How does it take schools so long to find out how fats someone is? i think that would be one of the easiest things to evaluate

I don't know, I can't speak for every D-IA school in the country, but after watching Jonas Gray's tapes I have to say he looked like he ran a 4.5 or 4.6 40x. Still good, but not as fast as someone like Kentucky's Derek Locke or USC's Joe McKnight.

You can't read too much into that stuff. My team plays against Caulton Ray, he is good, but not as good as he should be for that athleticism.

Yeah, I went back and looked at the orinal place I saw the results and it said 4.43, then of course the link you posted reported 4.44. Either way, that's still sub 4.5, and it was the 2nd fastest time at the camp.Plus with an offer list that includes Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida, Tennessee, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan St., Purdue, Illinois, and Cincinnati you know he has to be pretty good.

BTW, Scout has confirmed what Rivals reported the other day. That Jonas does now have an ND offer. So now we just have to wait and see if there's a coaching change at NU.

Scout had him listed with a sub 4.4 40. I knew I had seen it somewhere before. Anyway, he should he decent speed anyway there's not a huge difference between 4.35 and 4.4.

Profile updated.

Here's the link he ran it at Michigan. I thought I mentioned that earlier.

Detroit Country Day running back Jonas Gray wowed those in attendance at Michigan's camp yesterday. Gray ran a 4.44 and a 4.37 in the 40-yard dash, proving that he had the speed-factor. In turn, those results actually led to Gray finally receiving an offer from Michigan at the end of the day.

I'm sure many of you are wondering why Michigan hadn't offered the #1 player in the entire state (per Rivals.com) up until yesterday. The exact reasoning isn't completely concrete, but the general consensus is that coaches weren't sure if Gray would fit into the U-M system. Some of the comparisons he received were saying that he was a Kevin Grady type of player, and that sort of turned some off to him. However, after running those blazing 40-yard dashes yesterday, there's no doubt he's made to be a star.

Now that Gray has an offer from Michigan, the question remains if he'll actually committ to U-M. As of right now, Gray is saying that it's wide open. One of the other main contenders to land Gray will be Michigan State, so the in-state fight over him will be an interesting one to watch. Something to keep in mind from now to whenever Gray makes a decision is the fact that Michigan did wait so long to offer him. We'll have to see if Gray holds that against Michigan, and if so, would it be enough to prevent a committment. On a similar note, some are saying that Gray was offered as more of an athlete rather than a running back. That could also play a major role in his decision.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that he will be Irish in the end. I always wondered why he didn't have an offer, and now that doesn't matter.

From everything that I have read, I would classify him as a "soft verbal" at this point.

When I was looking for the link, I seen something that said he ran the 4.44 first which was incredably fast because the track that he was on was considered slow. So they ran him again to be sure that he was that fast and he posted 4.37 which is the fastest that ANY one has ever ran on that track.
I don't like Michigan but they have had a few fast guys go through their program.

My friend was with him at that camp, they both ran a 4.37, but my friend isn't a rivals.com prospect. He doesn't seem to like Gray, but he also hates Boubacar, because they went to watch him play in a game and he was beat for a 50 or more yard TD easily.

I really like Jonas Gray though, I have since the beginning, I think he'd be a huge addition to this already stellar class. The way things are shaping up right now, we are in the run for a NC in a few years. I keep telling my friends that I'm being patient, 08' should be decent, 09' should be outstanding.

FYI, while Jonas is still listed a solid Nebraska Verbal on his profile page at Rivals, he is no longer listed as one in their commitment list, or in their database under the recruit search. As of this afternoon Scout still had him listed as a NU verbal.

It won't be that fast if he does come to ND, but I think their chances are pretty good right now.

If he does leave Nebraska for good his top four are Notre Dame, Michigan, LSU, and Illinois, with a big gap between the first two and last two.

dont know if anybody else caught this, but rivals has him as decomitted, however he has high interest in Nebraska and ND with no interest in any other schools.

I don't know much about his recruiting so i don't know whether that's accurate (him basically choosing between ND or Nebraska now). Scout still lists him as a Neb commit, and his profile does not even list ND in his schools, let alone with an offer.

Regardles, the fact that he's back on the market after a visit to South Bend is positive. In the words of Jim Carey as Dumb (or was he Dumber?): "So there's a chance!?!"

This guy for some reason reminds me a lot of Jonathan Stewart.

No he won't at least not that fast. You guys need to go back and read the previous page. There are plenty of new updates on it. I reported that he was no longer a NU commit last night and said which schools he was looking at along with some other good stuff. There's also a ton more about him in the members only area.

I have quotes from Jonas

Yep, that's why we changed him from a Nebraska verbal to a offcial offer last night. Although they're not completely out of the picture just yet, and Jonas is supposed to talk to Tom Osbourne later this week.
