I would have to say my moment was '93. Beating Florida State. I remember that game so vividly. I only wish it was broadcast in HD, damn technology.

I would say my favorite player to watch and the best player probably isn't the same but I say Rocket.

Being there

Being there

In 2006 I went to the Stanford game at Notre Dame with a very good friend of mine. We drove 10 hours for Kansas City Mo without tickets. We got there and the campus was everything I had dreamed of. Out front of the stadium we bought face value tickets from a student. The seats were in the second row behind the band in corner of the end zone. It was a great experience and it was nice to watch Brady and the boyz win.

The greatest player I remember watching was probably Bettis, although Rocket and Quinn get an honorable mention.

My favorite player to watch and the guy that will in two years I believe be the greatest player I have watched is Jimmy. I really believe in him and I remember the confidence in his eyes in his first series against GT. He reminds me of the greatest player in ND history to play QB, Joe Montana. Give him time and I believe he is the most accurate passer in the NCAA.

For me...

Sitting in the student section, November 23rd, 1996 - Notre Dame vs. Rutgers, the LAST home game in the "old" stadium, before rennovations began; I was a junior so my seats began approaching the 50-yard line, which made it all the better.

Of course, the game itself was unbelievable - we won, 62-0, put an ass-whoppin' on them.
But the most memorable part, for me, was after the game - Lou came out onto the field, there was a big post-game ceremony since it was the last game in which we would see the stadium as it was when Rockne was there. Lou's words, of course, were tear-jerking, a gentle rain fell, but no one left the building that day until the band had exited the field. It was just awesome...

As for my player - I have to say Brady Quinn - something about that kid that I just love, he represents what the University is supposed to be about, carried himself with class and dignity, and was flat out an unbelievable QB for the Irish. I hope he has huge success with Cleveland next year - or, they trade him to the Jets so I can get to sim him play!!

that would be mine too... that or the complete domination we dropped on USC for a decade plus during the same era

wel seeing as how im 22 years old i think my favorite notre dame memory would be the first one i can vividly remember. you know how it is... youve watched all your life with your grandpa or something, but you just cant remember far enough back. hell otherwise i would say the 1988 national championship.

anyway i was probably 15 when it happened. truth be told i cant remember who we were playing and i cant find any clips of it online. the was courtney watson (playing lb/cb position like harrison smith). the opposing quarterback threw a bubble screen pass to the sidelines and courtney watson was the first to get in to make the play. but instead of tackling the receiver he simply stole (not stripped, just took it) the ball from his arms and ran down the sidelines with it until he was dragged down. i just remember thinking "who does that." you either strip or you tackle, no one steals the ball.

i dont know if anyone else remembers this but back me up if you do. i feel like im crazy when i ask my buddies if they remember it.

my favorite player would have to be a combination of samardzija, stovall, mcknight, carlson, fasano, darius walker, and brady quinn that i affectionately call sastomccarlsanowalquinn. for real though. my favorite player is probably john carlson. anytime brady quinn threw to that guy i knew something awesome was going to happen. and it usually did. he had the best hands of any of our receivers and was pretty fast for his size. along with that he just represented notre dame like brady quinn did. he looked the part. i felt so bad for him his last year. that must have been horrible to be him and just block most of the time because you were also one of the best linemen. but he never complained cuz it was the team above him. thats a good player.

hey I came to ND during the cath. vs. convict game of 88... the one AFTER the national title that is... where UM beat us on that 4th and foreveer play... so I can't claim being a fan during the magic 87/ 88 title team either... in fact I believe a lot of regs here can't

Best ND moment for me was getting togther with two roommates at the same time in Farley Hall after an SYR.

What's that? It was supposed to be best "football" moment? Oh crap...my bad. I'll have to get back to you on that one. It is either '92 Penn State or '93 Florida State. Or as ACamp said, any of the SC games during our "Decade of Dominance".

Favorite player would either be Rocket or Zorich.

Favorite game? Any game I have ever watched without spilling Cracker Jacks (gift inside). Recent memory - ND vs. UCLA couple years ago.(Quinn to Smard...) I was so pissed early on into the game that I walked away from TV and started cleaning house. Actually washed dishes while I peeked at TV every play from a distance. Climbed into bed and turned small TV on and peeked at every play while I tried to Zen myself to calmness.

