I think this makes good sense...both programs, once elite, fell on hard times, now both on the rise. I think this can be a good thing; and it gets the UCONN's, and Nevada's off our schedule. ND needs to upgrade the schedule to be taken seriously on a national lvl. This is sign of progress.

I was a waiter for a long time. One of the things that happens as a waiter is that you overhear some of the best conversation. Most of it is just ridiculous, but seriously entertaining. I waited on a number of Miami players and parents/coaches a couple of years ago when they came up here to play in the MPC Bowl. That was one of the funniest conversations EVAH. I think most of the players were special teams guys and bench guys. I know one of them was the place kicker. Best part of the conversation was one freshman, I believe just because he was kind of doofus, said, "We'll win this bowl game and then re-load. Next year... National Championship." The rest of the table looked at him like he was on crack. One guy responded, "We're not even close."

I think it is a good idea, I have no problem with Notre Dame opening up with Nevada either. How many times have we seen ND open against a team that has already played a "tune up" game. I think it helps, I remember there was a time when Miami was a blip on the schedule, like playing AF. Check out the schedules of the supposed contenders for the National Title. I have not done so yet and I may be making myself look foolish. But, I am willing to bet that most face a lightweight to open the schedule. I will check and get back to you.

10 out of 15 seem to start with what should only be a tune up game. USC & Ohio State, play the 2nd week Notre Dame & Michigan also play the 2nd week. But some of the teams seem to have 2 tune up games. I hope ND vs. Nevada turns out to be a tune up game. Remember Michigan and Appalachian State?
