Did someone say ... BACON!

I haven't been to a Dairy Queen in years. They used to sell a chicken fried steak burger called the DQ dude. Absolute yums. That's all I would eat from there. Sonic used to sell a similar sandwich. Love the Sonic onion rings and double cheeseburger. Also gotta love the Wendy's double cheeseburger and fries.

Can't say I'm all that crazy about In-N-Out fries, but the burger is pretty good.

Gotta love the Whataburger double cheese burger. I have only seen Whataburgers in Texas though.

Not really a fast food joint, but I've always loved Waffle House despite the people cooking it.

In-N-Out is the best, and it's not even close. For those who don't know what In-N-Out is, it's a burger chain in the western US states. The menu is extremely basic, with the only options being a hamburger or cheeseburger and french fries. No salads, no chicken sandwiches, no hot dogs, no wraps, no bacon, no chili...nothing but classic burgers and french fries. The fries are not packaged frozen fries, they are made from fresh potatoes. They will stack as many burgers as you want for an additional charge (I've seen people eat 6x6's, but the largest I've ever eaten is a 4x4). They come with lettuce, tomatoes and special sauce (which is their thousand island dressing...but it's better than your average thousand island dressing) and the choice of grilled onions and/or pickles. Menu is a classic. They haven't ever had to change it because people go there for one thing and one thing only...burgers and fries (the milkshakes are pretty darn good too).

My second choice is Fatburger. Not sure if they have Fatburgers everywhere, but they are all over California and there is a 24 hour Fatburger on the Vegas strip (if you are ever in Vegas, you have to stop in Fatburger in the middle of the night on your way back to the hotel after a long night of gambling and binge drinking). The menu has a lot more options than In-N-Out (burgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, etc). What stands out about Fatburger to me is the option to order your burger with a fried egg on it. My friend once got me to try it and I've never eaten one without it since.

Damn, now I'm hungry and neither of these are good for my diet.

In & Out is good. Fatburger is awesome, but I gotta say, here in So Cal, I have to go with Tommy's Original hands down. The chili burger is the best. Made fresh. Outta this world.

If I go to a big chain place - Jack in the Box. I am a Sourdough Jack junkie with...wait for it, wait for it...BACON!!!

I'm not a huge fan of Waffle House. They cook the eggs so fast, it seems like they're not even done. There are four Waffle Houses in Tallahassee. Between Whattaburger and Waffle House, the best drunk stop is Whatta.

I actually love how fluffy the eggs are, and I like to watch them yell the orders. They never write anything down. It's a pretty good drunk food as well.

Steak & Shake is up there too with their frisco melts.

Another extraordinary thing about In-n-Out, is that they pride themselves on customer service, and they deliver on that. you can order a burger and have it absolutely anyway you want it; and you can be as detailed as you want to be and they'll do it. You can tell them you want a burger that starts with the bun, then ketchup, then the meat, then lettuce, or Bun, meat, ketchup, or bun lettuce, ketchup, meat....or maybe you want the meat to be rare, or well done. you can be as detailed as you want to be and they will make it exactly how you want it, and you wont have to 'pull up and wait' for a non-standard request.

In-N-Out is truly a throw back to the days when customer service was a priority, like the old service station when 2 or 3 ppl would service a car.

**I had a friend in high school that used to work there, he said some ppl would come in and want the meat to be RAW. Legally, they cant sell RAW meat, so they would throw it on the grill for 2-3 seconds(literally), flip it, let it go for another 2-3 seconds and serve. He also told me that once a sorority ordered a 125x125 burger(known as a 125x, or 125 by) for a party(a big order like that is done in advance). In-N-Out is not your average burger joint.

Also, back in high school, In-N-Out was the spot to hang out to figure out where to go next after the parties got broken up.

I live a block away from an In-N-Out. There are lines around the building from open to close. GoIrish!!! also mentioned Tommy's. That one is a block south from here.

Too bad I'm becoming a vegetarian.

TDHeysus - customer service. What a concept. Remember when that used to happen?

Red Robin or 5 guys owns Culvers. A butterburger is barely better than steak and shake in my opinion. Red Robin burgers aren't cheap, but all you can eat fries are included (which suck anyway). I'm feeling old, so I can complain about mundane things.

2) Tommy's. Best chili burger chain

3) Fatburger. Not quite In-N-Out but still tasty

and gotta give love to Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles. it's a heart attack in a meal, but damn its good

Cali has it...

In and Out by far...

BUT for a naty chain Carl's Jr. has far passed the others since redoing their menu over the past four/five years... their fries are awesome the Western bacon is a classic, the new jalapeno burger is amazing and they have the best shakes I have ever had...

seriously try the banana cream pie shake... I am sure it is as fattening as it sounds but it is the best shake I have ever had EASY...

now I will say this I have been to the mid west version of Carl's Jr...... Hardees.... horrible... same menu, different type of food all together... so if you have Hardees and not Carl's just know it aint the same stuff... not even close

also, there is this Mexican chain starting up in some parts of cali called Baja Taco... WOW... 1.99 you get two LARGE San Diego quality chicken tacos and rice and beans... best deal ever... the rest of thier menu is really good too... hoepfully it takes off... Del Taco and Taco Bell are fine I guess but they aren't Mexican food... we need a REAL Mexican food chain to take off nationally so all those southerners and mid westerners who laugh when SO. Calers when we say Mexican food is incredible can finally see what we have been talking about... good so cal Mexican takes the Pepsi Challenge over Good American BBQ anyday of the week... it's just really hard to find outside of cali I have found...

The burgers at the Hardees around here suck. The breakfast is what keeps them going here.

Our Hardees have all gone out of business. I used to love A&W when I lived near Syracuse, Indiana. Nothing like an ice cold root beer and a coney dog on a hot summer day... As a kid, I always thought the tray would break my dad's window in half. We had quite a large order due to the five siblings I have.

I used to work just down the street from the original Pinks (the one on the corner of Melrose and LaBrea) and I would drive by it on my way home every day. If the line was ever less than 50 people, I would stop and pick up a dog or two. The problem is that the line was RARELY under 50 people long.

And regarding Tito's Taco's, I just went there for the first time in my life a few weeks ago. Tacos were inexpensive and awesome!!!! I can't believe I've never eaten there before. I guess it's because every time I was in the area, I'd go to Johhny's Pastrami next door for the best pastrami sandwiches on the planet.

They have some other great commericals. I linked a few of my favorites below:

This one stars Paris Hilton (whom I do not like, but the commerical is borderline soft porn)...
YouTube - Paris Hilton Carls Jr Burger Ad Extended Directors Cut Banned Commercials

Do you like girls on mechanical bulls eating burgers...
YouTube - Carl's Jr Girl on mechanical bull

Just because you have an avacado, doesn't mean you have guacamole...
YouTube - Carl's Jr. Commercial - "Avocado"

And my new personal favorite...
YouTube - Jack in the Box - Mini Sirloin Burgers

We have no In-and-Outs here. I feel as if I'm missing out.

They are soooooo good...One of the many things I miss from Cali...When I visited last year, I ate there 5 of the 7 days....my friends thought I was crazy! Fries are the best I've had too. Fudruckers is also a classic Cali Joint....They have whatever toppings you want out and you basically create your own burger...How about Ruby's my Cali friends? I know its not fast food but it is one of the best burgers I've ever had...Bonnie Doon's is my fav fast food burgers here in Mishawaka...Good god, I'm hungery again even after a Mother's Day buffet at Houlihans!!!
