USC doesn't stand for ethics and morals? And you know enough about the institution to make such a strong claim, how?

I love Notre Dame, and feel fortunate this board exists, but a lot of comments here -- sometimes -- makes a lot of ND fans come off as ignorant zealots.

Ignorant zealouts? Do you attend USC? Are you a graduate? You must be, to be saying all that junk.

I'll qualify my remark. USC FOOTBALL does not stand for morals and ethics, and the administartion strongly supports what they do, so yes, USC is not exactly a beacon for morals and values. You know how I know? Because I work across the street from USC. I know many of the students. I know what goes on at the frat parties. I know a person who works in the athletic department. My nephews both went to Mater Dei with Matt Leinart, and have partied, and yes, smoked pot, with Leinart (my nephews are a bit of a dissapointment in the family, but I digress). Do I need to go on? I could tell you some crazy, crazy stories about how those dudes, since Carroll took over and they started winning, run things at that school.

There's also a lot of good that comes out of USC, good that I've benefitted from. But make no mistake, USC football does NOT stand for ethics and values. So think about what you say before you go off calling people names, making yourself look ignorant...

Rivals has USC and UCLA listed as high and ND just as Medium on his list of schools. I still think we are a long shot and UCLA is the favorite after all the news lately of his buddies going to UCLA!

Teo is going to be Irish. Doesn't want a big-city school, from all I've read. CW's effort in recruiting him has been exceptional, and in a little over a week, that effort will pay off. JMHO.

Thanks for updating me, but I'm well aware where we are at with these guys. I am just saying to be in the running this late for some of the most special kids in the country.

My bad, I guess I just misread this ...
"Wow thats great news.....man with Moore, Starling, Buchanan still out there as well as jelani and manti.....we are looking like we could really have something special brewing."

... as you believing we actually had a chance with Buchanan and Jenkins. If we get one of the remaining three of Teo, Moore or Starling, I'll be stoked. If we get more than one, I'll go out of my mind. But, as much as I hate it, the ones that are gone are gone.

I hate 2 jinx us but I think we lead...who knows. I heard UCLA is making a hard push too...Wherever he goes, he'll play as a frosh, go on a 2 year mission, come back and play at least 2 more years..

Te'o narrows college choices to three | HonoluluAdvertiser.com | The Honolulu Advertiser

Te'o, who plans to serve a two-year LDS mission after his freshman season, said he was confident he could maintain his church ties at the other three schools. He said the chances of him going to any of them are "pretty equal."

"I'm just going to take my time and think everything through," he said.

Oh shit... I'm feeling a little better about this one.

Does he have to come back after the missions or can he go pro? I am imagining him coming to ND next year and starting!!! Only to leave for two years and maybe come back then play for one more year. Also, can we use his scholarship while he is on missions? I would love to have this kid and the mission thing is great just seems like a lot a fuss over a guy that might only be here a year maybe two?

Good questions. First off, he can, if he chooses, play his freshman year, go on a 2 year mission, and then go off to the NFL. His h.s. class will have been out of school for 3 years, so he would be eligible for the NFL. But that has a very, very little chance of happening. Taking 2 years off, no matter how much of a stud you are, is no way to prepare for the NFL.

If he did leave (he said he MIGHT go on a mission, but yeah, it sounds like he will), he'd come back for at least one more year of college ball. And it might be 2 more years, you never know. Look at the BYU roster. It's littered with guys who are 24-25 years old, and some of them who end up being pro. Now, from reading everything we have about Manti, he's much more talented than those guys, but it's not inconceivable that he plays 3 years for the Irish.

As for all this fuss over a guy who only plays 2 years, well, it's deserved if he's that big of a stud. Just ask Pitt if Larry Fitzgerald was worth it. He only played 2 years, but he was unreal for them. Same thing with Michael Crabtree. These special type of players elevate their teammates and their team to new heights. If Te'o is that good, and from all indications he is, than hell yes he's worth the fuss.

My #2 team is UCLA (grew up on UCLA hoops), but I admit it will hurt badly if he doesn't choose ND. But if he chooses UCLA over USC, then it will definitely lessen the blow knowing that he won't be going to USC and instead he'll be going to their rival. And I'll still be able to see him every Saturday...

Just to prove how smart the rivals guys are and how reliable many recruiting sites are, 3 out of 4 rivals "experts" predicted Teo ending up at BYU. the other was USC.

Wow, I'm shocked he eliminated BYU. Here in Utah everyone thought it would be a two school race (USC and BYU). I would like to point out that just because he commits to a school before his misssion doesn't mean that's the school he will attend at the end of his misssion. The often injured Washington QB olsen had committed to BYU before his mission. It would be awesome if he does pick ND but alot can happen during those two years.

Wow Champen, put the pen down and step away from your computer, and start following golf or something. That's the worst analysis I've seen here since GD93 (see, GD93 was, oh well, never mind). Seriously, Mark May just called to say you were being negative, that's how bad that is. You think every single analyst out there, and every single scout, and 3 of the top recruiters in that nation (Carroll, CW, Nueheisel, and every other coach he rejected) are wrong, and YOU are right? Sorry, I'll defer to the experts here.

But I don't think it's far-feteched to think he'll be at USC. Personally, and I know only what I read, I think he's UCLA first, then ND a VERY close 2nd, then USC. He said he doesn't want to be too comfortable, and a Catholic school all the way in the midwest, thousands of miles from his island, is pretty damn challenging. I can see him trying to expand the scope of the nation's view of Hawaii, and what better place than Notre Dame? In the end, I don't think USC fits his value system, and I'm hoping UCLA having his friends and teammates there will make it 'too comfotable' as well. ND offers everything he wants (except for a winning program--yet, as well as the opportunity to expand his horizons in a way that the other schools can't quite offer...

Notre Dame is doing an in-home visit with Te'o this week. the Irish will send multiple coaches to Hawaii to make the final pitch. the assumption is that Polian and Brown will be going, but not sure of the date.

I personally don't think he ends up a Domer, but ND is closer than I thought they would get to him and they still have a decent shot.
