Subway Alum PA wrote broke this on another thread, but I think it deserves it's own thread. All kinds of sites are reporting that 2 USC players, 1st rounders Clay Matthews and Brian Cushing, were busted for testing positive for steroids. SHOCKER!!!!!!!

Well, actually, not quite. Let's see, Clay Matthews was a walk-on, wasn't even a starter before this year. Hell, he wasn't even on NFL teams' radars. Suddenly, not only is he starting, he's tearing it up and getting NFL teams' major attention. And then even more shocking, he becomes a sure-fire 1st-rounder, possibly ahead of both Cushing and Malauga!!! Hmmmmm, nothing fishy there.

As for Cushing, wow. He was supposed to be Irish until we fired Ty Golfingham. Injuries his entire career until this past year, where he was suddenly healthy and better than ever. Most people thought it was because he was finally healthy. Now we know otherwise.

Now, I'm not naive enough to think that no ND players have ever taken steroids at ND or in the pros. But there has been a LOT of speculation at USC, and former players AND now current players are getting popped. Pretty on par for the Pete Carroll era. Here's some links:

This just pisses me off. Why would these young guys do this sh!t. It's just stupid. Steroids help you now yes, but they destroy your body later on. You would think that after everything thats happened with baseball kids would stay away from that sh!t. I knew some kids that took them in high school, one of them took my starting QB spot and now he is having all kinds of problems with his body. Something needs to be done, we need to get rid of steroids.

and heroin and cocaine and meth....

These guys wanted to use them and they did. Laws aren't going to stop these guys from not using them. They will got to East Earth to find them if they wanted them bad enough. Until users change their perspective it won't change.

I'm hoping this means the Redskins stay away from them in the draft. I know all 3 USC linebackers are on their radar. I'm still kind of hoping they draft Rey Maualuga, though. Sue me. lol

Who Knows?

Who Knows?

I would advise caution on jumping all over USC for this. People who want to use steroids figure out how to do it and how to get by the testing. Maybe the coaches know, maybe they don't. I highly doubt this is only a problem for USC. All a kid has to do is put the word out and get what they want. It's kind of like blaming parents for everything that kids do. Sometimes you do your best and do everything right and kids just make dumb choices.

You're right to a large degree. Like I said, no way am I naive enough to think ND hasn't had guys on the juice. But with USuckC under Pete Carroll, it goes to a larger problem. And that is that he has very little discipline over the players in his program, off the field. And I'm not just saying it as a ND fan. Look at the police blotter the last 6 years under Carroll. There's been some major crimes (including drug possession with the intent to sell, rape, theft and assault) committed by his players. And the person I know inside USC athletics, who LOVES usc and works there, says that Pete doesn't have discipline off the field either. This person talks about how these guys are always missing class, getting in trouble for one thing or another, etc.

Yeah, steroids are a national problem, not a USC problem, but I honestly think Carroll would sweep it under the rug even if he did know that an important guy like a Cushing or a Williams was on the juice. WOuldn't put it past him at all. And I think he's a helluva coach. But he wants to win. Hell, go to google images and you'll see a before and after shot of Brian Cushing. You'll be like, DAMN! The dude is HUGE!!! No way do you not notice that if you're a coach. Just like the managers and the GM's and Bud Selig didn't see any unnatural changes in the baseball players either right?

I always wondered if the years in which ND players looked lethargic, slow, and weak compared to the U$Cs of the world was due in part to steroids/HGH. Recruiting will close the gap, but I have a feeling if steroids are used at ND, they aren't on the scale that USC etc are.

Percy Harvin also "reportedly" tested positive for marijuana.

There is no doubt in my mind Poodle Pete will sweep it under the rug. He pouted like a baby and blew off Mark Sanchez when Mark decide to enter the draft. Now they say Mark is a top 10 draft pick and Pete comes out and says he blew him off, only push Mark to being a better person!!" Who's he fooling!!

has this been reported by any of the big media outlets? I havent seen this on anything like foxsports, espn, or any other large media organization. I'm just wondering if these reports have any validity. I have seen quite a few articles today about this(and the percy harvin thing), but I havent seen this on any large media outlets yet.

(assuming these reports are true)
I was a little surprised by them testing positive; I didnt think they were THAT stupid. Possibly, this is the first time these players are outside of the USC umbrella, and USC is not there to cover for them. Possibly, they were so used to having no regard for any consequences, they just assumed it was going to be covered up.

As stated earlier in this thread, im sure that Pete the Cheat will have some explaination for this.

(on a side-note, both of these players were in on the 'White-Nation' facebook page fiasco, the one that Pete the Cheat said was a non-issue.)

You're right. I almost posted a follow up about having a bad culture at a school. That is definitely in the realm of the coach. My main point was just that it could be really easy for any kid to do this without a coach's say so. I'm just saying "Hold your fire" until more details come out, if they come out. I do agree that if some guy gets beefed up it has to produce a "hmm" from anyone. However, if they are doing everything right and passing tests etc., what can you do about it? That being said, it is fun to bust on USC.

Funny, I didn't think Brian Bosworth was USC's strength and conditioning coach. HA.

But seriously, I'm not surprised.

Does anybody remember last season, when one of USC's starting corners (Wright, I believe) was arrested the night before the Ohio State game and was somehow playing the next day?

From the LA Times:

"To commerate their comrades who have fallen from grace and into shame by these positive steroid tests, USC dbags wore four polos today, 'popping' each as a sign of support, good will, cheatery, and douchbaggery. Pete Carrol, reportedly, wore a fifth as a tribute to the four NCAA inspectors who will give nothing more than a slap on the wrist in exchange for a bag full of money with a dollar sign on it, a new car, and fifteen minutes alone in a hotel room with six USC song girls. These will be recorded for re-sale."

lol... sounds like a Bill Plaschke work to me... although you didn't mention SC being greater than the 85 Bears or how Obama is second coming... then ONLY then would it be a legit Bill Plaschke/ LA Times piece.....
