... He probably doesn't mind the 90+ degree heat the rest of us are complaining about.
He should. The climate he's use to has a rather small variance in temperature range. 90's aren't common where he's from. Maybe half a dozen days a year at 90.

BGIF whose OMAR?
It's a waste of his valuable time having to sort through the flotsam of junkheadfoolery.
junkheadfoolery.
If the kid is an absolute stud, then you play him, period. THE BEST PLAY, no matter their age. That doesn't say anything about the other LB's at all if a superstar comes in and beats them out. Ask USC if they let their freshman play. That's their damn motto: Compete. I think it's worked out OK for them under Poodle Carroll.
Te'o might be a bust, who knows? But if he comes in on the first day and just dominates, then it's NOT a bad sign for the program if he starts; it's a damn great sign that we're finally recruiting difference makers on the defensive side of the ball...
First of he isnt the best LB we have ever landed, he is the highest rated LB. Im not saying that he is gonna be a bust but let the kid play a down first. The people who are busting on Jimmy Clausen are the same people who were saying he was the best QB we ever landed. That is how you set unrealistic expectations. The point i was trying to make is
1) despite all the recruiting class rankings we got alot of really good kids this class, not just Te'o.
2) I wasnt saying that he should not play. I was saying that if he is the starting LB from day one that says more about how bad our LB's are than how good he is.
Could not have said it better myself...
its easier (not saying its easy, just easier) for freshman LB to step in and start, than it is for say a freshman QB, WR, or DB. QB's and WR's have to learn the offense and get timing down and make route changes from what the Defense is giving them, that comes from repetition. LB's have to learn the defensive calls, stay within the defensive philosophy, and knock mother f*ckers out. very similar to what they do in HS. Manti is a special recruit, a natural leader. I played organized football for awhile, and I think I can recoginize a natural leader and with Manti its a no-brainer. Even if his on-the-field play doesnt measure up (which I believe it will) his leadership will be invaluable. every successful team has a great leader.
I EXPECT Manti to be on the field sept 5th, knocking MFr's out.
Omar Hunter who verballed to ND then reneged and went elsewhere leaving ND in the lurch.
One of several 18 year olds we got our hopes up for only to be crushed when they spurned ND for an Urban setting or some other locale other than South Bend.
Quick, somebody hug me, I'm Irish.
Around here he's considered Gallows Humor, for those with a sense of humor, to lighten up down days.
To the poster who hates Penn St mentioning his name is an affront to his quest for acquiring free sports information. It's a waste of his valuable time having to sort through the flotsam of junkheadfoolery.
Nobody is good enough to come to school fresh from High School, practice for a month and earn the starting spot from DAY ONE. Is he good enough to play from day one? he could be. Is he good enough to be the starting LB eventually in his freshman year? definitely seems so. But start from day one? no. That means our LB's arent good enough that even a 1-3 year head start with the playbook cant overcome. USC does play freshman, but name all the freshman who were starters from day one on campus. The only one i can think of is Mike Williams and he played a position that translates to college the easiest. I believe he will play against Nevada, and will probably be the starter by the USC game, but not Day one.

Everson Griffin and Carson Palmer started at USC from Day 1, and that's just off the top of my head.
It can and does happen dude, all over the country. Good programs too, like USuckC and FL. Take a look at Alabama last year. Look at their freshman class, and how many of them not only contributed, but even started, and they were the number 1 team at one point. I think you're wrong on this one Jason. If Te'o starts, that's a great thing for our program, and it will signal to the rest of the country that if you're good enough, you can play for ND as a freshman. That's USC's motto...why do you think they keep stockpiling 5 stars at the same positions (i.e. safety)?
Oh, and when Chris Martin arrives at ND, you can already book it that he'll start his first game as a freshman. Scouts are saying this, not just me. I'd link you to a fantastic article about him, but it's premium. Just trust, the kid is going to be a beast and will change our defense immediately...

I dont trust recruits. 5 stars look great and i want as many as i can, but i take higher stock in classes than individual players. He may look like the baddest MF on film but until he plays atthe D1 level and shows im always skeptical of recruits. What if he pulls a Steve Filer and just cant grasp the playbook? What i like about our roster now, is unlike the last 2 years, we don't have to play freshman. If a freshman does play its because he is just that good.

Here you go with another baseless hyperbole. Then challenge people to name ALL. Do you own homework.
Lots of kids have started across the country on day one as true freshman. I'd try and save you bacon and restrict it to Notre Dame but you didn't do that, you made it all inclusive. I will anyway.
I realize you a little young for some of these guys but hey your and expert on Elvis.
Would you like me to start with the early 70's when the NCAA allowed freshman to play? Are you too young for that period. Before the NCAA was formed young players, freshman were allowed to play in a number of eras. From the 1800's to about early 1900's. Then when young men went off to WWI freshman were allowed to play again. Gipp was a 4 year starter but I don't think he did in his first game on campus. In WII freshman were allowed to play as young men once again went off to WW II. I read last night you read a lot so perhaps you member some of the young players from your reading and just need you memory jogged.
In August of 1994 Lou Holtz announced Ron Powlus as the starting ND QB as a true freshman only weeks on campus. You know the young man Beano said would win two Heismans. Ron got tackled in practice before opening day and his clavicle was broken. Ron had to sit out the season after being named Starting QB in the first Depth Chart of that season. MacDougal became the QB AFTER getting beaten out AND after Powlus was named the Starter. Years later Melvin Dansby commented in BGI ('97) that "Powlus never threw the same after that injury. He was the best QB I'd ever seen before that injury."
"Earn" the starting job was your qualifying word not mine. Powlus earned the job.
In 1997, Joey Getherall started at WR and caught a bunch of balls. I was at the game. He had his black stripe taken off his helmet the first day of preseason camp when he burned ND's fastest CB Allen Rossum.
In '73 Ross Browner was a 4 year starter. As a freshman opening day he blocked a punt for a safety crashing in from DE. He was considered the best ND player in cleats that year - as a freshman! Willie Fry a freshman occupied the other DE. Possibyly the best pair of defensive bookends the Irish have ever had. The old men in the middle, Niehaus and Stock, were sophomores. Another freshman Luther Bradley dominated the ND backfield that year.
Quite a few athletes have pladed from the Start on Special Teams. Young or old if they beat out the others they get to play.

hey wait just a damn minute here...can anyone tell me how in the hell i can put all my favorite teams under my name like all you guys...just something i've been wondering about...
i owe you some reps...it says i have to spread the love first.
... Bastard
Another baseless comment.
My parents were married long before any of their childern were born. I honor their memory despite your slur on them. I may be many things but bastard isn't one of them.
When you have no substance for discussion, raise the ad hominem, right jason?
And you wonder why your friend walks away from your "discussions". (as you noted in the Michael Jackson thread.)

You have to have "Vbucks" to get your favorite team logos. I think I have enough of those myself as to where I may be able to give you some of them to help you out. Donation coming soon.
66 days left until Manti walks out of that tunnel.
I can see it, now. Tom Hammond's amazingly annoying voice saying, "Kaepernick throws...PICKED OFF! Te'o, the freshman, on his first play from scrimmage, still on his feet...TOUCHDOWN!"
I can't wait to see Te'o in blue and gold. I still get the chills when I watch him accept his offer to play at Notre Dame. I think I've watched his 2007 Season Review Highlights half a dozen times. He's probably the best defensive prospect (keyword: prospect), ND has ever had in the entire history of its fine institution.
