I've been watching him for three years, and I saw him play last night. Rivals needs to get off their horse and give the kid a fourth star. We'll see how he does in San Antonio for a week against the cream of the crop, but I'm more concerned with what Frank Verducci is going to make this guy into. Lombard has the size, he's smart and he works his ass off to prove he deserves the accolades he is receiving.
People are talking about him winning Mr. Football in Illinois this year, over guys like Kyle Prater. This would be the equivalent of Orlando Pace winning the Heisman.
He played both offense and defense the entire game last night. They run to his side on the big plays, as they have been doing all year, and he occupied 2-3 blockers when he was at DT. Fremd's running back Evan Wright is getting a ton of accolades for the yards and TDs he has been accumulating all year, and Wright will be the first to tell anyone Lombard is the reason.
There was a play last night where, as a DT, he was double teamed and grabbed the running back on Naperville North with his right arm and slammed him to the ground for no gain. It was one of the most impressive plays I've seen at a high school game in a while.
I don't think he's a five star, I don't think he's a three. A solid four. They gave four stars to Patrick Ward and Michael Schofield last year, and there is no way Lombard isn't as good or better as they were/are.
