This one hurts. Bad. Real bad. There's no words.

I've been in a baaaaaaddd mood all f***ing day.

I voted no, only because there's pretty much no one else who wants to come here. But I'm done. I won't argue w/ anyone anymore who wants Weis fired. How can I defend him anymore?

Still gonna stick by my Irish for life, but I am NOT looking forward to the USC game in my backyard. Hell, I'm not looking forward to work on Monday. I'm gonna hear it...

Im so tired of this bullshit. Charlie Weis has not won with his recruits! He won with Brady Quinn, Walker, Samardjia... all of Willingham's guys. Where the hell is all the talent he supposedly is raking in?

The talent is there, Charlie just can't figure out how to develop it!
I think his ego gets in the way. A kid comes out of college already developed for the pros by good college coaches. Charlie didn't have to develop them.
BUT.........
Charlie gets kids out of high school who need to be coached up and developed. ND does have the talent, but I think we need to clean house because the whole staff seems to stink. Why? Because the team looks lethargic, ho-hum, with no winning attitude, no nastiness. They appear to be going through the motions and waiting for the season to end. Maybe they don't want to play for CW. The problem is, "Who do you hire if you fire Charlie?"

I am very disappointed as we all are.

Hopefully recruits don't walk away or decommit after this debacle.

I've been on the fence most of the year, siding more with the Charlie needs to prove himself more this year, not the wait until next year crowd. Some people here have been calling him out from Game1 this season, kudos to you. Yet some people remained blind to the facts, and to those people I say to you today, welcome back to reality.

I think Charlie needs to go...

He is not reaching the kids, the team has NO heart and I don't remeber the last time the team was booed at home.

I live in South Bend and the rumor that Charlies buyout on his contract is 8 figures... thats a lot for the university to eat... I think we maybe stuck with him. And if thats the case at least get the guy a box of tissues for the sideline.

Anyone have a bad feeling about Nevada next year? Just a knee-jerk reaction, but I think certainly the game with the most pressure on a Notre Dame team since, I dunno...FSU in '93?

At least we handled that pressure. It was BC that killed us.

Agreed. But there was no pressure headed into that game.. FSU probably not a great analogy, but if Charlie is back in '09 I don't know if he can get this team back if they lose that first game. The weight of the world will be on his shoulders.

Assuming Charlie comes back next year, which I think will happen like it or not, he has to win 10 games and win a BCS bowl game. Anything less at this point is unsatisfactory. Honestly, I don't think he can do it. But, I'm rooting for him.

If a change is made this year, it better be a good one. If we hire another unproven coach we get what we deserve.

Ah, Charlie and ND. It's the end of the road, if you will. And Charlie just can't let go. They still love each other, but it's time for a break-up. It's going to be messy, but ND football will be better for it. Swarbrick, I highly recommend a little Usher when you feel bad about sending Charlie back to the NFL: "Let it burn."

Could be a combination of all three.

It can't be all 3.... It all comes down to the coaching.. If the players are down.. It's the coaches job to get them BACK UP!!! ND plays with no intensity!!!!! They sit out there with their thumbs up their asses.. and that my fellow domers is all the coaches fault!!!

If there is any students or fans out there that thought throwing snowballs at the players would be funny..... you're pathetic and kill yourselves...

I voted no for only this reason:

I don't want ND to settle for just anyone.

I want a coach that has a proven track record. A coach who knows how to motivate a team. A coach who can develop players and will hire the best assistants out there.

We've already had to settle for "just a coach". We need someone with experience, drive, and the ability to motivate not only a team, but the fans and alumni.

guys that's what I said last week when some of our members started defending weis and the direction of the program is what bothers me most our performances are disgraceful win or lose our attitude sucks we have no toughness this is the head coache's responsibility so we need to make a move before the whole program becomes poisoned.

there is much validity in regards to who could we get to replace weis,at this point I dont really know who could fit the bill or better yet who would want to and it's killing me.

Nevada has one of the top rushing attacks in college football. With this present coaching staff in place, I'd say we are in for a long afternoon

I was thinking the same thing, after seeing them keep it close with Boise yesterday, and also with Tech earlier in the season, i'm pretty sure that if Charlie stays we will lose to Nevada next year. HE NEEDS TO GO.

I wouldn't be so harsh. Weis hasn't misrepresented ND at all. He took in a lot of BCS money and has brought in great recruits. He's also been good with his off the field ventures. We're all passionate about football, but there is more to being a human being than winning football games.

Thats like saying all these Bank CEOs have been great outside the boardrooms, because as you know there is more to being human than letting your company fail.

He was hired to win football games. THAT IS HIS JOB.

I think you and I should go to a bar next Saturday at around 10am and start doing shots. With any luck, we will pass out and not wake up until the '09 Spring game!

This year hurts worse than last year because we definitely have too much talent to lose, not only to Syracuse, but also to Pitt, BC, NC and even Mich. State. CW isn't getting it done, and if anything he has given ample evidence that he does not have what it takes to motivate a team to win. He's a smart guy -- even he should have come to that conclusion by now. It's a sign of great arrogance for him to think he is the answer even after he has clearly demonstrated he is not. I will repeat what I wrote in an earlier post -- if CW truly loves Notre Dame, he would admit his shortcomings, that he isn't the man for the job, and step down so this talent rich team can move forward to where they belong. I've defended CW for the last time.

we should just fire everyone and keep hiring people till we find a fit. Its a great way to build a program.

part of the problem appears to be that the people in charge (i.e. AD, BOT, and Jenkins/Malloy) don't appear to be qualified to make football coaching hires effectively. Our last 4 hires: Davie, O'Leary, Willingham, Weis. I have no trust that these people will be able to make the best choice in whether to retain Weis and if they do get rid of him...i have no faith that he will be replaced with the best candidate possible.

Okay yesterday i was super pissed off, still am a little today, but there is no easy answer, and i think socal or wave said it before, we are stuck between a rock and a hard place. I voted no on firing charlie because there is no easy answer, i doubt we could get urban. I think charlie should get one more year, with his best class being juniors, before we throw him out the door. I know i know, i changed my position, but my emotions were getting the best of me yesterday. Charlie should get one more year, and even if he doesnt produce, the players that we need to win are set up and coaches will want an dbe interested in the job. Just IMO. Think it over.

Perhaps, just perhaps........it appears that way to you because they, unlike many of us, have not forgotten that ND is first and foremost a hallowed place of higher learning. A great part of the ND mystique is it's continued success, without becoming a "football factory". Guys like Alan Page are the reason for the ND mystique. Maybe alot of the johnny-come-lately fans are unaware of the academic and social tradtions of ND. They perhaps became ND fans simply because ND was a winning program, and everyone likes to follow a winner. So, for them, I offer up the following link, so they might educate themselves on what truly makes ND special:

20,000 season tickets at $1,000 a piece = $20,000,000. With the 'rights fees' that I pay for my season tix, I can tell you that a grand is a low figure. So for one season, let's hold off on the imminent upgrade to the rock hard bleachers we have been sitting on for years and use the cash to buyout that contract.

I don't watch NBC on Saturdays to applaud the student body's academic endeavors. As far as mystique goes....we're 88-61 since 1996. I guess that it's easy to build mystique now days, eh?
