Former VP hopeful says she'll work for change from outside government

Palin to resign as Alaska governor - More politics- msnbc.com

Serving as Gov in Alaska does keep you out of the limelight in the Lower 48 unless Letterman cracks a crude joke.

I understand the move if she's running in 2012 considering Hillary, Obama, and Romney started campaigning years before 2008. That said, I don't understand how resigning helps her build political gravitas. One of the principal points against her (forget the wardrobe BS) was her lack of political experience. Her lack of leadership. I had the same concerns about Obama. The difference is he won the election. She still has to contend with the image of a mom that spoke up at a PTA got elected to the Board of Ed., made some splash, got appointed to a bigger position and ended up as Gov in a short time.

I'm guessing she want to take the Huckebee route and have her face on TV every other day. Her "you betcha" was cute and attention getting but not every other day. I suspect she's not running against Obama right now but really running against Huckebee for the conservative block. If the Republican Party gets into another who's "Rightest" battle, like Pat Buchanan did to George Bush the 1st in the primaries. Bush was a popular sitting president. When Buchanan dragged him to the right in the primaries Clinton quietly stepped to the right and said, I'm the only moderate in this campaign. He was no moderate but compared to Buchanan's rhetoric, he appeared to be. Look back at that campaign. Where was Teddy Kennedy? Where was Jesse Jackson? All the vocal liberal poster boys went in the closet for 6 months and kept their mouths shut. In previous campaigns they argued the Democratic nominee wasn't far enough left. Now they had a candidate panning that he was oh my god, a moderate. They didn't complain. They didn't demand their agenda. Bill or the DNC chairman realized you have to get elected first. And if you don't get the moderate vote in the middle you can't win, Liberal or Conservative.

The Republican Party seems to be emulating the election strategy of the Scoop Jackson, Muskie, Dukakis, Kerry Democratic campaigns of running to the extreme side of the Party and ending up on the losing end of The Election that counts.

I think she'd do better demonstrating that she is a solid Gov leading her state through the recovery from Recession rather than being a talking head on Hannity, Meet the Press or whatever show. At least get another year under her belt, take on a visible spot in the Governers Conference. Lead from the front rather than be just another talking head who runs nothing but their mouths.

Don't agree with her decision. Hope there is not more to it. She's either a genius or she's f'd up the Republican party for the next 12 years.

Still.....show me those tats!!! I'm going barracuda diving.

She's not cut out to be president, and that fact that many people think she is, bothers me. I'd hope the GOP has someone better.

Are those really the only options because the GOP is screwed if thats the case.

Coopers the shit. Who's a better Cable news journalist. Hannity? Olberman? cmon.

The sad thing is both get better ratings i believe.

Who would you run out there? She brought life back into the boring old white guy stereotype of the GOP. She was funny and people were able to relate to her. Being a Republican, I was amazed McCain did as well as he did (Well, considering his campaign manager fucked his ENTIRE campaign up). A vast majority of the states that went red was due to Palin. Hopefully, they are taking her to a library and locking her in it for the next three years. Obama's going to have the minority vote again... so unless you run out Palin or MAYBE Bobby Jindal, the GOPs not gonna have a chance.

contrary to libreal belief those monsterous, evil breeding, white men still have the right to call a fact a fact

;)

And we also have the obligation to pay most of the taxes in this country. I never abandoned a wife and children to fend for themselves. Obama's daddy can't say that.

I never understood this "we can relate to (insert candidate)" notion. The guy you can have a beer with, every man President. Personally, i believe the President should not be someone i can have a beer with, or someone who is like one of us, he should be better. He is the leader of the free world. I understand that charm, charisma, and looks are all important factors because this is an image conscience world and the election is a popularity contest to a degree. I do find it insulting that being educated is a put down, or "elititist". I also find it insulting that Palin or Jindal are being considered because they have to compete with Obama for the minority/female vote. You can't just chaneg the face and expect people to vote for the party. You need new ideas, and a gameplan. Stop complaining about what is going wrong, and come up with ideas on how to make it right.

Well you do make up around 70% of the population. Don't know what abandoning families, had to do with my white man comment, but its good to see a real Dad.

If you are in the top 10 percent of wage earners then you are right -- you pay the majority of the taxes; somewhere around 70 percent of all the taxes paid. If not, then you pay no more than those other non-white people most likely. Congratulations on staying married.

Andrew Jackson was considered to be a hick. He won b/c he was popular with the common man. Same with Teddy. Same with Jimmy Carter. I am with you with your belief that the President needs to be an outstanding figure, but look back at high school and every other Presidential election. It is a popularity contest. Obama won the minority vote because he was a minority. He will do it again unless the GOP counters with a minority. Just like in high school... the class prez was a jock b/c he got the jock, cheerleader, pretty boy vote while the nice alternative kid finished second with a hodge podge of support.

Win the popularity contest. Then become President and change things. You gotta be able to share a beer with the guy.

I hope she runs for president. That would be the funniest thing ever. She'd have to appear in more than one debate too. I would watch just to watch her make a fool out of herself. You betcha!
