Wtf?!?!?!
we already ran a play... the officials were terrible but it went both plays...
by the rule book ALONE we get another play...
Well, it was a fumble. But even if not, I'm not sure we hike the ball and spike it with any time left.
It all is moot though, because we never should have gotten the ball on that BOGUS reversal on the NC 1st down. That was a catch by anyone's measure. I'm interested in what the replay booth ref will say when questioned about that reversal.
yea, as i mentioned in another thread, the rule clearly states that posession must be maintained through the catch, it wasnt.....right call
I think Floyd's shoulders were down before he tried to pitch it. When his shoulders hit, there were 4 seconds left on the clock. They had time to spike it. They should have gotten another play. Oh well, can't change it now. The team just needs to look at what they did right and wrong and try to do what they can to improve themselves.
Bro, did you watch the game on radio? Floyd made a great catch and then rolled over his tackler never touching the ground. He didn't pich crap. You can see the ball moving upward before it came lose on its own. He might have pushed the ball after he lost control, but it wasn't a pitch on purpose.

Whatever the case, the ball was quickly spotted by the refs, and ND spiked the ball. ND should have had one more play.
Incorrect. He caught the ball. He tucked the ball. Then he hit the ground. The ground caused the fumble which AS THE RULE BOOK CLEARLY STATES, the ground cannot cause a fumble. Refs on the field had it right. Even if it were close, which it wasn't, calls on the field aren't supposed to be overturned unless there is conclusive evidence. There couldn't be conclusive evidence, because it was a FU**ING catch.
Sometimes I wonder if some of you people even watch football other than Notre Dame games.
I thought it was pretty clear he tried to lateral it as time was running out.

You're the same guy who started the thread "Jimmy Clausen, King of the Chuck it up and Pray" after the MSU game. And I and many others argued how good the guy already was and how good he's going to be. So before you go throwing stones, I think you should look in the mirror. Don't talk about other people not watching football, when you were the one to call out a QB that has been ON FIRE since you prematurely called him out. Sometimes I wonder if you watch football at all.
As for the NC fans (and alleged ND fans) bitching about the reversal, ummm, I've been taught all my life as a receiver to hold on to the ball. He dropped it. Be an athlete and make the play. I mean, your guy drops the ball, ground or not, and you bitch about the reversal? Catch the damn ball, and hold onto it.
Seriously?? I sometimes wonder if some of you people know anything about football at all. But just for your FU**CKING reference I will post the rule directly from the NCAA rule book.
XI. Airborne receiver A85 possesses the ball and in the process of going
to the ground, first contacts the ground with his left foot as he falls to
the ground inbounds. Immediately upon hitting the ground, the ball
comes loose and touches the ground. RULING: Incomplete pass.
An airborne receiver must maintain control of the ball if going to the
ground in the process of completing a catch.
Now please tell me how that is different from what happened? Also your right it wasn't close and the ACC replay officials got it right. Please stop getting all your football knowledge from 30 second mic blips from announcers.
First of all, it was a BIG EAST official in the booth, NOT an ACC official
Secondly, he was not in the process of making a catch. HE MADE THE CATCH. Then as he turned and fell, the ball was fumbled. However, the ground cannot cause a fumble, so the ball is dead.
Lastly, don't go to law school. You miss details. You miss them in an egregious manner.
I watched the replay at least 10 times. The ball came loose on its own. You can see it sliding upwards out of his hands.
Here is what I saw, on the replays of the Floyd catch and fumble: I don't think anyone argues that it was not a catch. It looked to me like Floyd was attempting to transfer the ball from one hand to the other, on the way down, and the ball got loose. It also looked like he reached quickly to grab for the ball, but ended up just punching it backwards. I saw nothing that looked like a pitch. ... Turnovers killed us, but the Tarheel defense sure didn't.

Almost exactly how I saw it. I just think the NC defenders made a good play that forced him to try his best to hold on the ball.
But why did they review the play after another play had been run?
