that takes up another spot and we're at 15 (if Shembo commits as well), but that leaves 10 more schollies and possibly more w/ a couple EE's. They'll be room for the D-Line commits, as Shembo is a hybrid and you always leave a spot open for a stud like Barr, no matter where you put him.

This will all play out in the end. And with the way Chance's recruitment has panned out, nothing will surprise me; even if he were to commit to ND or anyone else for that matter, I wouldn't feel good about that commitment until NSD...

According to ISD:

Chance does not have a chance with ND now, but things could change later in recruiting as we all know. So perchance there would be a chance later.

From what I read on other boards that Justin Utupo will probably be move to DT.. So that means if Chance commits to ND than they take him.

Article on Rivals concerning his situation. Basically ND will take him if they have room, but it doesn't look likely. Kinda feel for the kid after reading it, i hope he has a monster senior year.

Yeah, me too, I feel bad for the kid. From his quotes, he sounded kinda bummed, almost embarrassed even. He had his chance at an ND scholly, but really wanted to do his homework, and he shot his wad at the same time. He simply isn't a Jeff Luc or a Chris Martin, where a scholly will be waiting for you no matter what. In the eyes of the recruiters, he's a good prospect that didn't jump in when he had the opportunity. You snooze, you lose, unfortunately for him. Now he has to open up his recruitment to new schools, while ND told him they'd be in touch as the season progressed.

Also, it's nice that the coaches were up front with him, unlike other Liars, errrrrrrr, coaches who shall rename nameless...
