He looks pretty good. Has great speed at the high school level, just have to wait to see how it equates to the college level but overall, the vids of him look promising.

The name is Jelani Jenkins this kid hits like a ton of bricks the #2 rated LB in the country if you haven't seen him check him out at Jelani Jenkins Highlight Video Video in Jelani's Videos on Takkle - High School Sports I really hope this kid comes to ND and not Boston College

He looks like a nice player...but man that is so hard to judge looking at game film at the HS level. The only thing I can tell is that he's pretty aggressive and decisive, and he has a closing gear the other guys on the field don't...someone above said its hard to judge how that translates to college...I agree.

Thanks for the post...I do love this stuff...

my concern would be how he takes on blockers. he seems like a very nice player in space as he has some pretty decent speed but i really didnt see too much of him having to take on any blockers. at about 1:34 he did take on a block but kind of toyed with the guy and let himself get moved back about 2 yards. that bothered me a little as he appeared to be a far better athlete than the kid blocking him.

he also tended to drop back from his lb position on almost every play, which on that level he was able to make up for with his speed but on the next level he will have to understand the keys to rush or pass much earlier. either that or that is a habit of his which could be a big problem.

You seem to know your stuff my friend, but another thought is that it could depend on the defensive scheme and how he is coached to play the position. I don't like the way he tackles, but he seems to make "sure" tackles on the few plays we saw.

He is definitely one hell of a running back and uses his blockers well. Very versatile athlete no doubt.

By the way, first thing that caught my attention to this thread was the title

I'm not banking on landing him. I think we have a better shot with Teo and I don't think we land him either.

My buddy at Good Counsel says Jelani really likes Florida but many have him favoring PSU right now

Personally I see Manti going to BYU or USC. How could anyone turn down USC?

okay

okay

the question about this kids speed he runs a 4.5 forty and his skills can be refined at the college level if the coach is right his top three schools right now are Florida, ND, Penn State he has a 4.0 and is a catholic if we don't land this kid it's because CW let a great talent slip right through his hands could you think if this kid and Manti Te'o where on the field together at the same time.

absolutely nuetered he definitely has some skills, but may have some weaknesses as well. its tough to judge anyone from highlight reels, i actually tend to look for any negatives i can find due to the highlight reel being put together by the players people. they tend not to show when they miss assignments or screw things up :)

i surely wouldnt complain to have someone with speed and a nasty attitude to hit someone on this team! that is exactly what this program needs is more players with speed and attitude feeling like they need to take someones head off every single play!!!!

Like I said, you know your stuff. From the highlights we saw, I tend to like his offensive play better.