Jumped the fuck out of bed when ND scored. But acted as if I'd been there before.

Favorite player? So many. Zorro. Rocket. Bettis...

Definitely the Catholics vs. Convicts in '88! Toss-up after that ... the '93 beating of cry baby Bowden's F$U team, the Penn St. game in the snow where Rick Meier's pass into the end zone for the winning 2-pt. conversion. and lastly the game where Reggie Ho's 4 FG's against scUM (Irish win 19-17). Favorite players were Rick Meier, Tim Brown and Raghib "Rocket" Ismail.

The Moment I can probably remember best was when I was 13 My Grandparents took me to my first ND game. It was Navy at Notre Dame that is the game Ron Powlus Broke his arm. The part of it I remembered best was When Tom Krug came in for Powlus and threw a Bomb to Derrick Mayes for a touchdown. I remember it was about 7 degrees that day and I think the wind chill was something like 12 below.

Not a big deal at all but it was a big deal for me since it was my first vistit to South Bend.

Favorite Player.... Smarzdjia

What he fails to mention is that it was with HIS roommates. Um, name one thing good that came out of Farley.

The last game against Tennessee. That was me and my wifes first and only live game watching the Irish. I had endzone seats in Neyland Stadium and watched Eric Ainge get put out right in front of me and The Irish came away with a win.

Favorite Player.... I would have to say Rocky Boiman on Defense/Golden on Offense

Zing! "Ouch," he says as he tugs on collar!

I don't want to name names, but back in the early 90's (back in my day) there were a few hotties in Farley. My girlfriend at the time and her roommate were pretty hot, if I do say so myself.

Damn, I am going to feel the sting of that one for a while! Good one!

I agree, My favorite all time ND moment is in 1993, beating the Charlie ward-led FSU team. Kevin McDougal made it happen that year.
Another moment is the 1992 Gator Bowl, when Jerome Bettis willed ND to win that game.
Another moment, Rick Mirer's, Jermoe Bettis' last home game against Penn State in the snow. Senior day at ND, and they drive the length of the field for a TD and 2pt conversion for the win. Exhilirating....

1987 Michigan State @ Notre Dame. It was the first time I had stepped foot on campus. My aunt took me to the game and we got on campus and all I remember was seeing the Golden Dome. It was special and even at 11 years old I got teary eyed. (Funny thing was....I used to root for Michigan) But ever since that day I have been hooked. I will never forget that moment. It was special. Especially when the Golden Dome was lit up at night.

P.S. Tim Brown ran back 2 punt returns for touchdowns.

Actually playing a hockey game on the same sheet of ice as the Irish. Awesome. Oh... and when I was like 12... I got a drunk coed to give me a peck in front of all my teammates. Equally awesome.

Greatest moment for me comes to down to 2:

1. The first game I ever saw and the first time I ever stepped on campus was the Purdue game in 2002. Notre Dame won on a interception return for a touchdown by Vontez Duff. Not a bad first game to go to.

2. Charlie Weis' first game as HC. Being from western pa and growing up an irish fan, I wanted nothing more then for the Irish to beat Pitt at home and shut up Mark May who predicted the Irish to start 0-7 under Charlie Weis. Needless to say they delivered and gave Mark May a huge plate of crow, and humiliated Wannstedt that day.

Greatest player for me has to be Brady Quinn. I loved watching him throw the football. He had fun while he was out there and delivered us the most excitement we got to watch in a while. If he would have had any kind of defense I believe he'd have won the Heisman for sure.

1.Moment for me had to be the pass out of the end zone which sealed the win in the Sugar bowl against 'Bama. What a call by Ara!
2. Another would be anytime I am fortunate enough to get up to South Bend and attend a game in person.

Not sure if we are talking about the same play (I'm kinda sleepy and need a quick nap right now...), but if we are, that is possibly the most incredible decision and play call in the friggen history of college football.

my favorite play was against Miami, when pat terrell tipped the pass in the corner of the end zone. IMHO one of the top 10 plays in Irish history.
