is teo only going to be able to play for a year because of the mission?

Manti will play for a year go on his mission (2 years) then return to Notre Dame as a sophmore.

He will actually graduate with the clas of 2013 or 2014 if he does not go pro's sooner

i heard his mission may be either 1 year or two year, but HawaiinIrish is exactly right.

There is a chance he won`t go on a mission at all, I think he just wanted the option.
I think that if he starts from day 1, like I expect, and plays to his talent, he will be a freshmen all-American and will not go on his mission.

article on Te'o

Te'o had Note Dame on the brain for last few days - Independents and Others - ESPN

"I'm up for the challenge," Te'o said. "I've always been someone to blaze my own trail. I think it's going to be a great opportunity, a great experience, and a learning experience as well. I'm excited."

Te'o said although he plans to spend four years at Notre Dame, he would take his two-year mission after his freshman year with the Irish. He said it is something he's already discussed with the coaches and something that was emphasized by he and his parents during the recruiting process. It was Weis' support of Te'o's mission that helped Te'o make his final decision.

"The coaches support that and I'm happy that they do support my decision to do that," Te'o said. "I am going to do my mission after my freshman year. That is the plan as of right now."

What is the word on Toma (Manti's best friend)? Last I heard he was a UCLA verbal, but, even more recently, word is that he's going wherever Manti is.

he has NOT faxed his LOI to UCLA and might come to ND...that's the word so far.

not just a top recruit, but addresses a glaring weakness after losing LB's to graduation. Te'o is tailor-made for ND, a take charge, hard hitting, MLB that exudes leadership skills on the field - exactly what the ND defense has been lacking. not to mention, Tyler Stockton, and Zeke Motta. D-line, LB's, and DB's have all picked up nice recruits. Its definitely a good day to be Irish!

Did I hear him correctly, I thought I heard him say Brian Polian flew to Hawaii once a week to see him? For those that complain about CW coaching, he sure as hell don't fuck around when it comes to recruiting. That is fucking great!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know what I loved about his press conference. Unlike these other teenagers with their families (and entourage in some cases) all around them who pick one hat, then throw it down, then put another hat on only to say it doesn't fit before finally picking his school, Te'o calmly thanked everyone and then put on the ND hat. Done and done. The other crap that these guys pull is soooo classless, cheesy and played out. I don't like it even when ND guys do it. I swear, I wasn't mad at Byron Moore for choosing the school where he'll spend the next 4-5 years (it's his choice and not everyone can love ND), but it pissed me off when he picked up the ND hat only to toss it behind him. I screamed and then felt like an idiot. Te'o showed what a class kid he was by not antagonizing the other schools' fanbases and coaches. Love the kid already...

HI you were a great contributor to this site thank you for everything

Hey Marine, he's not dying, quit talking about him in the past tense!!! LOL

FlyingHawaiian, you're on the clock for the other Hawaiian LB (Fehoko - sp???) that ND offered for next year's class. Bring him home to SB and they'll probably make you a moderator here!

Hey, I was thinking yesterday, this is the second time in about a month and a half the state of Hawaii has helped Charlie keep his job. When he first started at ND, he always talked about retiring to some tropical location after his contract is up (assuming he survives it). Perhaps he should consider the Aloha State....

I'm not trying to scare anybody and I don't want to read into this too much, but...at charlies press conference he said that the night before NSD Manti called Polian to iron out some details on the letter of intent. He specifically asked questions about transfer eligibility. I can understand that being some fine print of consideration but it seems a little odd. Almost as if he is worried he might make a bad decision and consider going somewhere else after his mission.

Now go ahead and rant on my comments. Just an observation.

actually he was talking about the revocking of the scholorship. If he was to leave ND or any other school could take away the scholly. ND would not if it is for his mission.
